Joss Whedon seems ready to do more Firefly if anyone calls him

I am still in love with Firefly, and pretty much anything Joss Whedon does. I don't think it'll happen, but when I die, I want to go somewhere where Firefly was never cancelled.

Man, at this point I'm ready to expend the effort to spearhead a fan campaign to get this to happen. If there is a very public and loud campaign to bring back Firefly, some network is bound to recognise there is lots of profit involved and get on the freaking ball. Too bad I don't have even the remotest idea how to organise one of these things.

There's been an extremely vocal fan campaign for years. They're called Browncoats.

Yeah, that's true, but as far as I know no one's done a kickstarter campaign or anything like that. Maybe that's the push the series needs to come back from the dead. Especially now that Arrested Development has provided a precedent for unjustly prematurely terminated Fox shows to come back from the dead.

At any rate, we really needed a Firefly thread.

I can't believe it's been ten years. Adam just turned 50. Summer is now the same age as Nathan when the show aired.

This and BSG are p. much my favourite sci-fi shows of the last ten years. This is objectively way better than BSG, though. I like BSG in spite of its flaws. I'd be hard-pressed to identify flaws in Firefly.

Of shows I've seen through to the end, only Star Trek: TNG comes close.

(That said, there are shows I've been desperately neglecting. I've seen a few episodes of Farscape, which is excellent so far, and I need to see Babylon 5).

But yeah, a more engaging cast of characters on television I'd be hard-pressed to find, and it's really terrible that Whedon didn't get to put them through all the character development he had planned for them.

Yeah, Joss Whedon's been saying for years that he'd love it if Firefly was continued. Nathan Fillion has said that he'd buy the rights to Firefly if he could and produce the show himself if he could.

I wish it would happen. Then Ben Edlund could come back and produce it and it would be perfect. Joss Whedon + Ben Edlund + Nathan Fillion = braingasm.

I think it's terrible that he's had total bad luck in TV ever since Firefly. I've watched every one of his shows, and they've all been miles better than anything else at the time. The only show that actually ran it's full intended series without being cancelled was Buffy.

I didn't like Firefly as much as I thought I would. It's just a shame it didn't get another season since it ended just as I was beginning to get attached :sadpanda:

that said can we get a Freaks and Geeks reunion instead.

This is great timing really since we know that Netflix, in an effort to start producing their own original content, is looking at picking up popular yet cancelled television shows with an eye to producing new episodes.

They’re already doing it with Arrested Development which, incidentally was cancelled around the same time as Firefly and at the time got about the same ratings. If they can do it with AD why not Firefly? Everyone involved is ready to go. Where are you Netflix? Pick up the phone and call Joss Whedon.

Grrr. Argh.

On a serious note: Firefly is done. How would they ever explain Serenity? I don't want a continuation of Serenity. For obvious reasons I will not spoil.

Continue it by ignoring "Serenity." Or by
bringing Wash back from the dead. :monster: "Firefly" without him would be like "Buffy" without Xander. This is the Whedonverse, after all -- death can be reversed as easily as it's applied.

Yess. You need an Earth Pony (the one without neither wings nor horn) in every story. Also, in Buffy, you needed a Cordelia; I guess Jayne was the Cordelia of Firefly.

Plus, Shepherd Book. I was DYING to know his backstory. Now I'll never know :( :( :(

There was a Firefly comic called ‘better days’ set between season 1 & Serenity.
It told the story of
how Book left because he felt he was being corrupted by the gang heists etc and how Inara left. Bascially setting up Serenity.

You could easily set a couple of seasons before Serenity.
Fans wouldn’t mind if the whole crew looked a little older. :P

Time for favourite episode discussions, i'll open with Our Mrs. Reynolds:

It was time to let go back in 2006. That hasn't stopped anyone. :P

Favorite episodes:

1) Serenity. Wish Joss had been allowed to tell the whole story like that.
2) Out of Gas. Beautifully told episode. I like to pretend the show (and franchise) ended here.
3) Jaynestown (needs no introduction)
4) Objects in Space. River finally gets to be a character instead of a plot device; best villain yet introduced.
5) War Stories. Best conversation in the series and masterfully resolved a glaring relationship question between the characters.
6) Our Mrs. Reynolds: Christina Hendricks and the "special" hell; Inara swallows Mal's face. Also a deleted scene confirming what we all knew about River and Simon.

Nitpick: Better Days was a story about the crew getting rich. I think Those Left Behind is the one that sets up Serenity.

I like the numerous nods to Firefly in Castle. Especially that
halloween episode where he dresses like a "space cowboy" and his daughter says "dad that was like 6 years ago, don't you think it's time to let it go?" and he says "Never!!"
