Live Action Akira to be PG-13

I'm discovering that one of my biggest problems with the theatrical release was the shit pacing. Now, with lots of missing pieces of dialogue restored to the conversations they were plucked from, the breathless progression of scenes and lines undone, and an opportunity established to feel the atmosphere of both conversations and setting, I find myself believing in the world the movie was supposed to be presenting to us.

MTE. That and terribly awkward music choices.

This makes me even more excited about getting my hands on the Ultimate edition. Goddamn being poor :(

I actually lent my Ultimate Cut DVD to one of my tutors in college and he really enjoyed it (he knew nothing about Watchmen beforehand). Said it was the most unique superhero movie he'd ever seen. Although, he felt that the animated scenes (Tales of the Black Freighter) seemed out of place and didn't really belong in the movie.

Just his opinion.

The first animated scene was a bit jarring, but all the ones after seemed to flow well to me. On the whole, I liked their inclusion. They offered good little breaks to digest the rest of the movie, and I thought the commentary on the main story came across well.

We never got the Ultimate Edition. Seems they still don't plan on releasing it. I'm pissed.

Sucks. That's some bullshit.

Lack of giant octopus is dissapointing.

And yet, the switch wasn't as jarring as one would expect in my unpure and heathen opinion. As in, the story was still quite believable and things like that.

Still should watch the ultimate edition. I can imagine people will think the animated scenes look out of place though. But more in a Captain Baseballbatboy comic kinda way.

A giant blue guy who can bend reality is "believeable"?

Well, about as believable as a giant interstellar eldritch squid spawning in the middle of a major city is, only less jarring as there's a story behind it. Whereas there was little for the squid.

Squid would have saved it for me tbh, i thought the entire film boring and really badly portrayed.
Only redeeming feature was the prison sequence.

The quid could have gone either way tbh, just depending on how well they made it fit the overall visual consistency with the film. I think having the squid may have given it more of a comic book/sci-fi feel. I don't think it really suffered without it though.

I still think lauries character sucked, that actress is only good at one thing.

Doing nude scenes... kinda.

I try not to judge her too hard considering she's a relatively new actress surrounded by a group of... really awesome actors. I think they should have gotten Jennifer Carpenter for the role - great actress, and resembles the character much more.

Pretty much agreed.

Laurie's character sucks in the book too. It's not the actors fault, that's just who the person she's portraying is.

I liked Laurie's character... :( I mean, yeah her only role was basically to be a plot device, but I think she was interesting besides that. Not to mention the fact that she reminds me of Princess Leia Carrie Fisher :monster:

I have no love for Useless Spectre and Fat Owl.

It overall being a bad idea to make this aside, have any of you actually looked at Efrons acting? He's not bad. If he can shake this image he has he'll have a good acting career.

I haven't seen Charlie St. Cloud (don't really intend to) but I did enjoy 17 Again. He's got a good handle at comedy imo. Too bad comedic roles don't really get the same recognition as drama.

I'm not really judging Efron's capabilities, I think he's got potential to be honest. BUT this casting choice PLUS the PG-13 rating just shows which demographic they're trying to cater this movie towards.

There are two major roles, and I'm told that for Tetsuo, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy have been given the new script.

For the role of Kaneda, the script has been given to Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix.
