There is a bar (or a restaurant?) in the same building, but it looks to be unnamed in the Remake. A shame indeed.

It's actually a hotel! You can see the sign through between the Watchmen of Fate!

Yeah, I've seen this, too. While that sign might belong to the adjacent building or the other part of the same building, The apartments and balconies above the bar/restaurant do indicate it being a hotel. There's also a "Welcome" neon sign on the entrance door.

Regarding the damage: the Loveless corner is the very first screen after the reactor in the original and the only place where they could show the destruction, especially since it's also the only place we've seen before the explosion (intro FMV) so the contrast has weight.
In the Remake, we get to explore the area between the reactor and the Loveless corner (Jessie scene + Cloud running through the area), where they can show the destruction before we meet Aerith, so there's no need to wreck the theater and Goblin's Bar anymore. Also, the Loveless corner lies now much farther away from the reactor, thus being less exposed to the blast.
