Has the same disclaimer as the other SaGa stuff I've done, in that I don't know the context very well. And can I just say how disappointed I am with the SaGa Wikia site. I use the FF Wikia when doing stuff which usually helps a lot when I need a reference for what the English names are (except those times when someone just seems to have plugged the English localized name into Google Translate and stuck it there like it's actually correct, annoying). There should be a more thorough resource, for my sake.

i am cycling three things at the moment (these 15th anniversary things which will be over soon > turks novel > this), so when i've updated the novel i will be doing another part of this. by which i mean more of what i was working on before, the pages with the timeline going through the middle

to clarify, i have only been doing pages 26 and 27 (as the scans are numbered). i haven't picked out any pages beyond those, since not knowing about this game i don't really know what would be more significant so just go though it from start to finish.

Quell [Arts] were introduced to the north with the migration of the southern tribes, and merged with the ancient civilization. Numerous states were born and absorbed. And a grand empire that adeptly incorporated [arts culture] appeared, establishing [Arts civilization].

■帝国建国 BS400年～紀元年
クヴェルの流入により混迷が深くなっていた東大陸の中原に、都市国家ハンは存在していた。ハンは巧みにクヴェル術を取り入れ勢力を拡大していく。中原統一、王国化を経てメルシュマンを掌握し、グラン・タイユに軍を侵攻させる。そして、グラン・タイユの最後の王国を下したとき、東大陸のほぼ全土を版図とする巨大帝国が出現した。ここに暦が制定され、ハン帝国は建国される。
■BIRTH OF THE EMPIRE – B.S. 400 ~ First Year
In the central plains of the eastern continent, which had found itself deeper in disarray with the influx of Quell, there existed the city state of Hahn. Hahn had skilfully assimilated Quell [Arts] and expanded its influence. They took over the whole plain and formed a kingdom, took control of Merchmin, and sent their army into Gran Taiyu. And when the final kingdom of Gran Taiyu surrendered, a grand empire appeared that had almost all of the eastern continent as its territory. Here the calender was adopted, and the Hahn Empire was founded.


■帝国の繁栄と崩壊 紀元年～465年
ハン帝国は優秀な官僚と、英知に優れたカリスマ的な皇帝の存在により繫栄がもたらされた。しかし五賢帝時代の終焉と共に肥大した帝国という肉体は次第に腐敗し朽ち果てていく。支配層による収奪は次々と強化され非支配層の負担は日を追う毎に苛酷さを増していく。それは当然のように民衆の激しい抵抗を呼び、帝都では活性化能力が低下。そして、民衆の反乱を機に帝国は衰退し465年に崩壊したのである。　
■THE EMPIRE FLOURISHES AND FALLS – First Year ~ 465
The Hahn Empire prospered due to its skilled bureaucrats and its wise and charismatic emperor. However with the end of the era of the five great emperors the Empire began its steady descent to corruption and decay. The exploitation by the ruling classes was gradually intensified, and the burden felt by the non-ruling classes grew harsher with each passing day. This naturally invoked a backlash from the people, and productivity in the Imperial capital was reduced. And with the people's revolt the Empire fell into decline and in 465 collapsed.

ツールの浸透によって成熟した社会は、新たな不安定要因を浮かび上がらせた。それは富の集権化による大国の再構築であり、新たな戦乱を呼ぶ可能性が飛躍的に高まったのである。さらにもう一つの不安定要因として、一般社会から切り離された人々がいた。つまり術を使えない人々…術不能者の不満の増大であった。
The society which had matured through the permeation of Quell gave rise to new elements of instability. This was the rebuilding of major nations through the centralisation of wealth, and the greatly increased possibility of a new war breaking out. One more destabilising element was the people who had been cut off from general society. Those who were unable to use [Arts] and their increasing dissatisfaction.

■ツール術文明の成熟　1200年代
ツールの発展による社会の再編成のなか、術に見放された人々は同じ術不能者でありながら、東大陸を制覇したギュスターヴ13世の出現により、術に代わる技術を手に入れる。それは失われた技術「鉄の技術」である。鉄は術の効力を一切受けない。鉄による軍備は術による軍に対抗できる手段であり、術文明を破壊できる可能性を秘めていた技術であった。こうして、鉄の台頭は術文明にとって、大きな転換期となっていくのである。

■Maturation of [tool arts] civilization – 1200's
Within the reorganization of society with the expansion of tools, those people who had been forsaken by [arts] gain a technology to substitute it due to the appearance of Gustave the 13th, who had conquered the eastern continent while also being unable to use [arts]. This was the lost technology of 'iron'. Iron was completely unaffected by [arts]. Armaments forged with iron offered a method to rival those of [arts], and had within it the potential to destroy [arts] civilization. And thus the rise of iron because a major turning point for [arts] civilization.

帝国崩壊による民の流出は、帝国に独占されていた術知識の流出でもあった。南大陸へ移住した者たちは、過酷な環境のため存在していなかったクヴェルの代用品を開発する。人の手によって作り出された新たな術は、人の生活と国のあり方を大きく変化させていった。
The outflow of citizens following the collapse of the Empire was also an outflow of knowledge of Arts that the Empire had monopolised. The migrants to the southern continent developed a substitute for Quell, which did not exist in the harsh environment of the south. This new Arts created by the hands of man would greatly change the way people lived.

■支配体制の変化　４００～７００年代
帝国の崩壊はサンダイルの大地に混乱を招く。多くの民は混迷を深くする中原を避け、各地へ移住をはじめた。東大陸の南方では流入にした知識層によって国としての体制が確立し、新たな王制へ移行していく。北方では帝国の旧支配層が再編され、いくつかの国家が成立。支配層と非支配層との誓約による統治がなされる。また、南大陸では旧帝国の支配層の流入により、新たな枠組みでの国家が建国された。
■Change to the ruling system 400~700
The collapse of the Empire brought confusion to the land of Sandail. Many people avoided the growingly chaotic central plains, and began to migrate to other areas. In the southern area of the eastern continent, the influx of intellectuals established a nation, and shifted towards monarchy. In the north the former ruling classes of the Empire was reformed, and several states were formed. They were ruled based on a pledge between the ruling classes and non-ruling classes. There were also new states founded with a new framework on the southern continent by the influx of the ruling classes from the former empire.

■南大陸での術の発展　８００，９００年代
南大陸には術は存在していなかった。南大陸へ移住した人々は持ち込んだクヴェルの力で、この大陸に新たな時代をもたらした。そして、クヴェルが存在しない大地でそれに頼らない術の発展が促進され、その結果クヴェルの代用品であるツールが開発される。安価なツールはクヴェルを持つことのできない庶民層に浸透し、新たな術社会が出現したのである。この南大陸で発達した術は一般術（General Art）と呼ばれ、全社会へ広がった。
■Growth of Arts on the southern continent 800, 900
On the southern continent, arts did not exist. The people who migrated there used the power of Quell they had brought with them, and brought forth a new era for this continent. And with the promotion of the development of an arts that did not rely on Quell, non-existent in this land, a substitute for Quell was developed—Tools. Low-cost Tools permeated the common people who could not possess Quell, and a new arts society appeared. The arts that grew here on the southern continent were known as General Art, and spread to all societies.

■ツール術文明の成熟　１０００～１１００年代
帝国崩壊の影響を引きずりいたま平定されない東大陸には小国家が乱立していた。幾多の国家の興亡は戦乱を呼び、混迷は深くなっていく。その背景には南大陸で開発されたツールの、東大陸への流入があった。ツールは戦術の多様化を呼び、軍事力の増強につながったのである。しかも、安価なツール術の浸透は庶民層の生活をも豊かにし、社会全体としては文明が成熟し発展繁栄の時代を迎えていた。
■Maturation of Tool Arts civilization 1000~1100
In the eastern continent, where the influence of the Empire's collapse had dragged on leaving it still unsubjugated, there was an upsurge in the number of small nation. The foundation and collapse of many nations caused wars to break out, and deepened the turmoil. The inflow of Tools to the southern continent introduced a diversity to military tactics, leading to the strengthening of military power. Further, the permeation of low-cost Tool Arts enriched the lives of the common people, with society as a whole maturing and bringing about an age of growth and prosperity.

that should be the first part of the timeline section done. after some cleaning up of the text, maybe the creation of graphics or something, that should be it done.


i hadn't planned on having a continued role on the project to be frank, not being familiar with the game at all. i wanted to help out to get it up and running, but assumed someone else would eventually step up and take over.

Of course it is up to you whether or not you want to continue. But it would be a real shame for the project to be abandoned now. I wanted this to be a collaborated effort between our big three; you, Tres, and Ryu, but that's not really happening like I thought it would. Instead of a separate sentiment of 'uh I guess I'll get a few pages', there should be a organized hand off sort of thing going on where its easy to organize, and involved.

I'm gonna try and get to the pages I picked out this week, but things have been quite hectic IRL. Lots of frantic friends to calm down and the like.

i would carry on with it. i suppose i thought it would have taken off more by now, meaning i could step down without it being so much of disruption. not that i'm saying that to guilt people into doing it or anything, i'm just conscious of the other things i have started that are still unfinished that i would like to complete. from the look of this book so far it's a lot more dense as far as volume of text goes, compared to some other game related books. the next pages in this timeline section for example, those are a lot more wordy than most timeline sections in books i've done or seen more (i think this is a 'perfect works' things perhaps, as iirc xenogears' had a lot of words as well).

i will have a proper look at the scans so far, i hadn't even unzipped them yet and only had the first two batches, and try to pick out some smaller sections to chip away at the overall workload. i'll still finish this timeline section, since i started it (p. 26~34). so anyone else looking at it can move on to other parts
