Memories of playing FFVII

I know, and I didn't even use him and thought he was stupid. But... something about a party member just going off to die and never coming back (or so I thought) made me cry a little. Though, it was more a couple tears running down my cheek, rather than my full out crying my eyes out at Aerith's death (plus I named her after my sister, that for some reason also affected me).

lol, Diamond Weapon was freaky indeed. I was freaked out by the music under there. XD

Balth, you cried when Cait Sith died? XD I can understand Aerith, but Cait Sith's "sacrifice" I thought was portrayed comically. (Though I admit I was more interested in the Cloud going nuts portion of the Temple of the Ancients than anything else.)

My favorite memory of Final Fantasy VII is the first time I ever played... Cloud said "don't attack the scorpion when his tail is up", and what did I do? I attacked. XD I totally got annihilated. So pathetic back then...
I never beated diamond.......I'm scaried of it.

I didn't cry when Cait Sith died since he is a doll, and it seems can always replace itself.

lol I wonder if Cloud watch Zack Fight the scorpion in Junon in CC?

IT WAS SAD ;_;

Getting Vincent was a pain in the ass, and I didn't bother during my second play-through because I don't like his limit breaks. I've done it on all my other plays though, just because.

In fact, one of my main memories of playing FF7 was using Vincent in my party. I'd always use his limit, and as the rest of my party died in a hard boss battle (Materia Keeper is the one I remember most), I'd just have to sit and watch as he slowly got his ass kicked as well. It was quite disheartening.

Dyne was easy but holy flip did I ever hate him. I hated everything about him. He's just... ugh! The only thing about FFVII that really irks me and I can't stand. :P

I remember laughing at Cloud and Tifa's facial expressions on this scene. :monster:

lol I love mako poisoned Cloud, and how slow Tifa was on moving him.
haha very funny.

But did anyone else feel kind of awkward about seeing Cloud in a wheelchair the first time? Because I did. :/

Speaking of Dyne, I hated that part because I got that chocobo racing glitch where the game freezes up, and the last save point is half an hour earlier. It was my boyfriend's and we were playing together, and then I thought (six months later), "Why not look up a patch?" Found it, installed, kicked Dyne's ass for the # time, finally got to see what chocobo racing was all about. XP

What about losing Kalm memories in a thunderstorm? I think I found a gray hair back then. Seriously, never again... same thing with the Reunion in the Northern crater.

And I also remember not knowing shit about ATB system and mesmerizing Cloud's hair instead. xD

(Off topic; Just flashed into my mind... we need our ''Bloopers'' back xD)

Mostly I remember playing it in my friend's basement, which was the first place that we played through the game (him, me, nad my little brother). It was interesting having a story unfold itself, and laughing about all the cross-dressing and other shenanigans.

About the game itself, I remember being very enthralled by the general feel of Midgar as a city. It's not so much anything else in the world that captured my attention as much at the dark odd technology and detting of Midgar. I remember being rather shocked during Aeris' death scene, as I'd used her character quite a bit earlier on, and I remember very carefully following Zack's storyline as soon as his character appeared. I drove the buggy around everywhere, and was gutted that when you get the highwind, your red, coconut-wheeled vehicle vanished. Also - I was furious in chocobo racing that Teiho's black Chocobo is ALWAYS better than yours. It's not really difficult to beat him (sprint through the water section on the long course), but remember finally getting a chosobo with a 999 stamina, and upon checking his, his is boosted to 1249. ><

It's a Warning Message split into sections in the WORST possible locations. I also remember this battle being unnecessairly difficult because of that.

Cloud "Barret, be careful!"

It's gonna counterattack with its laser."

I'm starting to think it's possible that 99.54321% of the people who played FFVII got screwed in their first playthrough because of that. I always thought it was a translation error, but it actually makes sense when you put it that way.

In any case, I too fell victim to Cloud's trickery. But on my second try I pwn3d the thing and ate its tail for breakfast. :monster:

I didn't get screwed by the scorpion. I understood what Cloud meant. I don't find it to be worded in a way that is not understandable.

To tell the truth I used to think that tail laser attack was unavoidable. But it was all good to me anyway...it charged up my limit breaks at least, heck even now I attack it tail up or not. :P

When I first played FFVII, I mainly did it for the FMVs. Yup, I was so nuts about the graphics that I created save points before each FMV so I could watch them whenever I wished. My favorite was the escape from Shinra Headquarters and the flashback in Kalm; I watched those numerous of times. Oh yeah, and the Weapon sequences were just wonderful.

Don't know why, but I had the habit of writing down small parts of the dialogue in the game and the battle stats revealed by using Sense on an enemy. I had aspirations to create a guide, despite there already being hundreds of FFVII guides on the internet by the turn of the millenia. My favorite lines, which I wrote down, were Vincent's words when you first meet him. I was also so fascinated by the family trees and interconnectedness of everything; "Wow... Gast and Hojo worked together, and Hojo's son Sephiroth killed Gast's daughter Aeris..." So yes, while the highlights of playing were the FMVs I was very much drawn into the drama. One of the greatest moments for me must have been seeing the Cloud-Zack flashback in the Shinra Mansion basement.

Drawn in by the FMVs. Captured by the story. I'm far from alone in this respect.

Edit: Never had any problem with Cloud's bad advice. I had already seen my friend finishing that battle so I knew the strategy. As for when I actually read Cloud's message my mind must have filled in with an AND; "Attack while it's tail is up AND it's gonna counterattack" etc.
That's also a part of my memories of playing FFVII. Certain sections were difficult because I simply did not know enough english back then. But I got most of it.

Well it's a little bit of both. That is what I later took it to mean, but the word "and" would fix everything even with the way ti was divided up:
"Attack while its tail's up,"
-----------------------
"and it will counterattack with its laser."

It fixes everything (I know I changed 'gonna' to 'will' as that also makes it a little clearer, but even with 'gonna' I would have gotten it with the word 'and')

And even though Cloud did "trick" me, I still won. I just used more potions than you would probably need to normally.

My first memory of Final Fantasy VII was first, seriously not getting it. It truly blew my mind. When I first picked it up, the only games I had been playing were of the Nintendo franchise...the closest I came to an RPG was The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

So I was really wondering why this "fantasy" game seemed to take place in such a technologically advanced world.

I played it and liked it, but when I first saw Sephiroth, I thought he was the true hero! Because he looked it. He looked noble, badass, and etc. I was quite surprised when he turned out to be the villain and Shinra was just secondary.

And I seriously jaw dropped at one of my characters, Aerith, being impaled.

So yeah, FFVII was full of surprises for me :monster:

Naw, just the n00bs. :) I think fans of previous games probably recognized the cliché even if they weren't paying attention to the dialogue. The first boss fight was always a creature that counter-attacks while in some special state: the Mist dragon in IV, the Wing Raptor in V and the Slug thingie in VI.

^ Oh, the n00bs! I was one of those. That explains a lot. D':

Ok, random memory coming back: In that part where Diamond Weapon comes out from under the sea and is headed to Midgar I remember being all panicky and rushing to Midgar at full speed. For some reason I thought it would get there super fast and eat everyone and stuff. That thing really scared me.

So after reaching Midgar and being slightly confuzzled as to why it wasn't there yet, I realise it was pretty much in the same place as where it emerged, taking its sweet little time. I remember being rather disappointed because finding out that a Weapon walked almost as fast as a granny with a stick was kinda like when I found out (SPOILARZ) Santa wasn't real. It was a "You know, at first I thought you were really cool but now you're losing points in my consideration" moment. :duhard:

I remember when my brother brought home the game. Got the PC version for $7 at EB Games. This was Pre Platinum edition too.

<<" I remember being stuck in the slums for hours, because there's that one spot where you run up the pipe/beam thingy, but I didn't know you could do that, and I just kept running back and forth in circles.

I swear it was a complete and total accident that I went up the stupid ramp thing, and then I felt like an idiot.

xD Also remember trying to get across the swamp without catching a Chocobo; that never ended well.

ForceStealer

I could NOT manage to catch a chocobo. In fact, I STILL have a hard time catching one at that point on the game. I now have the timing down pretty well to simply huff it across the swamp.

The Midgar Zolom used to feel like an impossible enemy for me at that point in the game. For the first playthroughs at least. Then I noticed that it was easy to defeat it with the right limit breaks ready and being on a semi-high level. So I don't usually HAVE to catch a chocobo or pull the walk-half-way-save-restart-walk-the-remaining-half-trick.
"Midgar Zolom? THIS. IS. CLIMHAZZARD!!!"

I remember, after yet another playthrough, when at the Northern Crater/Cave on disc 3, (naively) believing that I had finally created a perfect save file. Before I learned that some items were missing and such I noticed a strange thing about Cloud's final HP on Lv99.
"...What? His Lv99 maximum HP is different from my last playthrough! ...This game just keeps surprising." For some reason I found this to be 'cool'.

Now, around 8 years after this realization, the information is out there on how to achieve the maximum values for HP and MP. Too bad things aren't going as planned with that right now, but I have to stop playing FFVII anyway. Been obsessing over it 100% lately.
