So I take you didn't like Batman Begins then?

Why would you say that?

Why wouldn't I like one of the few Batman films that has been as close to the source material without being a complete ripoff?

No worries. Just having a little joke. Considering your name, it would be surprising to hear you say you hated the new Batman. Would be ironic, to say the least. lol

I do hate his voice and Nolan's retarded inclination to stick to what he calls "reality".

Granted, remakes and adaptations can actually be good if handled properly. The Departed/Dawn of the Dead/3:10 to Yuma/The Crazies are some examples that succeed imo. But that's just a handful from a majority of fail.

but what with the change of setting/characters to a bunch of white guys in New York, mediocre action movie director, dumbing down of the plot... the PG-13 rating is really just icing on the cake.

In fact, I won't be surprised if it turns out not to different from this:

I think if they made a full-length parody of an americanised Akira, it'd rake in more money than the original and the hollywood remake combined.

Yes.

So, does mutating semi-Jesi fall under PG-13?

Does rape when done off-screen, accompanied by saxophone music, fall under PG-13?

Wait, why is this topic about a possible PG-13 rating and not about a real life adaptation? :monster:. I'd really rather want to see a proper anime version of the manga, full-length, full-detail. With color though.

Apparently Australian censors struggled (but succeeded) in giving the Karate Kid remake a PG-rating. If that movie has more violence than this Akira ends up having (not that I'll be watching it), I'll have to laugh.

While I do expect this to suck, there's nothing inherently wrong with relocating the setting to the U.S. Why?

Because an atmosphere of economic uncertainty, alienated youth, and public distrust toward a beauracratic mess of a government are more fundamental to both the fictional setting and the real-world society's context than atomic bomb imagery.

As long as bungling tools aren't in charge, a remake of "Akira" set in the U.S. has plenty of potential relevance to an American audience.

Oh, Tres. You really think Hollywood is thinking this out as sophisticatedly as you are? If they were, they wouldn't be bothering with piggybacking on a twenty year old movie in the first place. They'd be doing original content.

But then it isn't Akira. It's something else.

They could just finance a big budget Japanese production, set in Japan with a Japanese cast that would be faithful to the original story.

But then people might have to read subtitles, and there wouldn't be enough white people in it for audiences to relate to :awesome:
