So whats next for FFVII?

Well that doesn't work because the fanclubs would have to have members, and they'd have to kill all of them. My point is that the fanclubs probably weren't part of the plot proper anyway. It was just SE having fun. And I can't think of one NPC, not even SOLDIERs on their floor in HQ mentioning Genesis (just from memory of course, not stating that as fact). I know a few of them mention Angeal...

For example, Tres' article mentions the Emerald Weapon lookalike a few times as a moment of real stupidity for Shinra. Isn't that just an Easter Egg? Something neat for players to find? Not actually an important piece of the plot. Are we to think Zidane actually knows Cloud due to his comments in the Lindblum weapon shop too?

Square should absolutely be more careful, but at the same time I don't think they should have to stop and think about the far-reaching implications of every single little fun detail they want to sprinkle in the background or inconsequential dialogue now and then.

Though this goes without saying, about the stupidity of sniper guns being scattered across the landscape for Zack to use... That is merely gameplay-stupid, not story-stupid. Little things like that don't need to belong to the canon story.

They probably killed those girls.

And all the members and their families. And their dogs. And the goldfish. That poor, defenseless goldfish...

From what I gather, since the Banora Cave and Northern Crater use the same environment, we can take it as Emerald Weapon NOT being at the Banora Cave thus eliminating the inconsistencies related to that idea.
I wonder what the developers would have to say about this... Was a Weapon intended to be in the Banora Cave or is it just a mistake?

I agree. Certain things have to be taken with a grain of salt, and an understanding that they aren't meant to impact the overall plot/development. Like mini-games and Zack's cutscene with the cactuar :awesome:

That goldfish asked for it when he started wearing red leather.

Well, if Dissidia is being considered canon... :monster:

A TV series.

Or at least a mini-series. That would be epic! Especially if it was about the Turks. I think they need some love, especially since they’ll probably never get their own game.

Though I think if they do make a remake they're going to do it for 2017, and if anything's released before that it will (sadly) be a sequel to DoC, since it was set up to be that way.

I would actually like to see a sequel to DoC. I am a huge Genesis fan, and the ending of DoC just gave me a heart attack when I saw it. Also, personally, I think the sequel should expound on the ending scene with Genesis cough cough Genesis as the main character cough cough That to me would be awesome.

If SE loved me, Genesis would be the main character of a sequel to DoC.

As for a remake…I think I’d be a little scared. I was with my little sister when I figured out that Cloud could go to a whorehouse, and invest in their goods, and have been…dumbfounded about it ever since. It’s not like we don’t see it on TV, it just caught me off guard, and I’ll admit it, I would be scared of what my parents would think of me if they knew what both my little sister and I saw on the videogame that day. Despite the graphics and not being able to really see anything happen, just the fact that it could be done at all would appall them.

Not including the thought above, I also do not think I would mind a remake just because…I…I’ll admit it, the graphics on the original really just hurt my eyes. It’s weird, I know, but I just have trouble focusing on it. Also, the new technology elitist in me, also thinks it would be cool to see a remake. ((Though don’t get me wrong. I do like older technology. I could teach a class on it because I think it’s so cool.))

As for all the inconsistencies, as much as they irk me….I am slowly learning to live with them. Even going so far as to make up information myself to make it make sense. It’s just one of those sad things that the creators do to their fans and themselves.

Because it's all an illusion in your mind. And they're quotations not commas :awesome:

They're called inverted commas, as well. Look it up.

In actuality, they probably weren't paying attention to their own writing.

You'd think when introducing a new character they'd at least be able to get the basic details right.

To be honest, what with the G-Reports and DoC's Secret Ending, I was really disappointed with the final product in CC. He was just another Jenova project and a LOVELESS sock puppet, to boot. Most of the fan-theories at the time were better than what we got. I'd cut them some slack with the continuity if they actually told a half-decent story.

? The Turks did have a game. Before Crisis. It was only released in Japan. Though there are some rumors of it being re-released internationally for the Nintendo DS.

As far as the "risque" stuff, I think it will still be in the remake, but I think that it would be carefully fluffed. Final Fantasy has become more PC than in those days, and more attuned to younger audiences. I expect it to be there, though.

True. I've never heard them called that. I thought you made a typo :monster:

I think when there are several writers, it gets easier to mix things up. Particularly if they keep changing their minds. But yeah, I agree. They should be able to keep track of all that crap. Especially knowing that fans do :monster:

See, I was aware of Before Crisis, but never knew much about it. I'll have to see if I can't find it anywhere. I'll even watch someone play it on youtube, so if anyone knows if someone has posted a walk through or something of that sort on youtube, please let me know. Thanks for telling me, Tifabelle. :awesome:

That would be my only dread, because my sister hasn't said anything about that to my parents, but if they ever did come out with a remake, I know there will be some finger pointing in my direction no matter how old I am. *Laughs*

Before Crisis is the unsung ugly-deformed-abomination-of-a-goat-crossed-with-a-pig title of the Compilation, with Dirge of Cerberus usually taking its place as the "worst" entry.

However the youtube videos of Before Crisis is slowly leaving DoC as the second worst entry in people's hearts. :monster:

Yeah, BC isn't worth remaking unless its entirely redone.

We should mass-produce banners with this quote, both in English and in Japanese, and post them all over Square HQ.

Edit: You know what the sad part is? My instinct was to write "Shinra" instead of "Square". :awesome:

Genesis being just another Jenova project would be true if there were more then two branches of the Jenvova project. As it is, it was a bit of a stretch for me to believe that Hojo got exactly the result he wanted from Project J on his first try. Now that there was a Project before Project J and it failed, it seems much more reasonable that Hojo wouldn't fail on Project J.

This little point makes the inclusion of Genesis and Angeal in Crisis Core much more reasonable, especially from a scientific point of view.

And as for the topic of this thread, I agree with ElusiveFinalFantasy - a sequel to DoC with Genesis as the main character would rock my world. Particularly because I'm a diehard fangirl :monster:

I just hope Square doesn't ruin things by making him still 'evil' in some way or an antagonist to the story, whatever that may be. For example, I don't mean to offend anyone, but the idea that Genesis wishes to help the planet itself by ridding it of humanity is such a cliche and silly plot idea. Pratically the same thing happened in DoC itself, with triggering Omega. If Square did that, I think I would cry. I would much rather see something along the lines of what X-SOLDIER was suggesting, minus some of the latter parts where Genesis rids the Planet of Jenova by shooting off into space like Omega. :awesome:

What's next for FFVII? In the bin if things keep going the way they are, I seriously think the compilation has just been swept under a rug at this point. Face it when exactly was the last time we had news worth noting on new developments within it? Because I really can't remember.

I'd love to see them finally turn around and say either yes or no to the remake so we can lay the thing to rest, they're gonna lose somehow either way. There'll be a lot of people who will be like OMG REMAKE!!!!!! but I have a feeling many of the fans will be more along the lines of "well gee thanks very much it only took you from about a year before the original AC was released til now to tell us. Here's the thing, DONT. SCREW. IT. UP!", same goes for if they turn around and say we're not doing it and mean it bar the OMG REMAKE!!!!!! comment. Instead there'll more comments along the lines of "right well get your fingers out of your arses, give us something new in the compilation to look forward to or wrap this shit up!"

Yay!!!! You have no idea how happy this makes me!! until now, I had never met another Genesis Fangirl!!! Everyone who does like Final Fantasy IRL that I know thinks I am absolutely insane for liking him. So yay for us!! :awesome:

That would be very saddening if they made him the bad guy again. That is....irksome. also, I, personally, don't think he did anything nobody else wouldn't have done in his position. He valued his life, and did whatever he could to keep living. I do not blame him in the least for becoming the way he is at all.

Indeed, it would be terrible. =_____= I mean, give the guy a chance to be a hero, for the love of Gaia. He's already spent the last decade suffering against an awful fate and being considered a villain.

I really think, if Square put their minds to it properly, they could give Genesis a good role in the sequel to DoC. It all just depends on what's going to happen. One of my theories is kind of similar to X-SOLDIER's, in where Genesis, being the last product of the Jenova Project, rids the world of Jenova entirely and thus saves the Planet and allows it to finally restore itself to the way it used to be.

I'm not exactly sure of the mechanics of how Genesis could finally destroy Jenova, but since he has Jenova still inside of him [i.e. in his genetic structure and from SOLDIER itself], it may involve him sacrificing himself to save the world. Which would be incredibly heroic yet tragic. T_____T A fitting end for him, I believe. Not that I want him to die, of course. But if he had to, saving the world in the process would be so awesome.

That would make a great story!!! I like that idea, and if done well, it would be timeless and compelling. Especially for Genesis fans. though, it would make me so sad to see him die, but he did want to be the hero. So I guess if that is how he get's his wish...let him have that one. Could you imagine him dying all the while reciting Loveless? Perhaps also having the scene embellished by his beloved goddess. That....going to stop now....just sounding more and more foolish....:loopy:

*sighs* we can only dream, huh? :) If not, we can always storm the great fortress of SE, and demand they do it.

Frankly, Nomura's been fairly reasonable through all of this. Kitase is the one that seems to have lost it. Nomura is everyone's favorite whipping boy, but AC/C is the only one that he directly and almost exclusively controlled.

So Nomura's the guy who made motorcycles spin around while still moving in one direction and gave the characters the insane acrobatics they could do in AC/C on top of his already existing excessive use of belts and zippers. So, I think the point stands that Nomura telling someone "that's too much" really emphasizes how crazy they must have gotten.

Personally, the "inconsistencies" don't really bother me all that much. The only one was the Sephiroth jumped/was thrown in/fell in/moonwalked in business. But I've gotten over it. The other stuff, like plot holes and whatnot - all games/movies/tv shows have them. w/e

Not all don't even give a shit about avoiding them. "Lost" had a guy who was payed to try to keep things consistent for fuck's sake. Several game companies do this too.

I never took the fanclubs especially seriously, they seemed merely there to poke fun at stereotypical fangirls. Indeed, is there a single NPC anywhere in the game besides thsoe three that mention Genesis or Angeal?

Off the top of my head, I don't remember, but the CC Complete Guide certainly talks about the Red Leather Coats as real -- and even says that they are the most popular of Genesis's multiple fanclubs, having received funding from his parents in Banora:

http://thelifestream.net/final-fantasy-vii/284/crisis-core-complete-guide-keyword-collection/3/

There's really no divorcing the public's knowledge about him from the canon story.

For that matter, if the public doesn't know he exists, why would Shin-Ra publically announce that he had died in the line of duty during March of εуλ 0001?

For example, Tres' article mentions the Emerald Weapon lookalike a few times as a moment of real stupidity for Shinra. Isn't that just an Easter Egg? Something neat for players to find? Not actually an important piece of the plot. Are we to think Zidane actually knows Cloud due to his comments in the Lindblum weapon shop too?

As far as I'm aware, the developers never actually made a comment about Zidane knowing Cloud like they did about the WEAPON being a new one that players weren't familiar with.

also, I, personally, don't think he did anything nobody else wouldn't have done in his position.

Except for people who don't think they're more important than literally everyone else? :awesome:

I am yet to see that comment about the Weapon in Banora/Northern Cave being a new Weapon, or that it even is supposed to exist in Banora. This was mentioned in the 'Emerald Weapon' topic on the CC forum, but never resolved.

Please, if there is a link to this comment, I want to see. So far, I consider that Weapon to simply be Emerald Weapon in the Northern Cave, and not in Banora.

I'm usually hesitant to mention something that I can't link to as I tend to go above and beyond in citing sources. If not for several of us being able to remember the comment, I would have just concluded that my memory was off. I will try again to find it, though. Sorry I don't have it yet.

In any event, fact remains that the Banora cave is a primary element of the storyline, so, if anything, the environment map was reused for the Minerva battle, not the other way around.

Or maybe it was at the point of designing the Minerva battle, possibly after the story's ending, that they added the Weapon there but without thinking of the fact that now we have a Weapon in Banora that is not supposed to be there.

I'm gonna keep hoping that it's supposed to be Emerald Weapon. If it turns out not to be, and that the Weapon actually exists in Banora, I'm gonna be so pissed that I may put all my FFVII projects on hold for a while. I already disliked Jade and Omega Weapon. I would ABHOR 'Banora'-Weapon.

That is possible, of course. It's also possible to assume that it doubles as both Emerald and a new WEAPON. :awesome:

But, anyway, perhaps we all remember wrong and no comment was ever made about the WEAPON. If that's the case, I'd feel compelled to go with the "it's both" explanation until we know.

I wonder if the CC Ultimania or the CC Complete Guide ever points out this thing? If Mako weren't missing in action, we could ask him.
