I just wondered how everyone feels about Genesis is more than likely returning to the game. There are multiple references to him or CC. Kunsel being mentioned and Hojo wanting to breed Aerith with either S and G cells. I know I complained a lot about the ending and was picky about it and taken my time to get over the shock of the direction they have taken and while I don’t personally see why they had to change it so much, I am very intrigued to how it will wrap up. However the one thing I truly didn’t want adding into the remake was Genesis but from the references it seems he will be appearing at some point. And I wondered how everyone else felt about that?

I doubt we’ll see Genesis directly in the present since he’s supposed to be in self-imposed hibernation right now, timeline-wise. I’d guess we’ll see more references and Easter eggs mentioning him.

If what you’re worried about is him appearing in the Nibelheim flashback, I doubt we’ll see him since Cloud’s recollection of it is supposed to faulty and Crisis Core’s addition of him during the Incident was deliberately done so his scene appears after all the OG reactor scenes finished, so it’s an easy “add-on” scene that can be “forgotten“ by Cloud.

Glad I'm not the only one who dearly misses the train man. NPCs in general took a big hit in the remake if I'm being real. Overhearing conversations just isn't the same.

As for ol' Gackt, I'd love to never see him again, but with how the remake is, who knows.

Ok, joking aside, Theozilla hit the nail on the head. Genesis is in a hibernating state and is out of the way storyline-wise right now. There could be references here and there about Genesis, but I don't expect anything major. Unless Square Enix decides to go crazy with part 2, Genesis isn't anything to be afraid of. lol

It would be simple enough to alter his appearance slightly, though. Not for CC or Dirge, obviously, but for something new. He doesn't have to look just like Gackt. He can still be a generic bishounen, just with a different nose/chin/forehead/some combination of the three.

Genesis returning in the remake is a running joke on the Discord server. It may well happen...I wouldn't be surprised, especially considering how the end of P1 seems to leave things open.

For all we know, their contract demands that Gackt has to be tied to the character or he has right of first refusal etc. Who knows.

I have no idea. I've tried looking for clues about the business agreement between Gackt and SE and have come out empty handed. Genesis did appear in Pictlogica: Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy Record Keeper. Gackt voiced a character in another Square Enix game later... So, from what I've seen, it doesn't look like he would object to Genesis appearing in another game. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The only time I can see Genesis being talked about extensively is if Kunsel would make an appearance and would try to make Cloud remember stuff from the past. Cloud would have known Angeal and Genesis because they're Sephiroth's contemporaries. Cloud would also have heard about thr mass-desertion in SOLDIER.

Those are things Cloud and Kunsel would have known. But neither were there when Genesis waltzed around in Nibelheim. Cloud's memory of the incident is a mixture of half remembered and narrated memories he pieced together as his own. Unless Zack told him, there was no way he could have known, therefore, no way Genesis will appear in a flashback (or any) scene.

I love his concept but dislike the execution of his character. Gackt actually did a decent job as Genesis, but the english VA didn't do him any favors.

That said, given the natural inclination of Shinra's scientists to human experimentation, it's only right that the Jenova experiment would have other subjects other than Sephy himself.

He also personally met Angeal when him and Tseng got their asses kicked by him when they were trying to capture Hollander in Modeoheim. And had been fighting the Genesis clones for two years on various missions just like Zack.

Sure, but clearly the intention was that he didn't.
Genesis copies also launched a full-scale invasion of Junon, but still it's stated that his existence was completely scrubbed. So

Is he in hibernation though? I read SE said the compilation timeline has nothing to do with the remake. They could use things as they please. Since most fans dislike him, I'd rather he not be added in as a current character, but he could be used in flashbacks of Sephiroth's past.
