Returning to fan-fiction...

Hi :)

I'm returning to writing fan-fiction after 12 years (thanks to a mixture of Remake induced nostalgia and lockdown induced boredom) and was just wondering what your favourite platforms are for reading? I always used fanfiction.net and will continue to do so, however the interface doesn't seem to have changed at all since I last used it in 2008 and the formatting restrictions are killing me already. I've requested an A03 account as I've seen this mentioned, but was wondering if there's any other places you guys like to read your fan-fic?

If you're interested, I mainly ship Reno/Tifa (it's an obscure ship to sail, don't get me wrong) and am currently working on a re-write of a fic I published in 2007. I purged my fanfiction.net account back when I was 19 and not much survived the cull, but I will still continue to add to it while I'm writing. You can find it here. My aim is to write my own novel, but fanfiction is a nice way to flex the creative muscles when artist's block sets in.

I always post stuff up on Ficwad, along with FF.net and AO3. But to be honest Ficwad is quite naff and I don't think it gets much traffic these days.

Kudos to you for picking back up the pen, I miss it, need to do the same :monster:

I keep my old account of FF.net, yet got a new one on AO3. Funny enough, I thought the FFXV fandom was barely nonexistent on ff.net, yet I get more visits and more comments on my novelization on ff.net than on AO3.

Many people post on their Tumblr accounts, but after the two major purges in the last years it seems the platform it's on its way down (during quarantine there was no spike in activity, and that says it all.) Another option is Wattpad, but I've never used it.

Speaking of formatting, ff.net is indeed a headache, unless you upload the doc into the platform. AO3 is far more flexible, though I fear I still need to get used to the site.

All in all, welcome back to the fanfict writing world :monster:

Thanks! I'd not heard of A03 until today but glad to see it's a popular recommendation. I only ever posted on FF.net previously, and a lot of the sites I used to obsess over back in my fangirl days are sadly no longer operating.

Kudos to you for picking back up the pen, I miss it, need to do the same :monster:

It's definitely filling a Remake Part 2 induced void but I warn you now, re-reading things you wrote when you were 19 is not for the faint hearted :fearful:
