(This is the first time I've joined a forum in a very long time, bear with me!)

I just spent the last five minutes trying to think up a witty, Final Fantasy related topic title. Evidently I failed. Newbie here! (So-rry.)

So anyway. I'm from London (UK), I'm a university student (I really ought to be studying right now), but more importantly I am a Final Fantasy nerd and aspire to be an even better one. You can call me Monterosa. :)

I've been popping onto The Lifestream every so often for a number of years for the superb Final Fantasy resources and translations on the main page. Seriously, I'd love to thank the contributors of all the fantastic content you've got here!

However I never considered joining the forums until yesterday when I happened to hear about the FFVII race going on between Flintlock and Prince Lex. I only intended to make my visit brief, but I was really drawn into the excitement of the race and the fun conversation in the simultaneous chat. Now here I am, finally a forum member. :)

Talk about a Final Fantasy VIII race was the final push to make me join. Although I do love FFVII, my expertise (or at least the bulk of my FF knowledge) lies in FFVIII. My long term goal is to translate the FFVIII Ultimania, although that really would be a number of years off as I'd have to learn to read Japanese first. Fortunately I know Chinese so at least I have a heard start, hehe. FFVII fans have been blessed (and burdened - all those translations!) with an enormous amount of canonical information from Square over the years. Unfortunately FFVIII has had much less development. But I'm sure there's so much under the surface that fans outside Japan don't know about.

Well, one can dream. ^_^

Next month or sometime after I would be so up for a FFVIII race, in the same vein as the race we saw this weekend. Please do let me know if you'd like the challenge too!

Now I'm off for a mosey round these here forums, see what I can find to procrastinate better.

You're-going-to-like-me! You're-going-to-like-me! Did it work?

It worked! はじめまして。
Nice to meet you, and welcome to the forums. That race was quite something, wasn't it? I would never have imagined it would turn out to be so exciting (although I missed the final boss, and somehow, just as with football, the replay isn't nearly as thrilling as watching it live).
Also I like your icon.

Hullo hullo, glad to have you with us :)

You're at least the second new member on the forum who joined because of the race, which makes me very happy. It shows how important community events like that can be. We should do more! I'd love to see an FFVIII race, though I wouldn't feel able to participate in it myself for a couple of reasons, namely an insufficiently thorough knowledge of the game (I've completed it twice and am currently 3/4 of the way through a third game) and a desire to spectate rather than participate in one :) As I already mentioned in the VII race thread, I'd be more than willing to help you set it all up, if you find a challenger. It took me a long time to find one for VII, even though it's a much more popular game here, so it could be difficult. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you though.

はじめまして。:) 認識你很開心!

The race was definitely like you said, exciting to watch but (I'm guessing) not quite the same once it's over. But that's the nature of such joyful events!

I like my icon too. ^_^ It's cropped from a larger image by the Japanese pixel artist Syosa. Once I have made five posts I'll link you to it. Heh

Thanks for the kind welcome. :)

Holy shit. Is your real name Tom by any chance?

I was waiting for this. Well, it was fun while it lasted!

I guess I shall r-e-v-e-a-l myself now. Though I liked being anonymous and genderless, once you're outed that's it! My name is indeed Tom, and I am Flintlock's real life younger brother. I saw that he'd posted about the race on his Facebook page so I came to check it out. Initially I hadn't intended to keep my identity hidden from him but it just happened that way. I was enjoying waiting for him to figure it out. Hehe. ^_^

What if my name weren't Tom? Your post would have been very alarming for the person in question!

As for the avatar, I do believe I qualify to post links now, hurrah! Here is the full image from which I cropped my avatar, and this is the artist Syosa's blog.

Hahaha... you bastard! :D

This thread gave me a hunch. Then I went back through my IRC log to see what you'd been written there. I found half a dozen pieces of evidence to suggest it was you. If, somehow, it hadn't been, I would have said "you should meet my brother, you'd get along really well"! I might have figured it out during the race but I was otherwise busy.

This is hilarious. You really made my day. What's next, I wonder? Maybe Kuroto is going to reveal herself to be my girlfriend

Ehehe, I'm glad you found it funny too. ^_^ I was pretty concerned you'd think it was me yesterday in the chat when I spoke about thinking the Channel Tunnel was like the tunnel to the Underwater Reactor as a child. I'd forgotten that we had shared that dream! (Well, the dream lives on in my head :P)

Maybe the whole forum is made up of our clan? What if Fangu is really Dad?! We're all being duped! (Sorry Fangu - thanks for the welcome! ^^)

Thank you. Pardon my ignorance and bluntness, but is "Welcome an' shit" with the Muppets emoticon a TLS custom I should know about? A cultural reference?

The cookie monster is TLS's mascot, for raisins that have since been obscured by the mists of time (someone else probably knows why) It's probably the most used emote on this site because it makes everything lighthearted. 'Welcome an' shit' would seem rather blunt without it :monster:

Anyway welcome! I already liked you because of your 'cat in a cape with a Jacobean ruff' avatar, and now to find you share genetic material with Flint is the icing on the cake! :awesome:

You ruined my plan! No one's going to believe me now... :(

We make our own cultural references / memes / customs, so yes :monster:. One of those include using the cookie monster smilie a lot :monster:. Stay a while, you'll get it :monster:.

The cookie monster makes me smile. I like it!

And I love that we have an Ultros emoticon too. Hehe.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!

The "Welcome an' shit" is just a phrase Tyrion Lannister and I have used for years, because we're probably too lazy to say anything else. :monster:

And, the Cookie Monster is one of the greatest and most infamous emoticons on the internet. You should use it as much as you can, for Great Justice. :monster:
