Our Site

@Lex
We really *should* care more about hits.
It's not good that in response to our site's relative obscurity I sometimes retreat into a false pride for belonging to a "niche site".
Heck I even forgot to add tags this time around. I seem to recall Yop saying tags had a marginal search engine effect but that it's better than not having tags.

I had no idea what the SEO was. Thanks for informing us.

Yop might have been talking about meta tags. iirc they're not the same in this case. I just did an assignment at work that involved optimizing for search engines and I was shocked by how little I know.

I'll have a look at the SEO stuff and write a guide so everyone knows what they're doing, but you could probably do it better than I can Lady Fangers <3

Actually... it's probably better to do a full article writing guide with the SEO as a segment rather than just an SEO guide, since most people (with the exception of Flint) tend to forget one part or another. A checklist is a good idea.

That's from memory; who can tell me what I've forgotten? Because I can't think of anything else which is exactly my point :P

No what I meant was - using SEO is good, it's made for Google and stuff. I have a feeling SEO doesn't use the html meta tags, which is what Yop meant isn't necessary for search engines (the meta tags).

Edit:
<meta name="keywords" itemprop="keywords" content="final fantasy, ffvii, ff, dengeki, playstation,interviews,unused text" />

It appearse it DOES use the meta tags - but - when it's a large plugin for WP meant to be good for Google searches, I can't see any reason why Google wouldn't use them. But. Again... someone should research this. :P

(from the Big Maintenance thread)
EDIT: With regard to site direction we need to start using SEO properly, get registered with google news (which Yop doesn't want to do because they want a real life address)
Does the address have to be Yop's? If not, then would it be troublesome to register my home address for google news?

Yeah everyone take a look at that, but I did post the same link over a year and a half ago. It might be somewhere in this thread or it might be elsewhere.

I think you and I have had seperate conversations about this at two different intervals Yop. There's nothing stopping us becoming registered with them in terms of content, so the ball is in your court dear owner. We should put it to bed one way or another, if we're not doing it a post explaining why would be good.

Is it not possible to have a PO Box for such an event? In the UK, PO boxes require a home address to register so the authorities can trace an owner, but the general public can't find out who owns it.

That could work, and TBH I'm sure Google already has my address, given I've also got their ad network going on. Plus my address is clearly visible whenever someone does a WHOIS on our page. IDK why I was bothered by it last time, probably because their guidelines seemed intimidating.

I just opened the form, it asks for a lot of info about the site which someone more comfortable with the content would probably be more suitable to fill in. Could anyone do that and give me the info to fill in plz? And sorry for being a dick about that stuff, TBH I think my reasons were valid last time but I forgot (I don't think it was just the address, maybe an inferiority complex about us not being good enough to fit their application?)

I'll do it and send a message to you on Skype when I need your info.

EDIT: And I'll do it as soon as I update our staff and contact pages XD. MY GOD THOSE ARE OLD. Bad Lex. Expect them to be fixed by the end of the day.
