i guess this is another difference because the card box (the ones you can use in battle) has an upgradable max of 800, but the storage box (where you can't equip them) is 1600 max.I've done this too but the max atm is 800 for each of the storage boxes and I'm very close to filling them both
why are you making these choices, squr.
what!I think they have to be either pulled at or augmented to rank 4 before you can find them in the ability shop though.
who is deciding these things!
i can see the appeal of having a draw with only new job cards, because it gets kind of dull to get multiple draws where you get nothing new at all. but at the same time... 6 tickets for one card. stop this foolishness. perhaps some of the difference is due to legal stuff, since japan has laws regarding these gacha systems that i guess other countries don't.I don't know why but I can probably hazard a guess that it brings in more money for them one way or another. I think I would have preferred the Japanese version of doing it or at least have them keep the bloody job summon banner. It used to give a job card you didn't already own at the steep price of 6 summon tickets/3000 magicite for one job card (no ability cards) but the Legendary Jobs were not included. Hm, now that I think about it that's no good either.
although i will say, i have found one part where the english version is better than the japanese one. the mobius gift box. the cost is the same, but in the japanese version you don't get a spirit ticket, extranger or mog amulet. you get 2 elixirs (not 5), 2 phoenix downs (not 5), 3 crystals (not 5), and the regular delivery only includes 1 metal cactuar (not 2).
and also if they have mobius days on every day with an 8. the japanese one will only do one (which will sometimes last a period of several days, but it is only on or around the 8th of each month).
more general stuff
light/dark were elements added later in the japanese game so some of the earlier jobs couldn't use them at all. (they updated the starter jobs to be able to use them though.)
i would recommend trying to clear the story regions as soon as possible, at least up to chapter 5, since that will increase the level cap for ability cards. the chapters after 5 didn't increase the cap iirc (but they recently did increase it further to coincide with the new major update in the japanese version). this way your max level can increase too, which makes life easier with the more difficult stuff.
also do the battle tower events as soon as you can and don't be a dumbass like me and put them off until you miss them because you can get some nice items from them
also set a good rental card because it's nice when people have useful cards for other players to use and not like... some basic wind-element ability. ilu people who put the aerith supreme card as their rental
get a new spirit each month. during certain periods you can get an unlock extra skills bonus by selecting specific spirits (such as spring-themed ones during spring).
for levelling up: if the english version still has the daily missions, then at some point you can collect a lot of the mystic tablets which let you go to the cactuar area. save up a lot of gil and get one of the egg cards which give you an exp bonus (the rank 4 card does 20% and the rank 5 does 40%). pick one job you don't mind using mainly for levelling and fill the custom skill panels with exp up cards (save up draw coins to do the red 3 star/rank draws but failing that, sometimes you can get 3 star cards from the blue 2 star draw) to increase the exp bonus. some weapons have an exp bonus auto-ability, so if you get one of those then keep upgrading that because you will have a random chance of upgrading the exp bonus too.
the best one for exp grinding is i think meia's santa lucia job. it has a base exp bonus of i think 20% and its weapon, stella di prima, can get a max exp bonus of up to 30% through upgrading. my current set up for it has a total exp bonus of 123%.
