So whats next for FFVII?

ForceStealer

Double Growth
I still think its none of the above and just an easter egg :P

I dunno why a new weapon would look so much like emerald anyway.

That is possible, of course. It's also possible to assume that it doubles as both Emerald and a new WEAPON. :awesome:

What's next for FFVII?

"My name is Emerald Weapon Junior. You killed my father, Emerald Weapon Senior. Prepare to die." <---Ultimate Optional Boss of FFVII:EC.

Edit: Which gives us the name for the next game. "Emerald Crisis". At least that's what this discussion should be called!

An easter egg that has a basis in the actual mythos and would legitimately reside in at least one of those locations at that point in time is, by definition, not just an easter egg. =P

No, I really don't want a remake. I realize I'm alone on this but I really would rather not have one.

na your not... im not to crazy about a remake! i like my memories of my orginal FFVII PSX Experience! that game, story, and characters stole me heart! lol so thats really all i needed... but an Anime Series, or additional CG Movies is cool to! = ) Since i have less and less time for games these days... its would be hard for me to find the time to spend on a FFVII Remake.. so im with ya... not so crazy about it myself, but i won't reject it if it comes!

I was crazy about a remake until I saw what Square had become, now I dread it.

Like a couple of others have pointed out... I'm honestly not really bothered about a remake. Either way I'm okay. If they ever did release a remake of course I'd be excited about it, who wouldn't like seeing Midgar with today's graphics? that would be above awesome. Seeing the towns you once knew as 2D art now in a 3d environment - who wouldn't? But again to me, it comes down to a 'been there done that' type of thing. I'd rather see SQAURE pull their finger out of their arse and think up new ideas. I'd rather see them batch up a new FF rather than remaking an old one. I want to see new ideas, I want to see them TRY.

If a remake did come out I'd be throwing my money in their face and grabbing that game come high hell or high water - no joke. Having said that; in my eyes, they would have to add to what's already there obviously; such as how Materia handles. I can see that'll probably change with a load of other things. It wouldn't just be 'Bung your Materia Here, here and here' - and for GOD'S SAKE don't add anything new to the story. That's the least we would need. Sorry, but in my opinion, the remake is what ties up all these lose knots. Adding small parts to the story I'd see as alright, as long as they start and finish it inside the game.

I mostly expect to see SQUARE afraid of attempting a remake. VII was a classic, any attempt to recreate that classic will need a lot of hard work. They can’t dilly dally with it, they got to CONCENTRATE. They’d have to throw as much effort onto it as they can. If they can’t do that, then I don’t want to see a remake. I expect it to be up to standards. At the moment, how things are going with SQUARE, I don’t want to see a remake; not until they’ve cleaned their act together. If the remake doesn’t come up to standards then their hurting it, there’ll be sending it to the grave. If they do take a remake into consideration, they better bloody do it right. I don’t want to see them sending it into the grave. Specially at today’s age a remake would be nice, with today’s graphic whores who haven’t touched an old RPG in their life and revolve around nothing but MW, COD or whatever.

So… I honestly wouldn’t mind a remake. Either way I’m cool.

Screw the remake, they should finish the story first.

After DoC, they released a prequel telling Zack's story, then a new version of AC, then some new Novellas of the movie, and now it looks like they want to remake BC for the 3DS. But what about that fucking secret-ending?!
The cliffhanger created by the secret-ending of DoC have already the size of the Grand-Canyon!

I can't help but think that when Genesis was added in DC they had different ideas about his character, and then came CC and changed it. I don't know if the games had different teams, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case

Genesis involvement in DoC feels very forced to me and doesn't really add much to both games. Is basically the only thing "unresolved" in the Compilation

He was in DoC for, like, two seconds. In the secret ending. How is that forced? idgi

But I agree that their initial concept of Genesis in DoC probably was different than what they had created in CC.

I think his connection to DoC feels forced. In DoC we are led to believe he's the man behind everything, or at least had a deeper connection to Deepground, he even calls Weiss his brother. CC showed us different

I think there's an article talking about Genesis time in Deepground and explained why Weiss and Genesis are 'brothers', but I don't recall much of it. It wasn't anything special

There's a difference, I think, between 'Genesis was popular' and 'All reports of G were expunged.' Both can be true. One involves Genesis as he is popularly understood, the other involves all the records of Genesis that ShinRa had before redacting everything.

It's the difference between what the Public knows about Genesis and the secret records no one was supposed to know. The public wasn't aware of G's status as a J project child, his secret war, his degredation, etc. It's entirely possible the investigator of DoC knows about Genesis, but has no idea he and G are the same.

On the subject of Genesis at the end of DoC, I'm still not certain it's Genesis Upstairs.

This is an excellent point to make. The civilian population doesn't know anything about what was going on in SOLDIER in CC. From their perspective, Genesis would have died at the end of the Wutai War, and his invasion of Midgar would have looked like some rogue scientist had been playing around with human experimentation. They probably wouldn't have known anything about the mass SOLDIER desertion either.

People would have recognized that the dead copies laying all over the place in Midgar and Junon looked like Genesis, though.

It doesn't seem to be presented in that manner. They speak of two particularly legendary members of SOLDIER, "S" and "G." They know full well who "S" is and remark that "S" is well known to everyone, but then say that "G" is shrouded in mystery. They even remark that the existence of "G" may be a fabrication.

If they know about Genesis at all, then they're going to make the connection -- especially when he was the second most famous SOLDIER after "S"/Sephiroth, and his name just happened to start with a "G."

The explanation here is simple: retcons and shitty writing.

Maybe they borrowed the Resident Evil Janitor who cleaned up bodies and no one never noticed they were there? :p

Well, they tended to dissolve pretty quickly, and as a rule, they wore masks.

What? No. S didn't mean Sephypoo. It meant STEVE. You know. Steve. He saved an orphanage full of puppies from an exploding bus. Everyone knows Steve.

Seriously, though, maybe our reporter's just crap. Of course, it does give me amusing mental images of them redacting all information on him except his initial, even on personal websites. That's some strong PR/IT dept they got.

"Welcome to Red Leather Angels, the G------ Fansite! As you know, G------ loves ----- ----- ------! So we went and got ourselves earrings shaped like ----- ------."

More shitty writing than explicit retcons. Our reporter just might be a complete yutz, for example.

You know at the time I was just so excited that Genesis was alive, that I never even considered that it could be just his body and not actually him. :'(

Though that does make sense. ((Not including the fact that Oliver Quinn just might have refused, or they just wanted someone different to voice or whatever happen that they got someone different to voice the english version ((Not talking about Gackt at all in this sense,))))

They also could have gotten a different voice actor to signify that. That it isn't him anymore. Thank you for bringing that up. And if it isn't him, why on earth would that man pick Genesis's body to "possess" or use as a vessel of all bodies. If people do recognize him, and condemn him for what he did in CC (Perhaps he didn't do any research on that body or he just wanted to be handsome)? Who is this guy then? any thoughts?

SAY WHAAAAT.

DoC came before CC and they probably changed Genesis's English dub because Robin Atkin Downes was panned for his cheesy, vampirish accent in DoC's secret ending, so they cast that other guy in CC. Or whatever.

I'd also love to know what on earth you're talking about in that final paragraph.

A few things here:

1. Sorry. I honestly didn’t know DoC came before CC. I have only acknowledged the existence of Final Fantasy a couple of years ago, and never really paid attention to what game was made in what order beyond that of FFVII was first in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. So I do apologize, and thanks for letting me know. I am still trying to catch up for not being “up to date” on FFVII from the absolute beginning.

2. I was responding to Ryu’s post:

On the subject of Genesis at the end of DoC, I'm still not certain it's Genesis Upstairs.

and I was implying that someone else had taken over Genesis, since Ryu made the comment that Genesis was no long “there” in his own body. So I was trying to get people to talk about their ideas on the subject on who or why they would use Genesis’s body over another random person’s in the world of FFVII. Sorry, again, I apologize. I worded that rather awkwardly.

If you are still not sure what I am talking about, please let me know, and I’ll find a different way to explain myself. *embarrassed*

You know at the time I was just so excited that Genesis was alive, that I never even considered that it could be just his body and not actually him. :'(

I had a treatment somewhere around her re: a post DoC compilation entry where multiple different factions, including one of Genesis in Body and one of Genesis in Mind sought their goals. Also, Hojo Cultists.

Though that does make sense. ((Not including the fact that Oliver Quinn just might have refused, or they just wanted someone different to voice or whatever happen that they got someone different to voice the english version ((Not talking about Gackt at all in this sense,))))

As mentioned, they got someone new for CC, as DoC was the first voice, but the reason isn't known. Gackt was used in DoC and CC in the JP ver, so it's more just a case of not having the same person on hand, as with the JP Vaan change in 12 to Dissidia.

They also could have gotten a different voice actor to signify that. That it isn't him anymore. Thank you for bringing that up. Someone who had no other option, having lost or given up their own, such as Nero or Weiss.

I insist on a TV series. Anime TV series. From Madhouse, like with Last Order. Animation to drool for.

The quality of the story, now... that would fall on the writers.
