New Ghostbusters film

Being as it's the day Ghostbusters II said the world was gonna end, they released a trailer for a trailer for the new film, and I figured I'd toss up a thread about it.

Tbh, Egon/Harold Ramis is dead, and is Bill Murray even going to be involved in the slightest? It's meant to be an all female team, which I don't really give a shit about.

I mean what I liked about GB was the comedy and how those characters bounced off each other. I'm not holding my breath.

It'll be a comedy. I just have little hope it'll do well. Some of the old franchises they should leave alone.

Watch Spy. Thats one of the best comedies in years. Made by the same people. Everyone involved comes from the same comedy background as the original.

I hate seeing everyone being down on this without even seeing a frame of footage of the characters.

They have an all male version of this coming out too don't they? With Tatam involved? I don't really care about ghostbusters so it being cancelled may have slipped under my radar

@Pixel: I might be more enthused about the project, but the marketing hasn't been great either. I mean, what are they hoping to achieve with this trailer?

Yeah this whole trailers for trailers thing is bonkers. These are the end times.

To release something on the day GB2 predicted the end of the world, but they dont want to start the marketting push without the effects and stuff ready. Or they have other business reasons to release a trailer next month

I thought seeing the footage with Bill Murray was enough to achieve that (for me at least), especially if they're hinting at the prediction being a plot point of this film.

It's getting a lot of hate. Honestly not the best trailer they could've done, it was just ok. But srsly too much hate for it.

OK well, I think I gave a gentle smile there for a minute. But yeah. Whelmed.

Also, I hate to go all tumblrite all of a sudden, but in the original GB Winston was the only one who wasn't a scientist, and had to be the incredulous guy (despite getting some of the most memorable lines) So liek they've gone with an all female team, but then they have one non-white character who also isn't a scientist. I mean, in the great scheme of things it doesn't really matter much. Just seems a little weird to me that they did that.

But I guess I'll wait till it's out on dvd or something

I had a sensible chuckle moment when Kristin was walking past the mannequin heads. That was a nice gag.

That was also the only part of the entire thing that made me laugh.

IDK, trying to compare it with the old ghostbusters which iirc has similar types of humor. Not sure if that type aged well,

Also, despite the opening sorta hinting otherwise, this is a 100% reboot — so there isn't any direct reference to the original Ghostbusters in the film. This isn't a "new team" for anything other than the audience.

I dunno, the original ones are still funny. This thing has that self aware Judd Apatow film vibe about it mixed with...I dunno. Paul Blart mall cop?

Anyway they should have had at least two non white characters, and the 'everyman' person should be like, a 50 year old overweight out of work taxi driver played by....Louis CK or Jason Alexander or someone.

Actually. Richard Ayoade would have been fucking perfect in this.

I felt nothing from the trailer. Didn't even twitch a smile. I just can't tell you how disappointed I am.

And how stupid is it to confuse people even further on the sequel / reboot front? Who put that stupid opening text in there?

Yeah. As long as it's aware of where its coming from and draws upon that , a la Fuller House, I could see myself watching it as well.

I will say though that if the second trailer doesn't at least make me chuckle more then this one did I may not actually pay to see it

I'm worried that they changed the everyman character from the straight man comedically to an over the top wacky character. I also get no cynical sleazeball vibes from Wig, which worries me. The other two fit fairly well into entheusiastic cornball and eccentric scientist that I'm good with them.
I just hope the writing holds up.

I'm desperately hoping is good and makes money because if it bombs the thing Hollywood is gonna take away from it is "well if it wasn't an all female cast it would've done well".

I've never seen the original Ghostbusters before but I'll see this in a heartbeat. I love Melissa McCarthy, she's great. I don't understand where the hate is coming from; it's the same with big special effects disaster movies. Was San Andreas going to change my life with the phenomenal acting? No, but The Rock was awesome and it was cheesy as hell.. just like this will be.

I know atleast for me part of the problem is actually Melissa McCarthy lol.

I only really found her hilarious in Bridesmaids and I attribute that to Kristin Wig and Bridesmaids just being hilarious in general more so than Melissa.
Other than that I can't really think of a performance from her that was anywhere near as great as the character she got to play in Bridesmaids.


If Kristin had a hand in shaping Melissas character for this movie than I'm all for it. Otherwise I kind of think she brings it down a notch


P.S. That splitdepth gif you have of the charizard fight is really awesome.
