For the month of June, I'm running a Final Fantasy VII-themed forum game. It's based on a card game called Diamant, with a few small differences. I hope you'll take part!
The aim of the game is to have as many Mythril shards as possible by the end of the month. In order to get those shards, you have to enter the Mythril Mines.
Every day, I'll ask who wants to join a mining party. As long as at least three people sign up, they're good to start an expedition.
Whenever a mining party is in the mines, I'll ask who wants to stay in the mine and who wants to leave. As long as at least one person wants to stay, a dig will take place. A dig will always take place on the first day of an expedition.
The mines have many levels, and we'll call the first level, nearest to the surface, level 1. Deeper levels have higher numbers. After every dig, the remaining miners will progress to the next (deeper) level of the mine.
Here's how a dig works. The miners will find a random number of Mythril shards, anywhere from (number of miners)+(day*level) to double that amount. So if we get eight people on the first day, they will dig up a minimum of 8+(1*1) = 9 shards, but if three of them make it to the sixth level on June the 6th, they'll find a minimum of 3+(6*6) = 39 shards.
Shards are divided equally between every miner who is still in the mines, but if there is any remainder after the division, it is not allocated to anyone. Instead, it is left at that level of the mine to be collected later. For example, if five miners dig up 23 shards, they'll each get four shards (since 4*5 = 20), and the last three shards will stay where they are.
Who gets to collect them? Whoever gets there first! If, at any point, someone decides they want to leave the mine, they will claim every left-over Mythril shard from the previous levels. If two or more people decide to leave together, they will share the shards between them. Again, any remaining shards will stay in the mines. Of course, leaving the mines means you're out of the current expedition and won't be able to find any new shards until you join a new one.
Deciding when to leave is the most important part of the game. Of course, you're not just going to tell everyone in advance that you're going to be leaving if you plan to claim all the left-behind treasure for yourself! That's why there's an element of secrecy in this game, as I'll now explain.
There are three possible actions for you each day. If you are outside the mine, you can request to join a mining party. As I said before, if three people sign up, you can start a new expedition (in a separate mine shaft). If you are inside the mine, you can choose to stay or leave. You must make that choice either by posting in this thread or by sending me a PM. This is important: if you make a choice by PM, it will override anything you post in the thread on that day. So you can tell everyone you're staying while secretly planning to leave!
If you're wondering why you'd leave at all when the rewards just get bigger and bigger with each level, it's because there's one last detail: there are monsters in these mines! When starting each dig (except on the first day, which is safe), you might be attacked by a Crawler, Castanets, Madouge or Ark Dragon. The first time a mining party encounters each type of monster, nothing happens, but the dig is abandoned for that day/level. The second time, however, the entire party will be knocked out. Each monster has a 10% chance of appearing. There is also a 10% chance of the Turks appearing. If the mining party contains at least three members when the Turks appear, nothing happens, but again, the dig is abandoned. If only one or two remain, they are instantly knocked out.
If you are knocked out, you will be evacuated from the mines, but you won't be able to keep your Mythril shards, so watch out! You have to bank your Mythril for it to count, and the only way to bank it is to actively decide to leave the mines. Getting knocked out also forces you to spend a day recovering before you can join a new party, which you don't have to do if you choose to leave.
Summary
Post your chosen action in this thread, or PM it to me, each day. A day runs from 00:00 (or whenever I post the results for the previous day) to 23:00 my time, which is Eastern European Summer Time, UTC+3 (Helsinki). The available actions are:
If you're outside of the mines: join a mining party.
If you're inside the mines: dig (stay) or leave.
If you are outside the mines and do not indicate what action you want to take, you will do nothing. If you are inside, you will evacuate the mines without collecting any of the left-behind treasure, but you will be able to keep your own shards.
If you PM me your choice of action, it will override anything you post in the thread.
The first day has just begun, so you have 23 hours to sign up for the first expedition. There can be multiple expeditions at once, so don't worry if you sign up a couple of days later. The biggest rewards will come towards the end of the event anyway.
Sorry that the rules are a bit on the long side. The game isn't complicated at all, really, but I like to be thorough. When I'm back at my home computer I can add some graphics to illustrate the game. See the day 1 post below to get an idea of how the game works. Any questions, fire away!
