How does Cloud's sword stay on his back?

Basically, what the thread title says. I've heard there's a magnet in his shirt, but I don't know how official that is or if any official explanation has ever been given. Anyone know?

Originally the two slots on the Buster Sword were conceived as holes to fasten onto Cloud’s back. It’s funny how it metamorphosed into the Materia slots we see today, simply because gamers wrongly connected the dots (no pun intended) back in the day.
