You two seem quite knowledgeable about the PS3. Do you have any reason to believe that Sony would market a new version of PS3 in the close future? Do you think the price will be significantly lowered some day?
I understand if you have no certain answers, but it bothers me that the price of the PS3 and the long wait for FFXIII is preventing me from buying it. Meh, then again the real thing I'm waiting for is too obvious.

If there's gonna be an FF7 remake sometime this generation of games, it probably will be multiplatform.
I also expect the ps3 to get a price drop sometime mid year, and they always seem to be releasing new models.

Actually, Im not so sure about the FF7 remake. I think if they make one, Sony would swallow their pride and pay for exclusivity. It would sell at least a million consoles itself. If they didnt, then it would be multiplat. It truly depends.
On the price cut. Id say March/April. Killzone 2 is released at the end of February, so I think they will see how many PS3's they can sell with it's momentum, then when that dies down, Id expect a 50-100 price cut. If they are smart, a 100 dollar price cut.
EDIT: Plus you have Versus XIII to look forward to as well. The PS3 does have some awesome games on it too that you cant get anywhere else. If you like RPG's, I say look into Valkyria Chronicles. Im on chapter 13 and it's been great the whole time.

Let's be honest, I would love to get this system, but finances and possible language issues (area issues, too, if they exist for the PS3) prevent that at this time.
If I could get the system to be able to play North American area games in English (or any language track I choose, if this is an option with this system), despite being put out in Japan, that would be one obsticle down.
The second obsticle is money. I just don't have it right now. I would love to buy this set; I love Final Fantasy VII and would love to have something special from the series other than the movies and the games, but without the dough there is no go.

I am, I am a Gold Member with Square-Enix. They allowed me to go ahead and reserve it. Only thing is If you do decide to buy this, you will have to know it won't play Region 1 DVD's (English) Only JP, but as for Bluray, it'll play all and you can set the language to English. PS3's are versatile.
I feel poor though...But I got the full package

Well I'm not getting a PS3 to play DVDs so I'm not too saddened by it.
In fact, that's actually good because now I can buy Japanese anime dvds and play them
Just wish the PS3 was backwards compatible with PS2 games. Maybe once Sony is done and closes the PS2 market for good, they can release some firmware update for the PS3 to play PS2 games for good...

FYI, I wasn't even thinking of or referring to FFVII.
I was talking about my PS2 games and being able to play them on my PS3, only. Which...FFVII isn't apart of.

Newer PS3's lack Backplay. Sony has announced it won't create anymore PS3's with Backward ability, or so they say on the Sony PS3 Forums. >< I QQ'd for a while.

Probably because you have one of the earlier PS3 models that have backwards compatibility for both PS1 and 2.
They removed the b/c for PS2 in later models.
