New TLS Chat Client?

Hey, Hi, hoe, Hiya, How you doin?

Today, I was able to spot a lurker on a different site due to her :mon:ology and her FFVII interest by being a creepy stalker. She's not exactly fond of joining forums and getting their feet wet around strangers and honestly neither was I really (No wait, I still am. I've only been trying again for like a week.).

I personally have only been trying to be active due to motivation from those in TLS chat. I figure the same may be the best way for others, too. Only thing is, Chat is now a Closed Door kinda thing, being on Skype and all. So I vote we make the chat easily available again.

I'm starting by trying to be active in the IRC again. However, The TLS Web Client burned to the ground like 20 years ago, right? Why not patch it up and get back in the routine of chatting up lurkers and showing them there's a community here?

For me the faulty client was the main reason I stopped using the TLS IRC. I can list many of the small inconveniences that that causes but basically it's a main reason it's dead imo.

My suggestion is this Open Source IRC Client. Made to put in a Browser, as expected. Something free, and hopefully low maintanence that won't need as much attention as the very buggy client that is there.

KiiwiIRC

Anyways, thats what I gotz ta say about this.

I'd love it if we could be more active in the chat or get a more active chat, I can't skype anymore because it eats at my computer and there's generally nobody in the chat anymore to talk to anytime I nip in there, I miss the old IRC times it would be really nice if we could start it up again :)

mIRC has been "Register" or "Exit" for two weeks now. (It used to be "Register" and "Continue".) Satsu said it would take two hours. He lied. Any suggestions? (Except for downloading a different client cus meh)

Edit: Nvm I have XChat - I'm online now but there's just me and Aaron :monster:

I went in the TLS chat a couple times this week and it was dead. I cant use skype because it makes my computer really slow and its very annoying. Since I dont post often chatting was what kept me more connected to the TLS and its members. I would love it if the IRC became active again.

HexChat; it's basically xchat, but actually free and no BS.

As for that KiiwiIRC, I could give it a look; it'll require some setup though, including server-side setup involving ssl certificates and whatnot. The front-end may require styling as well.

I use HexChat and its pretty good. I'd like to see the IRC more active again but a few members have complained about issues in there. I've never had any so I'm not too sure what to do about it.

But people complain about issues on Skype too, so... tl;dr let's come up with a 3rd? :awesome:

We did have a shoutbox at one point here; maybe we could use something like that again. If it's decently made, that is.

Hmmmm... what about gaming chat clients? I've been meaning to look into those for the purposes of streaming but I imagine there are a few robust programs out there built to be light on resources etc.

lol I like how the description on Hex Chat is "We're Basically XChat but free. They were open source, not our fault. "

Okay I gave this thing a try and it's marvellous. Just click 'try me' and then do this:

(You need to fill in irc.ipocalypse.net, and the channel #tls)

If you start getting messages you need a password, try another nick, as the one you chose is registered by someone else on the server. (You don't need to be registered to chat.)

I'm pretty sure we could just take that exact url and just iframe it to where our current client is, :monster:

So one more suggestion, Say we go through with KiWiIRC... I think the Chat link in the drop menu should >NewWindow>Fullclient. So, a page is just the chat.

The Chat already displays the server and channel. And if thats not evough, you can add that detail at an about page or faq page you may have that I don't know about. as well as any instructions that I don't think you'd need. If someone has IRC Client they probably already know how to grab the info imo. The chat just functions better full screen. as an iframe it just seems small and in the way...

I think this setup may ease the setup work load for those that may want to avoid as much work as possible. :megamon:

Plus being new window on link by default would still encourage browsing of course.

Guys I'm fucking with this now. KiwiIRC is a great web client so I'm just going to go ahead and embed that at the URL we used for the old one.

The good thing about it is it has themes too so we can fuck about with it to make it lifestreamey. I'm attached to the look of the old one.

Nope. But I'm sure Flint could make something :monster:

The problem with that would of course be that if the number always said '2' or some such nobody would ever enter. Logics.

It's going to be a gradual thing I think, making it active again. It's been like proper full belt deadula for a while.

much traj

But anyway the new client is embedded on the chat page.

Do pop in :monster:

There's a thing called client plugins that lets you moderate the code of the client without having to install something more profound. I haven't looked into it that much but it could be a cheap way to at least get the password thing to work (right now it isn't, probably due to ipocalypse's identifying commands). It requires JS/jQuery knowledge so it's something for Yop or me, I guess.)

Haha, yeah I remember mentioning last night that my eyes were getting heavy, I woke up like an hour or two later with my neck all sore and my laptop on standby mode :D
