Remake article ideas/organising

It might be interesting to keep a log of rumours and "insider" stuff, and when it's released, see what was right

(whenever they have a playabe demo of FFVII at E3 in the future we totally need to be there and report, we know E3 is a possibility for us, we should try again right? o.o)

Adding to this, I somehow forgot that Gamescom is a pretty big thing as well and it's super close, too.
Probably too late for this year but I should have a look at what their process is for applying for a press pass (although unlike E3, one could always get in as an ordinary peasant since that's what Gamescom is for :monster: )

Yeah; on AC.net there was something like a rumor / idea box on the front page; I would've liked someone to open that one up and just go through all of it to see who had it right.

That's a good idea Pixel. We should make a catch-all thread for rumours and insider info like the catch-all thread for interviews, to keep it all in one place.

I'm looking forward to the article Tets. You should try to apply for a press pass for Gamescom.

Okay, there's now a draft of that thing on Wordpress. I wanna add images and I have marked some of the spots but I haven't added them yet.

If anyone wants to preview it, proofread it or has any suggestions to make or tell me it's crap then now is the time. :wackymonster:

Also, I guess the sources should also be added.

I enjoyed reading that.

I don't really have any notes, other than try to make sure images are evenly spaced throughout the article so it doesn't feel so much like a wall of text (I saw your placement for those and they look good though), remember to add an excerpt (you always forget to do that :P), featured image, categories, tags and SEO. Text wise it's well written so I don't have anything to say about that (other than I enjoyed reading it).

Yes, link to sources. And at the very end, add a link to either the remake section or an appropriate thread. In fact just before you publish, create a thread about that article and link to it XD.

I should probably go through and close all the old remake rumour threads now that I think about it, you could add a small mention of them and link to the section for the sake of lulz. It's up to you though.

Which category does this belong in?

Also, I added images and such in the meantime.

Edit: Ah shit, I need to add more stuff. I completely forgot to mention how a lot gaming news sites reported the remake was happening right before E3 started as well as some stuff they mentioned in regards to G-Bike. That seems rather important to include in this. :wacky:

Tetsujin that article was perfectly delicious. Must have taken so much work to arrange everything into such a neat timeline. You win.

Agreed. That article was great, and the research very impressive. Well done, Tets.

Also, I love this:

I already said a brief thank you to Tets for that article when it first went up, but after reading it in full yesterday, I'd like to go further than that. With no disrespect to our other contributors, I think it might be the best, or at least most enjoyable, article we've published since the remake announcement. Really good work. Whatever it is we're paying you, we should double it. :salute:

I really enjoyed reading it too. I had time to sit and read the whole thing slowly today and it was a nice trip down memory lane. Of course, the only reason the trip was nice was because the remake has been announced, otherwise it would just have been frustrating :monster:

Believe me, I got frustrated all over again when I re-read some of that bullshit during the research "FFVII WOULD TAKE TEN YEARS GAIZ!" Really, Kitase? I guess we should expect the remake in 2024 then. :monster:

There's this other idea I had - it's more related to the OG but relevant to the remake as well I guess?
You know how people still often believe Midgar is literally stuck in eternal night due to pollution and stuff? I thought about maybe doing an article debunking this myth with all the visual clues from the OG and the compilation that show this is not the case. :monster:

I mean, the remake teaser straight up shows it in daylight but even then a lot of people mistake that for Edge in the future (which I did as well initially but that was more due to the architecture and shit :monster: )

That could be fun... like Final Fantasy Mythbusters

There's more that I found in terms of info:

First off, funnily enough, you all talked about this back in 2009

The general consensus of all the threads I've seen is what you said, Tetsujin- pollution is bad. I'm racking my brain trying to find an official explanation.

I seem to recall a line of dialogue where somebody said that the people in the slums never got to see the light of day, and it was specifically slumlings. That would seem to indicate that people on the plate saw the sun once in a while.

Midgar_High_Quality_Wallpaper_by_wingsofwar.jpg

In this shot you can see the moon through a gap in the clouds. If it's clear enough that you can see the moon clearly (no pun intended), then the sun would have no problem shining.

DiamondWeapon-ffvii-fmv-hit.png

Overcast, but clearly day time. While WEAPON may be just in the wastelands and while WEAPONS certainly are massive, this beast is within a few miles of the city. Any pollution effects would extend out to the entire area.

Lastly the argument that "it gets dark when you approach Midgar on the world map". Yes, because there is smog and pollution. But it gets overcast... not eternal black of night. It's like them saying that people in 1800s London (or modern day Detroit) required lanterns everywhere they went because there was no sun.

There's also the "flowers in the church" counter argument... but I don't know that there's enough traction to support that one, only because there are nocturnal flowering plants and the lamps that light up the slums could theoretically provide vitamin D rich light... I don't know why they would, but it could happen.

I get the criticism, but development tools have come a long way since the release in 1997. A lot more stuff is automated now than was back then.

Somebody do it please, I've been wanting something like this but didn't know it until Tets brought it up XD.

Everybody going on about "omg daylight that's a total retcon" when it isn't has been bugging me.

I'm making this post as a reminder to myself as anything: I intend to publish the full survey results in their own article, now that the podcast has been out for a couple of days. Hopefully, I'll have time to do it tomorrow.

Is it too late to submit results to the survey? :slowpoke: If so it's not really a big deal, since it's my fault for waiting so long :monster:

Yeah, the survey closed over a week ago. :P Feel free to post your "answers" in the survey thread (or one of our other remake threads) if you want. There were five topics: reaction, setting & plot, gameplay, graphics & audio, and other.
