Memories of playing FFVII

What memories do you have of playing FFVII?
What made you gasp, laugh or simply go 'WTF' :monster:?
Any miserable failures or moments of dumb luck?
What confounded you for the longest time? What parts of the game did you like or dislike?

This is the topic for such recollections.

Some of my stories:
1) Every time I had just acquired Vincent I was so eager to use him in my party, that I forgot his first limit break has an elemental attack. This then resulted in rather uncomfortable encounters with the green dragon in the Nibel Mt, when monster-Vincent kept on healing the dragon with fire attacks.
2) To my surprise, while playing through the game for the zillionth time, I noticed that if you talk to the comedian in Rocket Town around the time of the rocket launch, he actually tells you jokes about the Shinra (and bad ones at that)! If Vincent is in your party he will remark what a fearful sense of humor this guy has. Cid will also react in aggrevation and punch the poor guy. :-\
I was just...wow... When I thought I had seen everything.

lol the one thing I remember the most from playing FFVII was that my first disk was so scratched that it wouldn't play, but I could switch it with disk 2, and it would play just fine, which is weird, but all of the CG scenes were random ones from disk 2. I never knew what was going on lol.

...I would refuse to go under water because I was afraid of Diamond Weapon. Every time, hed pop out of NOWHERE and I'd freak out.

In fact... the last time I played FF7 I did the same thing. Some things just never change. I never had the same fear of Ruby or Ultimate.

Also, being a little 9 (or 10?) year old playing FF7, I cried like a little bitch when Aeris died. I freely admit that much... but, what's really embarassing is that I also cried when Cait Sith "died" as well. I was a sensitive child :monster:

I remember summoning Comet on myself by accident while fighting Hojo... if that wasn't enough, my big brother walked in right that second. I wanted to curl up into a ball and cry from embarassment. xD

I was obsessed with making Cloud walk through a forest on the world map because I was highly amused by the fact that his one big spike would be sticking out the top. :monster:

I remember loving the background's to the world map and listening to the main theme. Even to this day, it makes my heart flutter. I was 11 when I played and beat this game. To this day, it's just as fun as it was back 11 years ago.

I also remember buying Cherry Pepsi and collected all the pics on the boxes. I remember going to the mall, and seeing those action figures for 50 bucks. Sometimes I wish I could go back to 1997, always regarded it being the best year of my life.

I could go on, but.../lol.

I remember being obsessed with Neo-Bahamut and Cid. I used them both in nearly every battle.

I loved Midgar. The beginning of the game is what made it famous, IMO. To this day I wish more of the game were spent there, maybe even all of it.

Midgar was really unique. I always wanted to visit the other sectors, I know like Cid spoke of going to seeing Loveless in a movie theater I believe, but don't quote me on that. Cid Highwind imo was quite a hero. His theme, is a Heroic Theme. Has pride and strength.

Me too, me too! I remember thinking "aw, this song's so pretty" and just staying there so I could listen to the song. I also remember being quite disappointed when the background song changed towards the end of the game.

hahaha, I hated the World Map theme once meteor is summoned. It creeped me out at the time. I always tried to spend as little time walking on the world map as I could: chocobos, Highwind (once the Highwind actually had different music, of course), etc.

Something I came to think of now that I am unable to find my old memory cards...

When I actually got FFVII December 13th 1999 (or was it 98? Hmm) I had no memory cards for the playstation. As a result, I played the beginning of FFVII over and over and over and over again!
*laughs* And I loved every minute of it. Especially when I played long enough to reach a new point. The farthest I got was the train graveyard right after the dress-up ordeal. The irony of it was that the back of the FFVII manual practically was an ad for memory cards; "Memory Card - Try beating FFVII without it!"

Finally receiving memory cards on christmas was a bliss! Now I could see the whole adventure unveil itself.

*continues to search for my memory cards*

One thing I remember was when I first played the game I was only 6, so on the very first screen of the game for some reason I thought the exit was towards the camera, despite seeing Barret and co. run through the true exit a second before...Yeah I have no idea why I remember that.

I remember for some reason being unable to beat Dyne (probably because I never really knew the wonders of restore materia) so instead I always got my dad to beat that bit for me. :P But hey I think being able to get that far myself when I was only 6 was a pretty darn good achievement.

First time I played it (or second if you ignore the one where I died on Guard Scorpion until I read the 'use Thunder' thing in the manuel :monster:), I stopped at the Dyne bit where you're wandering around in the desert. I couldn't get past it, just kept going around and around in circles. After that I bought a guide book and started the game again.

I also hated going underwater as well :monster:

Most of my memories of FFVII are of summer holidays spent indoors and staying up late catching chocobos :monster:

[/quote]*gasp* Are you saying you can't see TEH EMOSHUN IN THAR FACEZ? :o

About going underwater: I remember being on my merry underwatery way when I accidentally collided the Weapon. I never saw it coming. D': Needless to say, it wasn't pretty and I've also been a bit paranoid of going underwater since then.

Aaand about getting lost in the desert: I remember wandering in the desert for ages until that chocobo carriage thing showed up. At first I thought I had made it to wherever I was supposed to go... until it took me back to the starting point. I let out a "NOOOO!" a la Star Wars.

I was never afraid of going underwater, but I remember being curious as to what that big green monster thing was, so I ran into it on purpose just to see what would happen. Good thing I saved before I did it. :monster:

Ugh, I was there FOREVER. I could not find Dyne for the life of me and kept trying to leave through the desert (taking Cait Sith's "there was one exception" line to heart). I'm not sure how I finally caved, but it was a LONG time.

LOL I loved the expression during that seen too; it was so unexpected from such a serious moment.

So the worst part of playing for me (this was on PC) was how some of tue cutscenes didn't work and froze, meaning I had to replay the HUGE cutscenes (like the one in Whirlwind Maze) where I couldn't even just keep it on and leave because it was interactive. Finally I played around with the files and changed all the corrupt FMVs to the only one I knew would work for sure and wasn't ridiculously long- the one where Rufus was "killed." I got SO sick of playing the cutscenes and watching Rufus die :'(

Ditto.

I cried when Cait Sith and Aerith died, though the later more than the first. Then there was the heartbreaking moment when I looked at my boyfriend after I got control of myself and said, "So, since Cait Sith came back, she will too right?"... his answer caused another round of crying. FFX's end made me cry for a really long time too, but oh well, I like getting emotionally involved in games.

Other memories:
Me: Do I have to get Vincent.
BF: Yes, you do.
Me: But I never use him, and I hate that stupid boss I have to fight.
BF: Do it anyways, cause I said so.
Me: Grrrrrr...
I get him every time now, and still don't like it. :monster:

lol, Diamond Weapon was freaky indeed. I was freaked out by the music under there. XD

Balth, you cried when Cait Sith died? XD I can understand Aerith, but Cait Sith's "sacrifice" I thought was portrayed comically. (Though I admit I was more interested in the Cloud going nuts portion of the Temple of the Ancients than anything else.)

My favorite memory of Final Fantasy VII is the first time I ever played... Cloud said "don't attack the scorpion when his tail is up", and what did I do? I attacked. XD I totally got annihilated. So pathetic back then...

I also loved Rufus's "what a crew" hair flick when Avalanche introduced themselves to him. That scene cracks. me. up. everytime. XD
