I obtained PSVR (someone bought it for me, unbelievable!).

I can't really put into words how surreal it is. The YouTube app has a VR section and there's "VR360" which is what you'd expect, but "VR180" is somehow crazier because you legitimately feel like you're there. I watched a random one (I think it was Teen Choice red carpet or something) and the things you notice are unreal! Like people occasionally glance at the camera and it's seriously like they're looking at you, you suddenly become so focused on everything going on in the background. It's hard to put into words.

Watched a Star Wars thing too. Played some of the games, those were fun and as you'd expect. Some stuff really gives you vertigo, it's pretty cool.

You can play normal games in like a cinema screen mode, the large screen is amazing and perfect for FFVII. Unbelievable stuff, seriously. Will need to spend more time with it.

I've really been meaning to do this. I have a buddy with a Vive and another with Oculus, and I have absolutely LOVED every one of them (plus it'd be an excuse for me to FFXV fish in VR).

No I haven't XD. I don't think I will given the whole "camera is watching you" thing lol.

But yeah that sounds awesome. I've been following the VR stuff here and there over the years but just haven't felt comfortable paying for a set up just yet due to how easy i become motion sick.

I have tried out Google Cardboard though, bought it for shits and giggles.
From what I understand as far as the tech goes and the effect it's a very very low tier way to get a VR-like effect, and even when I tried it out I got some of the same mindfuck stuff going on you tried to describe.

Tried out some various vids in the VR section of youtube. There was a drag race one that was absolute nuts.

I can only imagine what its like in an actual headset that does the effect well.

That said though the cardboard also made motion sick af. Feels bad lol.

I've never really experienced motion sickness but I get this weird feeling in the centre of my forehead after a while that's kind of like an annoying tingle. It really feels like my brain knows it's being tricked and is trying to "fix" it, I get the same thing with 3D glasses in the cinema.

The VR stuff is incredibly cool and I'm looking forward to dipping into it more, but I can see myself using it more for the cinema effect for games I already love. It's pure immersion to have the surround sound in the headphones (3D sound is supported in the in-ear buds they provide with the PSVR) and the absolutely massive screen in front of you. Maybe not for the longer sessions but if I like designate myself a few hours to switch off and get into a game that would be the best way to do it.

Worth noting aswell is that it's incredibly comfortable. I have a desk chair that tilts back and has full back support so I decided to lie back while I was using it (holding in the options button on the controller at any time re-centres the screen to wherever you're looking) and the padding at the back is perfect, it makes a super comfy pillow.

I felt a bit weird after I finished using it if I'm going to express a negative. Like, I can't quite shake the feeling that I'm no longer wearing the headset. It's weird.

Me + bed + VR headset + headphones + blu ray movies/ youtube. It is an amazing cinematic experience and it's pure luxury. What a way to unwind. I can definitely see myself watching movies like this in future

I'm getting more and more excited about hearing more on this from you, Lex.
Have you done any other VR stuff prior to this?

I tried some of the VR demos and VR World games at a friend's house, but I didn't predict the impact it would have on "regular media". I'm just about to settle in to watch some stuff.

I can't believe the perceived size of the screen overall (the large option) which will be great for cinematic games, TV shows and movies. I did a Star Wars VR180 thing that's on YouTube and "standing" next to the "real" Darth Vader is quite something.

I haven't tried any truly modern games yet, I'll probably boot up Uncharted while I'm lying down just to see what it looks like. The idea of playing Mass Effect on a cinematic screen is making me incredibly excited. Might boot FFXII also since that's what's in the disc drive.

The largest size doesn't quite work for some games - it's too huge. For example I booted Sonic Mania and you have to physically move your head to see the ring counter and stuff, it's insane XD.

We've got a Vive at work, but so far I haven't found a killer app yet - I mean it's fun, but at the same time there's not really any games for it yet. Plus it's hecking expensive if I were to get it at home to, idk, play Elite Dangerous or something, something which I still need to try. PSVR is cheaper, I take it?

I tried the PSVR at EGX and it was definitely surreal, but a good kind of surreal. I was playing Superhot and the only way I can describe it is like The Matrix, where time stops moving if you do. It was pretty cool to play, especially where I was holding dual pistols and pretending I was Lara Croft. :awesome:

PSVR is the cheapest VR headset, costs around £300 ish.

I've mainly been using it for "normal" stuff, it's been awesome.

Has anyone ever had any troubles on certain games hanging on the PS4 pro? My cousin's pro hangs alot when playing certain areas in Destiny 2 and we couldn't complete some raids because of it.

Unfortunately in Canada, it's about 450. Sad face.

Well that's £270 so it's far cheaper where you are.

Along the same lines – I will still never understand the "but if they use the same numbers, they're the same price, right?" attitude that a lot of products (especially console-related ones) seem to have at launch. The fact that costs of the same thing in different parts of the can be wildly different is just bewildering to me given how global everything in the world is these days.

I think I'm going to invest in a PS4 Pro in the New Year. I've played the newest Uncharted and saw Horizon Zero Dawn at EGX, it opened my eyes to how beautiful it looks. It's just going to be a mere thought atm as the 4k thing is still relatively new and my PS4 is still going strong nearly four years later.

Not just yet, but I know it's obviously something else I'll need to get. :monster:

The Pro will still benefit from moar power on HD resolutions, they can either just get better framerates and/or higher quality, or even do supersampling, render at 4K then scale down to HD as a form of anti-aliasing. Oh and PSVR.

I played Superhot on the Vive, certain levels are hard and it feels more like a puzzle game at points than an action game, :monster:.

I've tried supersampling on my PC and I didn't notice much difference.

Don't get me wrong, though: I'd still get a PS4 Pro, if I was going to get a PS4 at all, just for the better framerates. But that's also why I play on PC. :monster:

Yeah TBF, aliasing isn't as big a deal on HD resolutions, let alone higher. Mind you it was pretty bad in Elite: Dangerous because it uses a lot of sharp angles and shit. May not have had it at HD resolutions.

I have a Pro on a 1080 screen - I still own my old PS4 and there's quite a comparison between the two just in terms of smoothness of the OS and stuff. The boost mode etc. is nice on Pro.
