Rick & Morty (Season 4 starts November 2019)

So just watched the last 5 eps of season 2.

Really, really solid. Though I didn't enjoy Interdimensional Cable as much as season one. Also... WHY THE FUCK DOES THIS SHOW MAKE ME TEAR UP?!!?! Jesus, god damn season finale... It secretly makes you care about these characters with it's crazy ridiculous universe, then WHAM! The feels.

I have to agree with you on all those points. I follow one of the assistants and one of the storyboard artists on tumblr, and they have a great time working out all the heart-wrenching stuff. (They have a great set of songs to rip at your soul this season).

Spoiler: Insofar as their family though

I really like that Rick & Morty are from a different reality, Jerry MIGHT'VE been swapped out, but Beth & Summer are still from the same reality for now. Also- there's a strong bit of foreshadowing that the eyepatch Morty was Rick's original Morty -- hence the big personal vendetta, as well as Rick having memories of holding a baby Morty, despite the fact that Morty is 14, and Beth said he'd been gone for 20 years in the first episode. And despite all that, none of them ever feel disposable, even after the "one free Morty coupon" and ways you know that they COULD be replaced.

I think that the way that they reveal changes and use story mechanics in complex and dark ways without pulling punches is what makes it so great.


And yay for Mr. Poopybutthole being alive and recovering and fourth wall breaking to torture us.
