Activity is dropping because we're not focusing enough on Final Fantasy.

Yeah you go on telling yourself that. I was by far this site's most active member and I really couldn't care less what you do related to final fantasy, because guess what, I've completely lost interest in the series. And seeing the inane quality of all non-Final Fantasy-related discussion at this board has inspired me to contribute almost exactly zero time to it.

Also, Lost has been on hiatus for far longer than FFVII news has, and the forums at Lost's Spoiler-tv have actually been buzzing with activity because every few weeks or so the staff come up with a new community project for everybody to get involved in. This generates a constant buzz of activity and excitement, and actually encourages new members to join up to get involved. So, I'm not sure what TLS' excuse is for letting activity drop to the extent that it has.

Granted, it doesn't have a shoutbox either.

even if it adds more members to the forums, it will just be like FCF's shoutbox (the only other 1 i have seen) which would be stupid. Seeing people chatting like MSN, not everyone wants to see that at the bottom of the page everytime they log in.

I don't see why you can't try to raise activity in Final Fantasy sections, while simultaneously doing whatever you can to raise activity in other sections as well. Of course not. We want to raise activity everywhere, but lately almost all of the suggestions we've been taking to raise activity have nothing to do with Final Fantasy. We want to shift from that. Raising activity everywhere is something we want, but right now, Final Fantasy is what is most important and the biggest priority right now by far.

If the site was clearly (to the viewer) based on FF, i would not visit (..yay?) but honestly, its all these other sections that make me read, i read more in other sections than i do FF sections, tbh the main things people post about is FF7, but its grown old and the next thing up is FF13, but you'd be silly to make a site about that, theres plenty others to visit. I sense you are going to ruin this.

Now that's actually a good idea. Care to share what type of project you have in mind, or they implemented? We've thought about something similar but we're unsure of exactly what type of forum wide project people will actually particpate in. An art contest with a prize of some sort every so often might work, but as Yop stated, not everyone here is an artist.

Bullshit. Dacon posted comic after comic in the Comic Team. And people were actively posting and shit in the Venue. It just wasn't enough to sustain itself. I'm not sure exactly what you see as lack of effort, when members of our staff were contributing and posting in said teams.

You all give in too easily. Like the teams thing there, Mako. Yeah, there was activity but it wasn't enough to sustain itself. Now I ask you - what was done to try to boost that activity before scrapping the sections? Give things more than a couple of weeks (teams was less than a month, I think, though I could be mistaken), and give people some incentive to give a damn and you might have a winner.

Either way, I'm done trying to be useful. You've shown how much you care about your site.

That's because - shock and awe - most of us couldn't care less about Final Fantasy. We come here because we like chatting to the people who use the forum. But since staff have done basically fuck all lately to encourage good conversation out of the Final Fantasy sections, there really isn't any incentive for most of us to even bother continuing to come. But hey, if you want your site activity to wither away further, be my guest.

I really think a chat box that you click a link on and it opens a new window or something would be good. I agree shout boxes can be annoying on every single page, but just a chatbox on a separate page couldn't hurt.

Always? No, not exactly, at least in my experience. Yes, there are times when that happens, but according to the majority of the forums I visit that do have chatbox's, it really hasn't been all that big of a deal. It really just depends on your forum community, what type of people you have and what precautions are in place for those members who do act up.

With that said, I'm going to bow out of this, because I've said everything I've needed to say. Remember, it's not up to just me. It's not like 'the buck stops with mog'. I am just one Staff member that happens to agree with a notion here. The Staff will continue to discuss FF related ways to get activity back up.
