Or they don’t, because fate can’t dictate them anymore where they belong. :mon:

I know, I know, rather unrealistic wishful thinking. But a girl can dream.

I even thought of a concept for a fanfiction, or how they could possibly make it so that Zack meets everyone in the other timeline without causing a paradox. But it isn’t thought out well yet. Just an idea.

I even dream about this shit.

Even though it appears she’s gotten rid of these thoughts, she gives off the image of considerable grief that the Zack from those days is now gone. —Aerith’s Profile, Final Fantasy 7 Ultimania Omega, pg. 29

Never heard that one, that's basically the nail in the coffin of any argument saying she's over Zack, basically outright states that even if you think something makes it look like that, it's not true.

Nomura also supports Zerith! Here are some of his interviews about Crisis Core.

(From Dengeki Maou, October Issue 2007) Will you be portraying the relationship between Zack and Aerith in detail in CC?
Nomura: They do have a lot of conversations together. Whenever something comes up Zack heads straight to the church, as if he's looking to be healed. It's a brutal story, but Zack and Aerith's conversations are somewhat heart-warming and offer a bit of respite. I hope people will look forward to watching their scenes together.

(from Fanmitsu Vol. 972) - You've also revealed some scenes with Zack and Aerith. But to people who know what the future holds for them, they must be quite sad to watch.
Nomura: There are a lot of scenes that explore what kind of relationship they had. If you take note of Zack's changing hairstyle--I think you'll have realized this, but Zack meets Aerith when he's still 2nd Class, so it's safe to say he spent a long time with her.

Meanwhile, Nojima...
"Q: Some parts we didn’t imagine from Aerith’s saying of “he’s my first love” in FF7 are depicted in Crisis Core.
Nojima: The setting that “falling from the roof of the Church” repeats Aerith’s encounter with Cloud was decided in the beginning. Though we’re talking about love, they are still young back then and there’s no time to describe “how they become fond of each other” in the game. So I made it like “falling into a sudden crush.”
~Crisis Core Ultimania, the interview, Page 579
This is the same Nojima who said "they're young, wouldn't he just hug her?" for Cloti in FF7R lol

The thing is not only does Cloud fail to be Aerith's bodyguard(by attacking/almost killing her, albeit under Seph's control), Aerith also comes to realize this near the end of her life. So if we are to accept the romantic Disney framing of their "deal" then ultimately Aerith rejects it, after realizing Cloud isn't actually her bodyguard. He's actually a threat to her life. In other words, Cloud isn't the hero she's looking for.

Zack is!

I never really thought of it that way. Is that one of the reasons why Aerith left on her own in the Ancient Forest? She realized that noone can "protect her". I always thought it was just her sense of duty as Cetra, that she alone is the only one who can stop Sephiroth.

Well that quote was partly in response to Clerith shippers who make the bodyguard deal out to be romantic. If we are to accept that framing, then Cloud failed as her bodyguard when he became a threat to her.

Back to what you said, Aerith never wanted to "do it alone" until Seph started controlling Cloud and using him to attack her. It wasn't that she realized that "she was the only one that could stop Seph." It's that once Seph got the black materia, she realized she was running out of time, and Cloud would only hold her back if not outright eliminate her.

From what I understand, Seph can't control Zack, so this wouldn't be a problem with him around.

I have a sinking feeling that these parts are going to be left out of the Remake. I don't see SE allowing that to happen. Especially the way the world is today.

I don't understand. Please elaborate.

I miss quoted you. Sorry. What I was trying to convey was that in the Remake, I don't think SE is going to have Cloud beat the living crap out of Aerith the way he did in the OG. Even if he was being mind controlled. ( The reasons are because of the atmosphere in 2020. It is no longer the late 90's with Bill Clinton. If you get what I mean)

Yah, you're probably right, but they wouldn't need to go that far. All they would have to do is show that Seph can control Cloud, and show Cloud taking a swing for Aerith with his sword.

That said, I'm not entirely sure Seph wants Aerith dead this time around.

I really REALLY want them to put the scene in though, honestly, I think that's one of the strongest scenes in the game, and I do think they need to go that far, people just need to suck it up, sometimes people are punched.
But yeah, I am also afraid they're gonna dial it down, since Tseng didn't even punch her at the pillar, just did a strange hand movement that I didn't understand for the life of me.

Ah, come on guys, poor Aerith. She doesn't deserve to be beat up like that.

Would you want harm to be done to a face like that?

No, of course not, but IMO the censorship in the Remake actively diminished the quality of the product. Biggs and Jessie should have been covered in blood at the pillar. Seph's sword should have been covered in blood when it went through Shinra and Barret. Zack should have been covered in blood at the end. The complete lack of blood in this game was very distracting.

This, a thousand times this, it's stuff like this that makes me hate age ratings and censorship from the bottom of my heart.

It is all good I guess. As long as we can still get same quality of story out of it. I am not too worried. Don't get me wrong I am against any type of censorship but there could be others that are sensitive to those types of storytelling.

I guess what SE thinks as Teen content has changed since the OG. They left the cross dressing in, but they took out all the blood from when Sephiroth killed almost everyone in the Shira HQ, including the sword in the back of President Shinra. That was all removed. Both games are rated for Teen. So, I am surprised that what they considered Teen back than has changed to what is considered Teen in 2020.

Anyways, I didn't want to bring the thread too far of topic.

So, with the fact that Zack is presumed to be alive, do you guys think that he will try and search out Aerith? When they crossed paths at the end of the game it seemed like they can sense each other's presence. (maybe I am looking into it too deep, but this reminded me of the anime' "Your Name.". I guess because I just watched it this past week, and it kinda feels like the same ordeal).

I am pretty sure that Aerith would be absolutely delighted to have her long MIA boyfriend back beside her again. That would definitely be interesting thing to look forward too. Finally Zack X Aerith will get their vindication after all these years of being the unpopular ship.

Of course he would, but the question is will he find her in Midgar, or did she just leave for Kalm with Cloud, Tifa, etc.? In other words, do they exist in the same timeline, or two different ones? Are there two Aeriths now?

In my head, the moment Zack enters Midgar, he‘ll be in the „normal“ timeline. Or rather, I imagine it as follows: Zack first goes to the church with Cloud, he lies him down there, along with his Buster sword. Aerith is nowhere to be found. He goes out to look for her and when he doesn’t find her, he goes to her mum and asks about her whereabouts. The mother then tells him what’s happened in the OG/Remake. Zack is devastated that Aerith has been captured and wonders what to do (he can’t possibly go to Shinra with Cloud on his shoulder). When he gets back to the church, Cloud and his sword are gone. And that‘s when he realizes, something is wrong...

Maybe I’ll write a fanfic going along that idea. ^_^

I don't think Elmyra likes Zack very much. I'd imagine the first thing Zack would do is get in touch with someone like Cissnei, while hesitantly trying to find Aerith.

Well, we still don't know if there are two Aerith's running around yet.

Perhaps, Aerith in his timeline hasn't started down the course of events of the OG path. When Cloud and Zack arrive in Midgar, both alive it makes the story of his timeline branch off into a different outcome.

I am pretty sure the first thing Zack will do is seek Aerith out. They have been separated for a while.

Eventually Cloud and Zack both get into the "mercenary for hire" business like Zack had planned out in the first place. Cloud then through his mercenary work, bumps into TIfa in Sector 7 and that time line finally converges with the one that has already been fleshed out in the Remake.

Honestly such a convoluted way of telling a story...

Zack would search Aerith first. The travels he did from Banora to Midgar, according to CC timeline, just happened in a few days right after he read her letter..... compared to his whole journey over Gaia for 9 months. Means, he rushed in and really wanted to meet her.
