Is not about Frozen being good or bad. I personally love Frozen but the movie is not even a year old so this looks like OUAT just trying to cash in on the popularity at the expense of storyline quality. Especially since this had no build whatsoever last season and was just a last second ass pull.
I share your opinion about the last second ass pull Carlie, and there were other things about that finale that I hated. But I'm going to reserve judgement to see what they do next season.
I swear if Regina starts killing people and shit I'm going to stop watching it. Do not fuck with her development AGAIN.
I didn't get the feeling from their interviews that they just wanted to cash in(I mean, just because Frozen is new doesn't make it any more of a cash in than choosing some of the most well known and well loved fairy tails to focus on in the first place). I think they actually like Frozen and are excited to incorporate it. I'm not going to judge the quality of the storyline until I see it.
However, I'm with Lex and Carlie. When I first heard about it, and that was without me even caught up in the season, I thought it was cashing in as well. I'm very skeptical about it, but all is forgiven if it's done right.
And they still need to redeem themselves after the randomness of the Wicked Witch of the West.
The comments they've made seem like they have a genuine enthusiasm and interest in the story and characters, so I don't think they decided to exploit its popularity for their own gain. And even if they had, I guess I just wouldn't care as long as they provide me with some good entertainment.
Wicked Witch was eh, but I didn't hate her, because Regina was awesome when she was fighting her. Eventually they were going to have to start pulling villains from somewhere anyway. It fit with the family theme, and the envy with green was kinda cute. But man, her obsession with Gold was pretty annoyinhg.
She falls flat compared to the rest, but when you have a cast of villains like Rumplestilskin, Evil Queen, Queen of Hearts, and Peter Pan, then you've got big shoes to fill.
I hate Hook. I just don't like him, he annoys me. I hate CaptainSwan even more, but I don't really like any of Emma's ships. CaptainSwan is especially annoying, if you aren't a fan and you have to droll through the episodes like blarg.
Also, I hope Rumple and Regina aren't evil, but I don't necessarily like them being good either. I like a happy medium. Let them do the more ambigous stuff, still keep parts of their flaws like Rumple's cowardice (seen hiding his dagger), and Regina's quickness to blame when it comes to her unhappiness, but please don't let them slaughter random dudes again. You can keep the integrity of who they are and still have character development.
As far as Frozen, I mostly laughed when I saw the reveal. It's obvious what they were pulling. But I don't care if they are obviously going for a cash grab, as long as its well written. As far as a story about family goes, it fits thematically.
I don't think it's going to bad because it's new, that logic makes no sense to me. But it also doesn't mean it will automatically be good.
I really don't understand why Frozen being currently popular obviously means they are including it solely(or mostly) to exploit that popularity for profit. Because they write a tv show they've got to be cynical, greedy and calculating with dollar signs in their eyes and there's no way they can sincerely be fans of Frozen? Should they never include it or should they have waited until season 7 or 8 so people wouldn't jump to conclusions about the whole thing?
Sorry to double post, but I don't have the option to edit mine right now.
Hey Splintered, could you give some insight on why you don't like Hook? I'm just curious because it seems like a heck of a lot of people love him to the point where I haven't seen much of the opposite view point.
And I was also curious about what you guys think about Neal, his personality and the way his whole thing was handled... I hear a lot of people say they felt a disconnect between his younger and older selves
Have you ever had an archetype of characters that you just can't particularly enjoy, or immediately jumps to your attention as overly deliberate? It's not the acting or the character is bad, but it's the same way with meeting new people, you just aren't going to get along?
Hook type characters, smarmy, smug, but smooth are one of those types for me. I either really like them, or hate them, and Hook stands in the latter. I don't know, in a show about cheesiness, he's almost too overly character acting. Like a downgrade Captain Jack Sparrow, but less interesting and more broodiness. He doesn't seem like a character to me, he seems like a personality geared to make people swoon.
And his change and romance seemed so... awkward. I don't even remember when the change happened, he was always prone to switching sides, but the self centeredness was such a large part. It just, his turn to good, his absolute devotion to Emma Swan, his relationship with Henry (which felt the most poorly squashed in of all), his redemption, it all doesn't speak to me.
If it sounds very vague, it is. I can't like Hook, he just rubs me the wrong way. I could see where he was going a mile away and didn't like it, the actual development and seeing it fold out didn't change my thoughts.

Neal, the almost a good character. I laughed in the flashback because while Emma can pull off being young. Neal looks forever late 30s. I feel like if he was as pretty as Hook, he would have as many fans for his ship as CaptainSwan, but in general they fumbled on him.
It didn't help that him dating what was some chick from an evil organization was a painfully bad and dull twist. His relationship with Emma had potential but there was no chemistry.
The only really interesting thing was him and Rumplestilskin. I don't hate Rumpbelle, but I never thought of it as particularly healthy, and I felt Rumple's true redemption was Neal.
They sort of handwaved the whole death thing. Rumple figured out Neal dies and doesn't do anything about it? lol. No.
It stinks of killing of the spare for Hook, it was badly done, and there wasn't enough of Neal's desperation to make me think he would go mess with magic even though he knows it will end badly. The idea is there, that his downfall mirrors Rumple's, but the execution sucked.

I could have wrote this Splintered. I can't stand cockiness. "Lovable rogue" just isn't a thing for me. Most of the time I just think in my head "they're actually just being a cunt really, I don't know why everyone else can't see it". This is the main reason I (rather controversially) dislike Balthier's character in Final Fantasy XII.
I feel like they're over-romanticised by their fans to the point that people over-squee and make excuses for their cunty behaviour. Because it is cunty behaviour, and people just refuse to see it.
I need to make one thing clear: I don't think they're bad characters. I just dislike their attitudes. I think as a character Balthier for example is very well implemented in the story. And Hook is to some extent aswell. I'm indifferent to them as characters, I neither love nor hate them. What actually makes me dislike them is this unwarranted OMG HOW AMAZING ARE THESE CHARACTERS THIS OTHER ONE IS SO BORING IN COMPARISON when the case is actually that subtextually there's a lot more going on with the other character, it's just a bit more subtle.
In short, the fandom makes me do it
Having said that, I'm going to be honest. With Hook, I'm superficial. I like Hook because I find him attractive. I literally just like seeing his face on the screen. Also he's Irish in real life. And although his behaviour is cunty and at times irritating, it lacks the nasal smarm (nasal smarm is something I just made up but when I say it it makes me think of Balthier's voice perfectly in my head. Stop talking through your nose Balthier) that makes me dislike Balthier's character.
No one tell Fangu I was bashing Balthier because the next thing you'll see is a picture of my severed head on the front page with a post-it note attached saying "reasons Balthier is a deep and awesome character, a pre-self-guillotine suicide note totally written by Lex". Shhhhhhhh
she has no reason to come in here so if she does ill know it was one of you
Saw this on the tumblrz, from a EW article:
When Once Upon a Time producers asked their parent company, Disney, for permission to use characters from its 2013 animated megahit Frozen on their ABC fairy-tale mash-up this fall, they expected a chilly response. But Disney let the characters go (let it goooo!), and now fans of both the film and the show are excited - and maybe a tad nervous. Reimagining dusty Disney icons such Prince Charming is one thing, but Frozen is red-hot - the highest - grossing animated film of all time, with a possible sequel in the works.
What is Once planning to do with Disney’s newly crowned royalty, Queen Elsa and Princess Anna?
Showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz insist that capturing a faithful live - action version of Frozen’s heroines is their top priority. And relax: There’s no big character twist (like when the series turned Peter Pan into a villain).
“We want to do our best to honor what fans loved about that movie”, Horowitz says. (“The Frozen story line will be introduced in this fall’s season 4 premiere and will conclude midway through the season - so these toys are “going back on the shelf”, the producers say, once this are is over.)
The arc will not include a love interest for Elsa, a character praised for giving young fans a Disney Princess with an independent streak. Nor are the producers going to try palling off a live-action incarnation of chatty snowman Olaf. “His story in the movie is so beautiful, the story we want to tell doesn’t involve trying to expand upon that, nor do we think it should”, Horowitz says.
And there won’t be any musical elements from the film. So what are the producers planning? Newcomer Elizabeth Lail was cast as adorable Anna, Greek vet Scott Michael Foster as her love interest Kristoff, Fringe alum Georgina Haig as Anna’s ice-wielding sister , Elsa, and Lost veteran Elizabeth Mitchell as, well, Mitchell’s role is a mystery, but the producers say one of the top two fan theories is correct. (She’s either the original Snow Queen or Anna and Elsa’s mother, who was presumed dead in the film.)
Like Frozen, the show will focus on the relationship between Elsa and Anna, and explore the idea that you never give up on the people you love.
"At the end of the day," Kitsis says, "this is really expensive fan fiction."
I'm really excited about Elizabeth Mitchell being in S4. *-* And Olaf not being in(which I never thought he would be, but still glad to see it's confirmed he's not).
My heart's still broken for Regina, but she plays the scorned witch really well. I also like how it's not necessarily rainbows and butterflies for Hook and Emma either. Very curious as to the whole mystery surrounding Elsa and Anna's parents.
It just had to obviously tie into the Enchanted Forest, didn't it?
Haven't seen the first episode yet but did see last night's episode. I really like Georgina Haig as Elsa and I knew I would, however the show has not given me any reason to agree with their decision to adapt Frozen.
I get that since Ginnifer Goodwin gave birth she can't for the time being be doing physically demanding stuff but seriously the writers can't come up with anything better for her to do than fixing a power plant?
Also Bo Peep, what the fuck was that accent supposed to be?
