Bullpies. This forum has set parameters, a goal, and topic that the owners and staff want to keep it in line with. It's not a ship that just drifts wherever the winds take it.

Yeah but by that logic, the site and forums need some new exciting and innovative features. Which people just haven't been bothering to come up with. So, staying with the ship analogy, the ship is sinking because the captain and crew haven't been bothered enough, and don't care enough to fix the holes in the hull during rough seas :monster:

By that logic, this forum should probably just become a GC forum, or hell...a Naruto forum, if a majority of members come here and somehow start becoming interested in Naruto.

Irrelevant response is irrelevant =/

It's not 'conform to what the majority is doing', but rather 'what can we do to make the currently most active area more active, while also thinking of ways to boost activity in the less active areas?' You make it sound like something tiny like a shoutbox is omfg going to unmake FF.

Okay. But what are you gonna do when Final Fantasy eventually ends? Because, as hard as it is to comprehend, it will.

....FF has gone on for 20 years. I doubt it's ending anytime soon.

How is a shoutbox...going to attract new members, or get people to post somewhere?

FCF has far more activity than TLS and it has a shoutbox :monster:

Just as long as things don't start getting more strict or even taken away in other sections that apparently 'more people' visit and post, just to save the highlight (FF) section of the site.

I don't want to see unnecessary rules and strictness, no.

You're right.

It's not 'conform to what the majority is doing', but rather 'what can we do to make the currently most active area more active, while also thinking of ways to boost activity in the less active areas?' You make it sound like something tiny like a shoutbox is omfg going to unmake FF.

Our priority and goal is Final Fantasy. Everything else is secondary. We want to boost activity in the less active areas (Final Fantasy) and everything else is second after that. A shoutbox is unnecessary and not worth the time. Seriously, a shoutbox most likely isn't going to happen.

Okay. But what are you gonna do when Final Fantasy eventually ends? Because, as hard as it is to comprehend, it will.

Considering that the biggest site devoted to the Chrono series (Chronocompendium), which features two and a half decade old games is more active and evolving than this one (which focuses on a series that introduces new games annually and is still going strong), that is not really a concern at this point.

LOL, not exactly
Well, yeah pretty much exactly

FCF:

TLS:

Granted, this probably doesn't have much to do with the Shoutbox, but the statistics don't lie :monster:

Most of that is chit chat and/or spam, rather than relevant FF discussion, which is the activity we're looking for. We're going for quality not quantity.

And you're right, it probably is unrelated to a chatbox, so no u :monster:

I can't count the number of threads here that are a direct result of MSN convos. Also, people like to join into interesting conversation. If the only people that can participate in said shoutbox are members...I'm sure you can do the math.

It may not fix all the holes in the ship, but neither will it poke any more. And leaks in a ship during a storm aren't fixed by talking alone, but by putting ideas into action.

Also, some increase in activity > none at all. Some can lead to the kind you want, etc

Like I said, the 'it won't hurt but it probably won't help either uh wait it might help a little' route isn't the direction we really want to take. At this point we're looking for something definitively Final Fantasy.

I doubt most of the convos on a chat box are gonna be on FF and branch into a thread topic. Since..if someone has an interesting topic they want discuss on FF, they usually just start a thread on it and go from there. Furthermore, I've never heard of a member trying to join a forum just to post on a chat box, unless it was to harass someone they knew there already. Especially since a chatbox is transient and just rolls according to whoever posts recently.

Not really, since most people will then just stick to dicking around on the chat box instead of even posting, since they won't have to worry about waiting for someone to reply to their conversation they're having via PM or on the forum. Going by the chat boxes I've seen before, they've usually just been people chit chatting.

That's the closest I've heard to an admission that staff don't care about activity if it doesn't relate to Final Fantasy.

Which, to be honest, says it all.

You can't say what a shoutbox will do to activity until you've tried adding one. At worst, if everyone agrees it detracts from the forum, you can remove it again. Not adding one just because a few people on staff don't think it'll add anything to the board will just look obstructionist.

Yeah, somehow I seriously doubt a member has gone

"NO CHAT BOX?! THIS IS BULLSHIT!!!"

When they've viewed our forum. If anything, the activity drop is again, because the Compilation is on hiatus, and there's not much news and shit, like there was when ACC came out, and Dissidia. And also people who dicked around here, are not just dicking around elsewhere :monster:

I'd say the unshakable conviction without being open to the possibility that you're mistaken has something to do with it.

And even this isn't really a good reason because Chrono Compendium is kicking our asses and usually always has been. They're a very dedicated community that sticks to the sites goals, and they're very successful because of it.

Yeah, because we so haven't been open and tried various other ideas like moving to VB, Teams, Social Groups, the Roleplay Forum, the Venue, General Fuckery, and the other shit members have put forth, right? :monster:

even if it adds more members to the forums, it will just be like FCF's shoutbox (the only other 1 i have seen) which would be stupid. Seeing people chatting like MSN, not everyone wants to see that at the bottom of the page everytime they log in.
