I've just started watching Black Lagoon and it's awesome, I really recommend it.

In the beginning it feels a little like Cowboy Bebop but as you get more into it it really has its own unique character. None of the characters are possible to hate, there's tons of action, loads of hot women show up (boys will like basically) and all the characters have mysterious pasts yet to explore.

Wow, Black Lagoon is nothing like Bebop. I'm surprised you got that impression. Don't expect the anime to go into the characters' pasts though. Because it doesn't. Even the manga has yet to do so.

Well Dutch feels just like Jet, the tech dude reminds me of Ed with the kind of non-moved over anything persona and Revy is a tomboyish and more vulgar version of Faye. Plus they're all in a boat running about as a crew attached together for the sake of their work when actually they're all pretty attached to each other. And Revy's flashbacks are like Spike's.

But yeah, after the first few episodes that feeling quickly went away.

Don't expect the anime to go into the characters' pasts though. Because it doesn't. Even the manga has yet to do so.

That sucks. I want to know what the hell happened to Revy and what's up with all those white feathers.

On topic: Slayer's Next got 4.5 stars in Neo magazine this month so I may check that out too.

Gintama and Detroit Metal City are pretty funny, though they don't have any real plot.

I also really liked Welcome to the NHK, Ergo Proxy, and I'm sure there's more I haven't listed. A little tired.

Hmm, let's see.

Law of Ueki is a series I'm currently watching. It's basically DBZ, but the main character can make trees. Shit gets crazy in the second season, and a bit more like DBZ, but it's still pretty neat.

Detroit Metal City is a show about a death metal band. Not much for plot, but it's pretty fucking funny. It's also really short, you could finish it in a day.

Welcome to the N.H.K. is crazy and wtf, but it's pretty good.

One Outs is basically a show about baseball, but the main character is a gambler and has crazy plannings for winning. It's a great show, definitely worth a try.

Baccano! - To be fair, I've only seen one episode, but it seems like it'll be decent. Good animation.

Shite, I can't think of anything else right now.

I did read the thread. I really only saw mention of Detroit Metal City and N.H.K., and they didn't give much info. Besides, more people recommending something has a higher chance of it being decent.

There's no point in repeating what's already been said. It's nice that you seem to think that was just for you though. Cute.

'Folks' is a word for people. I am a person, therefore I was included. You shouldn't make threads if you don't want replies.

I suppose nothing less should be expected of someone like you.

And thus, you should have read the thread first.
"You folks"

That's you.

"should read the thread before posting"

That's the instruction.

"so as to not repeat recommendations."

And that's the reason. In short, it means DO NOT MAKE REPEAT SUGGESTIONS.

Can I be more blunt with that?

My, my, Ryu. Hero of the day, I see.

That has nothing to do with my response, but feel free to read it as such.
Once again, I was giving a little more detail. The two previous posts did not give much info. There's nothing wrong with what I wrote.

Where you fit into this, I don't know. I suppose you have a need to force your opinion in every possible thread.

It has everything to do with your response, unless your mention of folks was completely tangential to Dac's usage.

Except the whole part where you repeated suggestions.

Ha, ha, you're quite fun, you know. So what was the point of you replying to me? That I was a bad boy and broke the rules?

Congratulations, big man. I feel utterly ashamed and humiliated. I think I'm going to go cry to my mommy real quick. Your text is too powerful for me, etc.

Afroken is pretty cute. Plotless, but rather cute too. Though I've only seen one episode subbed.

durrr. Yeah, I don't want replies to my thread. haw.
I suppose nothing less should be expected of someone like you.

I suppose some reading comprehension is too much to expect from someone like you.

I don't want people repeating the same crap over and over versus recommending something less well known or hasn't been mentioned yet, because a lot of us have more than likely already seen or know about it either because it's popular, or because people have already suggested it. I don't mind giving more info on something that's already been brought up if people want it.

Is that too much to ask? I suppose so.

I have a few reccs that I didn't see mentioned here, but note that I haven't followed any series that have come out in the last 5 years or so. Unless manga counts. Plus most of these a saw a long ass time ago.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Summary: Romance/Drama. Girl discovers she has the ability to time travel, and uses said ability to solve her everyday problems. That is, until things start fucking up. Badly.
Watch it!: Great animation by Madhouse, and the story is just touching. While it is dramatic the drama never seems forced or over the top. It's won several awards from what I know, as well.

Paprika
Summary: Sci-fi/drama/crazy. Psychiatrist uses device to see into patients dreams. Crazyness ensues.
Watch it!: Once again, wicked animation by Madhouse and it's directed by Satoshi Kon, who's pretty much awesome. Psycho animation and psycho soundtrack.

Serial Experiments Lain
Summary: Mindfuck. Lain recieves an email from a girl at school, a girl who comitted suicide, saying that she lives on in "The Wired." Kind of a weird series to summarize since much of it is... abstract, to say the least.
Watch it!: An odd series, and a little depressing at times. But since a lot of people look for series similar to Evangelion, this is probably it.

Reccord of Lodess War
Summary: Fantasy. Six warriors fight against evil. Yeah!
Watch it!: I saw this one a very long time ago, when I was super into Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and the like. It may not have aged well... considering it was made way back in 1990 and I was probably like 9 or 10 when I saw it back '99-'00 lol. Nonetheless, it made a real impact on me, and to this day it just sticks out in my mind.

Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango)
Summary: Romance/Comedy/Drama. Tsukushi Makino is a poor girl who attends the most elite private school in Japan. Her tuition eats at her family's income, and they live in terrible conditions. At school she cannot fit in, being the only poor girl among kids from Japans wealthiest, most powerful families. When Tsukushi does not fawn over the hottest boys of school like everyone else (The F4, or Flower Four... yes I know :monster: ), the group's leader takes it upon himself to make her life a living hell...
Watch it!: Well, there's an anime and 3 different drama series based on this but I've only read the manga myself. I have to say... this is probably the trashiest, mindless and entertaining shoujo manga I have ever read. It's just so entertaining! According to wiki, Hana Yori Dango is the top selling shoujo series of all time and I can see why. Trashy trashiness at its best.

I forgot I had even watched them before you reminded me.

NHK is one of my all time favourites, I'm pretty sure I had mentioned watching it though.
I'm not really into all that DBZ roid rage style anime, I prefer to go for more story mood based anime, and most action anime just tend to replay scenes over and over. Drives me round the bend that does, but still with knocking out an episode a week I guess you have to recycle animtion.

I just finished Pandora Hearts, and I have to say it was a good watch, the plot developed well though out although there were a few slow patches but nothing bad compared to other series's. The character development was very good you can really notice changes in personality through out. I really liked alot of the connections to Lewis Carrols Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass although not so apparat at the start they do appear through out the series, most of the chains are based on the novels characters.
I jut hope they release a second series as the first didn't really tie up the story, more left it half way through, and frankly I want more.
I thought more people would have watched this anime on this forum as it's related to square enix

heres the synopsis anyway

Pandora Hearts Synopsis said:
Oz Vessalius, heir to one of the duke houses, has just turned fifteen. His life is rich and carefree, darkened only by the constant absence of his father. At his coming-of-age ceremony, however, everything changes. For no reason that he can discern, he's cast into the prison known as the "Abyss", only to be saved by a "chain" known as Alice, the bloodstained black rabbit. Why was he cast into Abyss, how does Alice factor into it all, and what does the organization known as "Pandora" want with him...?

heres a trailer anyway

Also I've just finished the first series of Spice & Wolf. I quite enjoyed it, not one for all you action buffs really as its more story based but definetly worth a watch.

Spice & Wolf Synopsis said:
Based of the manga Okami to Koshinryo by Isuna Hasekura. Spice and Wolf is about a 25 year old peddler name Craft Lawrence who finds a mysterious and beautiful girl named Horo sleeping in the back of his wagon. He is surprised to find that the girl has ears and a tail and howls when she wakes up. He soon learns that she is the harvest god of the nearby village Pasroe and she wants to return to homeland in the north called Yoitsu. Horo manages to get Lawrence to take her with him and in turn helps him earn more then he did before. Little do they know, the church is watching the two very closely

There are two seasons out at the moment I'm currently half way through the second but I couldn't find a trailer for the first, so heres a trailer for the second.

Then another Anime I have been watch is Le Portrait de Petite Cossette, apparantly it has been dubbed now although when I watched it I wasn't aware of this. It's only three episodes but the animation is very well done, although maybe a bit ropey in places. I have still yet to watch the third episode though as I was a bit more into the other two.

Le Portrait de Petite Cossette Synopsis said:
Kurahashi Eiri, the proprietor of an antique shop, has recently acquired a fascinating wineglass. It becomes his constant obsession and he spends increasing amount of time looking at it and talking to it. There is more to meet the eye (obviously!) as a young lady named Cossette resides within it. Her demise is closely related to Eiri, and uncovering the secret will eventually bring about his demise.

There two are definitely worth the watch, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time has such a good plot, somthing about it reminded me of Studio Ghibli's work. And Paprika is pretty intense, absolutly amazing animation.

Bakemonogatari is a good anime. I recommend it to all. It looks a bit crazy and is basically just based on conversations between characters and violence. But with a weight eating crab and a demon hand gone wrong, why not watch it? :monster:

This is an opening from it STAPLE STAPLEEEE.

^The most amazing opening ever.

I am absolutely in love with this Anime. *O* I've made it past the second season now, and I am absolutely addicted to the show. It pokes fun at a lot of things (including Yaoi fangirls, which was basically like looking into a mirror... man I realized how sad I am.. O WELL >=D) such as society, phrases, video games, other Animes, depression, etc... highly amusing in fact, I've never laughed so much watching a show before. :awesome: I really love the art style, and I love the varieties of art styles during the show, and for the OP/ED. Anime OP/ED are usually bleeh to me, but these ones are actually INTERESTING and the music is quite catchy. :3

Here's wiki if you want to read about the plot (which... really, there isn't one... well there is but it's rather silly. :awesome:)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, so I'll go.

Haibane Renmei

The pace is slow, it's a short series, and the ending tends to make people feel dissatisfied with it, but I actually loved it. It has a certain something that I love. A bit of a summary: A young girl "is born" from a cocoon in a world where people have wings and halos (they are called "Haibane"). She knows she has had a life before that one, yet she does not remember it.

One good thing about it is that it doesn't really explain you lots of the mysteries about the series, and makes you actually theorize about what the city of Glie/Guri is.

Oh, and character design (and history, and everything) is made by the same guy who designed Serial Experiment Lain's characters, so yeah.
