READ: Nominations Or Nom-Votes?

Okay I've had a handful of people confused by the original plans of TLS Awards 2016 assuming that Round 2 was Nominations and Voting would happen after the fact. I have done my best to try and curtail and head-off any problems that might arise during this process and considering the number of questions about this I've gotten it seems only fair to open this one up to a vote.

Do We Want Phase 2 To Be Nominations (Wherein We'd Move On To A Voting Round) Or NomVotes (Wherein The Winners Of Phase 2 Would Win The Awards)?

Note: If we go with a Nomination Round and then a Voting Round, we won't have the awards out by New Years Day (of course). Rather Phase 3 Voting for each category will begin (I will create multiple threads like last year) and I will give us, say 10 days to vote. (Awards posted on 01/11/16)

This is going to be a simple majority and I will let the vote run until 01/01/16- same deadline as the Phase 2 ending.

I know you're just aiming to please but I think you've given us too many polls already. You could have just said "we're doing nomvotes, it says that clearly in the other thread" and it would have been fine. Lots of people have already voted based on that system so I say stick to the plan.

Believe me Flint, I am 100% down for staying the course. I felt it was worthy of a discussion (belated though it may be) because I am new to this and because the decision to use nomvotes was made:

1. Solely by me (who's this git?)
2. In stark contrast to how this has been done in the past.

Though I appreciate the show of solidarity nonetheless!

Agree with Flint. I'd rather we sick with nomvotes, that's what I had in mind when voting. If we're doing noms only I'll need to review my votes and I don't have time atm.

Next year I'd love to go back to 3 phases

Nomvote is a term that I never heard til I came to TLS but for all intents and purposes it is an open vote. a combination of nomination and vote.

I am of two minds about this.

I'm not bothered by the lack of normal voting, but I do think that's easier.

I don't think we need the deadline to be so soon, but if others do I'm not bothered either way.

I do like the idea of not being able to see vote numbers so that the winner is a surprise at the end. I can't remember who else said this but someone did in a thread. Is there an option to hide results?

^It was Flint in the nomvoting thread itself, and it is indeed a good point - adds some excitement.

There are advantages either way. Multiple choice polls in a phase 3 round allows for a greater spread of votes considering layout (and, at the same time, restrains votes reasonably), but the current system means people are more focused in whom they select - then you could turn around and say the former can sway people's minds with arguments in the corresponding threads (good or bad) whereas the latter lacks finding inspiration from others unless votes are posted publicly (again, good or bad, as the more obvious candidates would pop into your head first, but some things like "Best .gif reply" are harder to think about without some inspiration).

I'm happy with whatever way we go down, but we've already been moving along with the nomvote system, so I reckon we shouldn't overburden your workload and thus stick with that.

Since I'm stupidly puppy-like at heart, if we get to see all the nomvotes at the end rather than just 1st, 2nd and 3rd, that would be nice and, I think, more than justifies the nomvote idea.

I agree with Tenny about the deadline, but again I'm cool with whatever goes down - a shorter deadline might give the push people need [like me, heh-heh]. Are you getting enough votes via PM yet? I should have votes cast soon enough once I'm over my current state of insomnia and general busyness with other things.

So far I recieved 4 votes via PM and the rest of the ones that are in the main voting thread are of course public. I know we got more than like 9 people here so there really could be a swing, but some things are looking pretty set in stone at this point.

I'm confident that no one is going to be nominated for something don't deserve so I don't really feel the need to recreate the wheel and list a jamillion nominations that everyone has already done just to cast a vote. So the latter would absolutely have a higher turnout, I'm pretty sure.

Personally I thought the nom round was the same as it's always been and that a standard set of polls would come out after. Don't see the big hoopla with having it be done RIGHT NOW. Some of us still haven't even done the nomvoting part because takes time having to actually sit and do it. As opposed to polls which are a simple click away from victory.

Yeah pretty much all of these things. I prefer actual voting to nomvoting.

If we get until January 1st to nominate and a week after that to vote, I'd like to change my poll vote to '3 phases'

My only argument to stick with nomvotes was 'already did it, don't have time to edit my noms the next day or two'. Time is everything for me.

I don't know how (or if I even can) manually change it, but that would set us at 12 for Nomvotes 6 for Nominations.
