I just had a very wild thought about Caith Sith.

Remember all that cat stuff with Wedge... was it foreshadowing? What if... this time Cait Sith is actually with Wedge, sitting on his shoulders? Wedge replaces the moogle robot. I really, really, really don't see them keeping the moogle this time.

Here's how it might go:
Wedge survives at Shinra HQ and end ups captured. We hear the window breaking, but we don't see him dying. There's a reason for that.

So, Reeve makes him work as a double agent. Through Wedge they find out about Marlene and use that to blackmail him. Wasn't Reeves/CS threatening about something happening to Marlene in the original game as well, when CS was exposed?

Now here comes the best part. Remember Wedge's line about him hoping that he can make a difference? Well, he's certainly going to make a difference, when he sacrifices himself in the Temple of the Ancients to get the Black Materia. Cait probably tries to get the materia alone first, but fucks up, and Wedge finishes the mission. Not only do we get a new take on Cait Sith, but we also get to spend more time with Wedge, and in the end he still dies in a way that is tragic and meaningful to the story and his character arc.

If the second Cait comes around later, maybe he just rides Red, but I don't think they need to bring him back. We could just see him later with Reeves himself.

I absolutely would love that. That's the kind of new takes on the original story that I'm really looking forward to, not any alternative timeline shit. They could do some great things with Wedge's inner struggle working as a double agent and they could use Wedge to really flesh out Reeves too.

... FUCK.

I think some of basics of the original journey will be more or less intact, but with some significant changes to reinforce that this a new experience and not the OG remastered. I also had another thought about Jessie's glove recently and why there was only one. Assuming she survived (thanks to the Whispers being defeated and thus, no longer able to keep her from escaping the grenade's blast radius), she may have left Midgar for a while, perhaps to find a way to atone for the bombings, but before doing so, left one glove behind for Biggs as a message both that she was was alive and okay and also to tell him that she would come back someday. He has one, she holds onto the other - not wearing it necessarily, but keeping it with her. In this way, they're a symbol of their friendship and an unspoken promise that they'll eventually see each other again - when they bring the gloves back together, they will be, too.

With Jessie's ties to Avalanche command and her history with the Gold Saucer and the date sequence itself, I would say that it's a fairly good possibility that Jessie's role in the story may grow, especially considering how her popularity within the fanbase has really shot up with the remake. She may even get her own Gold Saucer date with Cloud considering that she once played the Princess in the very play that's a central part of that event. And since she's actually a trained actress, it would probably be a fairly different experience than doing it with Aerith or Tifa, who aren't. And we'd get to learn more about Jessie and her story as well, since the Gold Saucer is where she worked for probably many years and she probably knows people there like Dio and Cait Sith. Though I'd imagine we'd initially meet up with her long before ever actually getting there for the first time.

The giant robo-moogle might be dumb and out of place in a lot of story scenes, but controlling that thing in combat is too exciting to say no to. I want to be fighting a hard boss, with my team against the ropes, when I think, "Only Cait Sith and Mog can save us now..." before switching over to that dumb fucking robot with that dumb fucking look on his face.

That kind of moment is irreplaceable to me.

Opening will be a tutorial with Sephiroth in Nibelheim flashback.

The game's end will be at the end of disc 1. Maybe they'll push Aerith's death back significantly (like until the final game). I'm undecided on that. But I still feel there is an extremely high chance she dies before the end of this series.

Final boss fight will be Sephiroth and Jenova....again.

Moar whisper shit, in the form of Aerith, Red, and Yuffie. Or maybe instead of Aerith, we get Cait Sith.

They'll push back some of the characters appearances. This game doesn't let you interchange party members and only gives you 4. With new materia, bosses, maps, towns...it may be difficult for them to incorporate 5 new characters + let you change party members. I will be sorely disappointed if you can't choose your party in the next game. Cid and Vincent are the most likely to be pushed back.

The date scene will only have two choices- Aerith and Tifa.

The Gold Saucer mini games will be amazing.

Towns will be very basic. They may change up the order when you visit them.

Midgar Zolom, Cokatolis, Adamantaimai, and Yuffie will be boss fights.

I just had the following conversation with my sister:

Me: “Man I can’t wait to have Yuffie, she’s going to be so fun <3”

Sister: “AU!Yuffie?”

Me: blocked&reported for abuse

Sigh… But yeah, there is so much they can do with character interactions with such a diverse cast. Definitely looking forward to it and feeling pretty confident they can deliver on that!
Lol some of your guys' comments are hilarious. I almost spit my coffee out when I read "blocked & reported for abuse"

Talking Dog Best Friend!

Actually, what I would like to see is something that isn't developed at all in the OG, and that is Barret's relationship with Aerith. He is such a fiery, fatherly, protective sort, and without Marlene around for him to dote on and cherish, I can see him instinctively adopting a "Dad role" for a girl who has never had a father. Fireworks will result, since Aerith is not the sort to take kindly to anyone trying to parent her.
I can see him taking that role with her. I love the scenes with him/marlene

I actually thought about the possibility of something like this as well.

Because I keep thinking "part 2 having NINE playable characters with this new battle system that I can mix and match in a party of three? That sounds awesome and too good to be true!"
And then I'm like...maybe it really is too good to be true. Maybe the story alterations made to the rest of the Remake will be less to keep things fresh but really just something to ease their workload and we'll end up with a more limited amount of playable characters and the story will also dictate who will be in your party most of the time. I hope not but I don't think it's entirely out of the question either.

Because...NINE playable characters in a mainline FF? When was the last time that happened?
...oh yeah, a whopping 23 years ago.

I think all 9 will be playable, but not at all times. My guess is they will split off for certain sections, so we'll be forced to choose between 4-5 in one area, then the rest in another. But in certain areas, we could still get all 9 all at once. How that could pan out? I have no clue haha

Given the amount of effort put into Part 1's battle system and gameplay mechanics, I highly doubt they're going to try to cut corners on, of all things, the playable characters. I do not see them attempting to throttle the actual cast of the story, especially since Part 2 is not going to have the same rocky developmental start as part 1. Square isn't going to contract out development to an outside company and then take it back and start over from scratch. It's not even the same situation. Why would they have too much difficulty suddenly developing 9 playable characters? Yeah, it was 23 years ago since they had that many, but FFXIII had 6 playable characters eleven years ago. I don't think they even perceive such a task as a hurdle. It's just something to do.

I wonder if they'd break the 3 party limit? Battles would get really hectic.

Not really. I mean, it happens in Part 1. You fight Jenova with four party members. Red XIII is there too. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they just go for a 4-party system, it's not that difficult given that you're slow-motioning the combat as you choose commands and you're already expected to switch party members anyways.

They could also opt for an FFX/FFXII system that lets you just swap out party members on the fly.

Neither is impossible or unlikely.

I wonder will they show the other 8 members on the screen at all times though. For the remake, I believe the most we had was 4, in ch 2, after the first reactor was destroyed

How did FFXIII and FFXII do overworld traveling when all party members are present (in the narrative and in the same place)? I figure it might be similar to that, where the combat playable characters are present while traveling and then the non-active members just show up during cutscenes and activated dialogue?

I believe 13 showed 3 at once. 12, only 1.

Only one for FFXII? I thought more were showed, maybe I am only remembering the battle scenes then, do the characters just pop out of the lead active character in FFXII when battles start then?
From what I remember, they just pop out once the battle or cut scene starts. Then again, I havent played that game since its original release, so I can't say for sure

Another idea, bear with me:

Assuming part 2 ends at the temple or the Forgotten City, it would mean Cid would join fairly late-ish in the game. In an attempt to avoid another Red XIII situation, the story is changed to have Cid join in Junon instead.
Cid would be there because he's the captain of the Highwind obviously. You manage to witness a confrontation between Rufus and Cid. What it's about is something I'm too lazy to think of :awesome: but it ends in Cid getting fired by Rufus himself and getting on Shinra's bad side. You talk to Cid afterwards and eventually it ends with him tagging along. He might initially just be in until he's back home, kinda like Red.

You get to Rocket Town. You hang out with Shera and Cid in their home and drink your GODDAMN tea.
Shinra comes knocking. No Rufus because why would he bother coming to this rinky dink town, that's what fuckin Palmer is for.

They come to confiscate the Tiny Bronco as per the original but not because they need it (because why would they?) but because he's gotten kind of on their bad side after getting fired and also for tagging along with Cloud so they punish him further by taking away his plane. Also, it was probably Shinra property anyway or something.
Cid's not having it of course and so the team ends up using it to escape and they get shot down just like the OG. And that kids, is the story of How I Met Cid 10 chapters earlier than normal :monster:

I could definitely see Cid popping up earlier in the narrative as like small cameo appearances, and definitely more significant/substantial than the Cait Sith one was in this part. But I don’t think he’ll have his full formal introduction and playable character status accessible until Rocket Town.

I am really looking forward/hoping his arc with Shera gets rewritten to be less awkward/better writing overall, that was one of the major parts of the OG writing that stuck out to me like a sore thumb.

I like speculating and writing theories, so here's my not so serious take on the structure of the next game. I don't think it's very realistic at all if they want to add a major amount of new stuff, but I was bored.

I expect the next game to be around 10-20 hours longer on average than Remake, not counting all optional stuff. If they're going with chapters again, I could see something like this, just the basic structure, nothing too in depth plot wise.

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part two
Final Fantasy VII: Reunion

Chapter 1: Start with the party arriving at Kalm. Nibelheim flashback. Yuffie steals materia and gear during the night.
Chapter 2: Kalm sidequests, Chocobo Farm (which is now a part of Kalm) and the road to Mythril Mines.
Chapter 3: Mines, encounter with the Turks and Yuffie joins the party. No equipment and materia back yet.
Chapter 4: Lower Junon and side quests.
Chapter 5: Junon military base, Turks and the ship.
Chapter 6: Costa del Sol to Corel. A glimpse of Gold Saucer but it's not available yet. Cait Sith joins the party.
Chapter 7: Corel and Barret's and Dyne's story.
Chapter 8: Gongaga and Zack's backstory. This is where you'll see the full scene where he dies.
Chapter 9: Cosmo Canyon and side quests. Red's story.
Chapter 10: Nibelheim. Vincent doesn't join yet (next game)
Chapter 11: Nibelheim mountains.
Chapter 12: Rocket town. Cid joins.
Chapter 13: Arrival to Wutai and Yuffie's story. You get your gear and materia back.
Chapter 14: Wutai and side quests. Lots of new Shinra vs. Wutai stuff.
Chapter 15: Gold Saucer and the date. Side quests and activities.
Chapter 16: Temple of the Ancients. Lots of new stuff plot wise.
Chapter 17: Bone village and Forgotten City. Sephiroth has something new in store for us. Aerith lives.
Chapter 18: Icicle Inn and the great glacier. Some side quests.
Chapter 19: Mountain climbing and Whirlwind Maze.
Chapter 20: Northern Crater and Reunion.
Chapter 21: Escape from the crater. Weapons rise. Meteor is summoned. Sephiroth bad.
Chapter 22: More mindfucks to drive us insane until part three launches.

Why stop there?

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part three
F
inal Fantasy VII: Remembrance

This where I expect to be a major amount of new stuff. I really have no idea what they're going to do here. Let's go!

Chapter 1: Aerith's childhood. Cetra lore. Some Zack stuff.
Chapter 2: Party wakes up at Junon captured. Tifa opens window. Sky is red. Reeve fucks shit up. Escape from Junon and grand theft Highwind.
Chapter 3: Where the hell is Cloud? Tifa goes to Nibelheim. Vincent joins.
Chapter 4: Mideel. Who the hell is Cloud?
Chapter 5: New stuff and side quests
Chapter 6: Cloud gets his shit together.
Chapter 7: Sephiroth fucks shit up.
Chapter 8: Cosmo Canyon and side quests. Huge materia plot starts but it's overhauled.
Chapter 9: Rocket town.
Chapter 10: Let's go to space.
Chapter 11: Junon underwater reactor.
Chapter 12: Deep dive.
Chapter 13: Wutai and side quests.
Chapter 14: Wutai and Huge materia.
Chapter 15: Corel and Huge materia
Chapter 16: Story of the flower girl.
Chapter 17 Forgotten City. Aerith dies.
Chapter 18: Aerith's funeral and the plan to stop all this shit set in motion. Diamond weapon.
Chapter 19: Midgar raid. Lot's of Avalance and Turks stuff.
Chapter 20: Midgar raid continues. Vincent's story. Hojo's last experiment.
Chapter 21: Time to forget the end of the world, breed some chocobos, make love, hit that battle arena and kill some Weapons.
Chapter 22: The plan.
Chapter 23: Northern crater.
Chapter 24: What the hell is this?
Chapter 25: Epilogue and tissues.

Yup there are a few things that the t eam can't really move around I think:

- Aerith must die before Cloud loses his mind
- Every team member must join before Aerith dies because they all knew her and her death is also part of them

So this means that we'll get every team member in the next game. Eventually, I agree that they can move Cid around as they could use the Bronco to make us travel the world more easily from location to location. This would solve some problems for them I think. Maybe they will keep Yuffie for Wutai specifically, IF they change and expend Wutai greatly as I suspect they will. So we'd get her later in the game. Vincent would still be locked in Nibelheim. And for Cait Sith, I think it all depends, but I thought he really fit well in the Gold Saucer because it was crazy to get a cat on a big plushie there. He was like a trophie you could get from those games where you try to pick plushies up, but it fails every time lol.

I do agree on Aerith, but around her I expect most new major plot changes on the next game, whether she lives or dies. So there could be something new to break Cloud. But gameplay wise, they're not going to have the last game with no new playable characters joining. Either there's a totally new character joining in the last game or someone gets moved there.

I don’t think the last Remake installment needs to have a new playable character. Especially if they want to capture how the world opens by the end of the game, the developers will likely want to focus on the world building than additional highly detailed playable characters.
