Just finished it myself, and gotta echo Bats' thoughts. It was disappointingly short, but that means it was worth watching. Guy playing Kano has the attitude for the role.
It was short, but being around the 11 min mark isn't too bad for something that's going to mutliple, shorter episodes. I think that they're going for what would be 15 min shorts, if it were aired on TV. Also, at 10 episodes, they'd just about manage 2 hours total.
Overall, I enjoyed it though, and look forward to more.
Part 2. Short, but good. Things are starting to get into more classic MK territory now. I'm assuming that Episode 3 will be following some new folks for a bit.
I also updated the first post in the thread, so that all the episodes will be saved there for easier access.
Another episode that really left me wanting more. Episode 3 cannot come soon enough.
Gotta say, with the exception of Jax using a different form of martial arts than I typically picture him with due to the recent games, Kano's disfigurement came about almost exactly as I'd always pictured it. Also love how the angrier Jax got, the less complex his fighting style got, so that he was just using simple strikes, blocks, and dodges that work.
Episode 3 "Johnny Cage" is out, and I've updated it into the first post. Ed Boon makes a cameo appearance, and things start to move further into MK territory. It's 12:00 and feels a little more substantial than the previous ones.
It looks like they're being forced to censor some of the episodes, but the first 2 are coming back fully uncensored on Friday. Apparently Favoriting/Liking/Commenting the videos are helping them keep/restore the full content. One does have to wonder why the hell anyone expects Mortal Kombat to need to be censored, because people'll just wait until Friday to watch the real versions. I'm hoping they go back to just leaving it the hell alone...
Ahhhh, Mortal Kombat and fools who want it censored. Didn't we all learn how poorly toning down MK goes well enough from vs. DC Universe?
Still, really enjoyed this ep. Shows that the folks running this can handle more than one kind of drama well. I'm also much more sold on Johnny's situation than I was at the start of the MK movie, despite the different circumstances
and I loled at the idea of Johnny Cage as a Power Ranger
. Don't think his fighting style was quite showy enough for the Cage I remember ever since Deadly Alliance, but that seems to be part of his problem getting work (and isn't it just like film/TV execs to see someone as not flashy enough and too fake all at the same time). Still tends towards flashier moves than Jax and Kano seemed to prefer though, so it fits. And yeah, gotta love how he used a MK-style VS. screen for his presentation.
All in all, still enjoying this series, can't wait for Kitana & Mileena next episode.
The new one's VERY different from the rest, because they use a large amount of animation, which is probably why it feels like the largest partially completed episode yet. Most of the animation is rather interesting. Not 100% sure what I think of this version's Baraka looking like an orc, and having hair. I also really hope that Shao Kahn decides to start wearing his skull kabuto by the next time we see him.
I was also a little surprised that they pronounce her name as "Sindul" at first and then correctly as "Sindel" afterwards. At 3:45, it sounds like the narrator is intentionally saying "komplete kontrol" which was amusing.
I thought it was pretty good, after the less impressive mileena and kitana episodes anyway. I think he also sounded like Christopher Lambert at times, which is quite ironic, given Raiden was also portrayed by said actor =p.
Scorpion's Japanese seems a little bit rough, especially because of how obvious it is that the actor playing his son Jubei is fluent, but that might not be super apparent to someone not overly familiar with the language (His accent sounds a bit Native American). Sub-Zero seems to be a lot more fluent.
Interesting to hear the song Teru Teru Bozu though. It's another week that was unfortunately cut short a bit too soon, but I'm hoping that Scorpion redeems himself, because he seems a little oblivious getting snuck up on constantly, despite the opening.
With only a few more episodes left, I wonder if they'll get into the actual Mortal Kombat Tournament like Jonny Cage's episode seemed to suggest, or if they'll just be limited to everyone's character introductions.
