Well I don't think there's anything to overhaul until there's a vote/discussion for each mod/candidate?

Unless I'm not understanding what people mean by overhaul.

Overhaul would be chaos, and isn't that something we're trying to avoid? xD

I think mod nomination is a great idea, since sometimes the staff might not be aware of how good a particular individual is (this isn't a dig at staff, but rather an observation on how big this site is). We also need another staff member at least, since Tenny has quit and some of the staff ain't as active as I think necessary. Having a person or two who can get the site content increased would be ideal as well, IMO.

Also, while I don't think voting is a bad idea, I also think that being a good mod isn't necessarily about being the most popular. It can be someone who is just smart about situations and active and friendly. A Q&A might actually be more successful in fettering out the stupids, but I don't know much more extra work that is. We're assigning staff, after all, not trying to assign senate. xD

For my part, nominate, ask them a few questions, and pick two mods and another site staffer.

And then get shit done, because there's a lot of talking and not nearly as much doing.

...yes, I do perfer this to cleaning. >>

I want to be Cthulhu.

THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE :cthulhu:

I dunno about an actual overhaul; sparse incidents aside, the current team has been relatively stable for as long as we've been online, and I think it works quite well.

However, I do see the importance in semi-regularly getting new blood in the team. We've done a bit of a mini-review (Mako and me, at least... or well, he's told me stuff :monster: ), and as it turns out there's about four mods that haven't been around much or are stepping down (top of my head Tenny, Mog, Force and I guess someone else). Replacing those - or at least adding people to get up to 'full force' again would, at least imho, feel a lot like an overhaul already.

Honestly though, I don't think - or I don't hope that - something like that would have a major impact on the site. I know that empowering people in one way or another makes them feel more responsible and 'do more' for the site, but I'd much prefer if people just did stuff of their own accord, instead of needing some token / usergroup of permission to do so. I'll just reference people like Fangu and Flintlock who, even before being added as site staff, were doing, organizing and proposing stuff for the site, and continue to do so. Of course, this may also be because both, along with a dozen others, are my personal sex slaves (in the IRC, mainly) - I just have that effect on people. :ultros:

New staff: aye. Massive overhaul / reviews : nay. Booting people for being in staff too long: Definite nay (not sure if that was proposed). Gracefully replacing people that haven't been able to be on much: aye, if they can be contacted and they voluntarily give up their position for someone else.

Perhaps each person here should form a list of who they would like to see remain on staff, join staff and who should return?

For me, activity is just as important as having a good head on your shoulders when it comes to modding.

Yop: You're going to be around either way. But, do more, fgt.

X: You're always in & out, but you always come in when we need you the most. If you can, just try to be around more often I guess. I know you've got a lot of things going on, so sorting that out is more important anyway.

Mako: Batshit insane, but you're around enough.

Aaron: Tbh, I think you'd benefit from a break actually. I'm always going to want you around no matter what. But, with the depression thing going on, I really want you to focus on getting better man. Maybe become a Tech Admin again? You'll have less to deal with on your plate while you deal with your health, and you won't be suffering from chronic boredom. Dunno.

Force: I have no idea what's going on with you. You've been slowly falling off the map.

Tres: Along with Dacon and MOG, you're my one of my favorite mods. You have a lot of shit going as well. So, I have no idea how long it's going to take until you sort that out and make your return. Dunno what to do with you either.

Hito: You're always on, but I want to see you more in the staff section.

Ryu: Other than this little mishap, you've been doing fine man, keep it up.

Dacon: Just stop leaving staff, you're always around and I'm not going to bother complimenting your ass any further.

MOG: You're another obvious choice, but your job does limit how active you can be. But, I value your opinion so I'd still like to have you around.

Brooke: You're a must.

Tifabelle: You're active enough, and you've got a solid head on your shoulders. However, I have noticed you do have the propensity to get emotional once in awhile. But, I'm pretty sure you'll be more aware of that as a mod.

Kat: Who the hell are you? Is that YACCBS? oO If so, I love you. Don't hurt me please.

Fangu: I know you were mentioned a few times. You actually have the most potential, imho. You haven't even been around a full year yet and you've already accomplished a lot here. Not sure if you've created the necessary connection with the entire community yet. But, you're certainly on your way. Keep on truckin'.

Splintered: You're actually pretty awesome. But, you fly under the radar. If you could be more active, I'd say definitely.

Honestly anyone inactive may aswell be removed from staff. If they're not here as much as regular members, it's kind of hard to give their opinion that much weight. It's not like the position is something they are entitled to.

Of the current staff, I would probably keep Yop (obviously), Ryu, Road, Adri and Hito. Everyone else's activity seems rather spotty.

and I honestly have no problem with Tony being an admin. He's probably the only one somewhat entitled to that kind of position imo. Though to be fair, I can't imagine him as a mod :monster:

That last suggestion will never happen. Mei is far too busy with her studies.

I think she's declined the suggestion, but I don't recall if that was on forum or through other channels.

I'm pretty sure Fangu doesn't want to be a mod, but I don't want to put words in her mouth. I don't think she'll be able to reply until she's back on Monday.

At the moment, Fangu's kind of a tech staffer, working on a redesign / rethinking / restructuring of the front page (because I'm too lazy for that).

And I'm going to toss my veto in here: I'm definitely keeping Mako, X, Aaron and Road; Aaron needs a break but is still one of the smartest and most influential people I've ever had the pleasure of e-knowing, Mako and X have always remained the voice of sanity and highly professional, and Road is loved by all and continues to be an excellent part of staff.

And I'm not in the slightest bit inclined to be negative about the other people in the mod team atm, despite mistakes they may have made.

I'm not going to comment on the staff present, other than witnessing drama I don't understand- they've never done wrong by me.

I still think that the best possible mod candidates are Brooke and Dacon. Lots of other mod worthy candidates but I like the way they handle bad situations and the fact they take initiative on their own projects. I only know that Fangu is working with the technical side otherwise I would have voted her as well.

Oh also, I'm flattered that anybody would even consider me, but I don't want to be mod. I've modded enough that I've experienced my own drama bombs. I'm just here to waste time with lovely people. But thanks anyway.

Going back to the Wikipedia idea, some admins put themselves up for re-election, even when they do not have to, if they feel like they haven't been performing or if they have done something controversial. That way they get reassurance from the community that they should stay in the job - a new mandate, if you like. If we're not going to have a complete overhaul - and I think Yop gave all the reasons necessary for why we don't need one - perhaps some people might want to consider doing that.

Or not. It's just an idea.

I would like Brooke to be a mod as well as Tifabelle. The rest of the old mods are fine with me but Mako. Sorry man, I mean no offense to you but shit ain't working out for you in my book. I wanna support you, but your behaviour and impression doesn't seem to leave an impression that you are capable of listening and understanding your fellow man's words of ire and request. Until you can change this impression, my door remains open to the possibility of you becoming a better mod than I can imagine.

I think current staff are already being sorted out. I fully support Aaron taking a break, but coming back to whatever job or capacity he wants when it's good for him. Please don't abandon tech stuff though because <3

I'm personally going to do a bit more reflection on being a mod myself with all the nominations I'm receiving from members and staff. No matter what, I want to make sure I am voted in, people get to ask me questions, etc. I don't want the job unless the members truly want me to have the job, since it's volunteering my time to serve them.

Tifabelle is probably the person I have the most faith in for becoming a new mod. I feel she isn't emotional, but passionate, and passionate about the right things. She's shown she wants justice, fairness, and honesty. I see myself being able to understand and respect her actions and decisions in a moderator role.
