Okay I'm now playing FFVI

Protip: Game behind closed doors. PSP is portable but...fragile.

I multitask around the house so that's not possible. I play FFVI while I do the laundry, cook and listen to the radio.

Also yes I know the PSP is fragile, I've dropped mine several times in its five year life so I know what happens.

Died climbing down the tower... like five consecutive non-reflectable magics. I had to cast reraise twice and I still died.

I'm considering finishing the game now because the tower pisses me off, I'll just come back and finish the other side-quests when I get into the mood.

Yes. Moogle charm. I know there's something in being able to beat the tower on your own, accomplishment and all that, but it's such a pain in the ass! The moogle charm just takes away the frustration :)

Doing that tower without the Moogle Charm is like doing the Deep Sea Research Center without Encounter None. It's doable, and I've done it -- but fuck, never again.

I bought FF6 just as it came out on the SNES, so I didn't have a guide. I didn't know about the Moogle Charm that was right behind Mog. I got to the top of the tower the hard way...and then died from the boss casting Ultima. RAGE!

At least FF8 the DSRC's encounters have a ton of rare drops that you wouldn't be able to get otherwise. FFVI's Tower is just murder.

Wait... there's a moogle charm!? Ummm I guess I got to break my rule and google it. I think I'll just try to defeat Doom Gaze to at least let me forget about the brutal deaths. Then if I get butchered all over again I'll do the tower with a moogle charm.

But... did I mention that I HATE going into the Narshe caves? I tend to get lost there >_>

I believe Encounter None doesn't work in this case as the enemies are fixed. You only encounter no enemies in the deposit by solving the puzzle above.

EDIT: What I mean is, if you use Zell to unlock it ENC-None becomes broken. But the dungeon can still be solved.

Also I wouldn't recommend completing FF6 until you have done everything. Kefka's tower is really hard, probably even harder on the non-SNES version. There are a few tips in the tower that will help you survive it, mainly the warp ability.

You cackle the whole way up and down :P It's so much shorter. Having the Sprint Shoes makes it even better :monster

If you bet worthless items you fight Chupon, who then sneezes you away. Bet one of a kind weapons, armor, and Relics to get to the actual meat.

I agree. Get everything else before you go to Kefka's Tower. When I tackled the Tower I had everything all done. Partly because you need it and partly because it's just so damn fun.

How you tackle the Tower is up to you, but I felt that the groups all needed a leader to pull them through their individual paths. So I took the characters from my primary party and divided them among the three groups. That way each party had a strong character to bolster them (one group had two strong characters of course). That made taking down each of the Statue Gods (what the hell were they called? I forget!) much easier. Hope that all made sense.

FF6 is a gem of a game. It was even more fun when I got to do the Soul Shrine and Dragon's Den. :)

The Warring Triad. :monster:

As I said in my final dungeon review for Kefka's Tower, in-unverse or plot wise, the 3 parties attacking simultaneous is awesome. And makes so much more sense than 3 or 4 people facing the ultimate evil while the rest twiddle their thumbs. But it is a pain in the ass having to use the characters I don't care for/haven't paid attention to :P

I only used one party to kill those things, the trick was warp as I say. It works hell of a lot faster than grinding with every single ally. I think the easy exp trick was going to Dinosaur forest.

Ha Doom Gaze is surprisingly easy once you learn that Pearl does the trick, I did get killed by him twice or thrice before hahaha :P

Do you want a complete list of Coliseum trades? It's not as simple as "bet something rare and you'll get something worthwhile", unfortunately - some one-of-a-kind items still result in facing Typhon and probably getting Sneezed away.

I actually just checked the items and I'm not sure I want them. I think I'll enter Kefka's tower with what I have.

*Sigh* It's just frustrating there is nothing to spend my money on, I have like 400,000 and it's a waste that you cannot buy anything better.

Hold that thought; there are a few notable items you definitely want.

-Betting the Behemoth Suit for the Snow Scarf is a good move, the Snow Scarf is uncontestably the best armor in the game as far as raw Defense goes, and equipped on Mog with some other key armors, his defense will be maxed out and he'll take no damage from physical attacks.

-Trading the Thunder Shield for the Genji Shield is something you might want to consider, there are way more Thunder Shields laying around than Genji shields, and the Genji is often the recommened end game setup for Cyan. Note though, that the Thunder Shielf is a great item, and I'm only recommending this bet because you can get more of them.

-The Regal Gown for the Minerva Bustier is an easy choice; the latter is one of the best armors in the game, period.

-Thornlet for the Mirage Vest; also an easy choice. The Thornlet, in spite its high defense value, is worthless in practice due to its constant HP drain.

-Tintinabulum for the Growth Egg? Easy choice. HP restoration by walking pales in comparison to double experience.

-Impartisan for Cat-Ear Hood . You can get tons of Imp Spears. So it's an easy choice to bet for when you get Relm's best helmet that doubles Gil dropped in exchange.

-Ragnarok for the Lightbringer. The Lightbringer is the most powerful sword in the game by a hilariously large margin, and this is the only way to get it.

-Cat-Ear Hood for the Merit Award is because since you can get tons of Imp Spears and Saucers, you can, by extension get more Cat Ear Hoods. Since Relm's the only one who can equip them, might as well bet it. Good thing, since the Merit Award is the shit and here's why; its a Relic that lets anyone equip anything. Usually pretty shitty on most characters, but the Merit Award turns Gau into a beast. You're lucky, on ther Advance version Gau can't equip it.

-Royal Crown for Genji Helm. The Royal Crown sucks. Get the helm.

The list goes on.

Certainly betting an Ultima Weapon or Lightbringer doesn't net you anything better than what you bet.

Absolutely. I just wanted to clarify that although your item may not be better, its still true that the only items that get you an Elixer in return are the common ones. However yeah, if your item you bet gives you a significantly worse one, yeah, reset.

HOWEVER, sometimes that is necessary in a weird 'chain of deals' of betting shitty items to eventually get a really good one.
