Uh, wow, it's certainly been a long time since I updated this thread.
Lately I've been trying to make an effort to do more in Photoshop.
Digital stuff - mostly Pokemon and Zelda fanart, some studies:

Good to see you're still around. Love the work, especially the figure drawing. Makes me want to pick up some charcoal again. It's been too damn long.

I used phone pics for these cloud studies. I'd like to get to the point where I can sort of invent more in terms of color, since phone pics obviously aren't the best reference.

EDIT: The arm looked a tad too thin and the hand too small, so tried to resize them a bit.
Hopefully the legs/feet/sandals look alright - I did what I could, but I didn't really know what I was doing with those. Also, if anyone's interested, here's my first pass at it:

All the sketches I post are pretty old since I am behind in scanning my sketchbooks)
The main issue I tried to fix was that it didn't have the upper torso twist that happens when running.

Haha, thanks! But I'm no good at coming up with new designs, I just like having fun with the existing ones. The more recent generations have been somewhat of a mixed bag for me, but there are still a number of designs I really like. I do definitely have a soft spot for the earlier gens, could be nostalgia, but I think Gen 2 and Gen 3 strike a really nice balance between simplicity and fantastical elements, and Gen 1 is classic.

You are too modest. I've been telling you how fucking sick your artwork is for a decade. now sure, that's not the most helpful thing to hear, but what can I hope to tell a pro?

Technique goes without saying is sublime. You know you can improve in the "we are all students, said the grand master" sort of way...
but what I want to say is that your aesthetic is sick.
and it's all yours. and lots of people who can draw don't have that. they just make stuff that looks like everyone else's "I watched youtube videos on speed painting for a year" art. it's nice but it's not art. you make gengar, a cool dude, into art. mad props.
And I'm not alone. I know you've come up with some dope shit, Pokémon or otherwise.
This stuff is super dope. looks like it belongs in an artwork book released in honor of the game you were lead designer on.

like paid actual money for. at exclusive events and then scanned for online peasants who couldn't get tickets to said events.
one day, I'ma attend an event like that, and I'ma find your table at the event and be like "sup, I'm a dude who lives on the internet, seriously no permanent address comes close to my internet hours, and I'd like your signature on this bad boy *lifts gengar plushie aloft* if you would honor me"

And I've been messing around with that Kitaro running drawing because it's been bothering me, but I think I've just gotta move on at this point and try a simpler pose (and start from scratch, not on top of an old sketch).

I've still been trying to do digital stuff more often (gotta get the most out of that PS CC subscription 
); the digital things and figure drawings are from this year, the sketchbook stuff is quite a bit older since I'm still behind in scanning my sketchbooks.

I've likely gotten super rusty so I should probably start practicing with photos or something.
It's funny, Gutsy Frog is relatively "new" to me since it's only been getting an English fansub for the past few years. Official English subs do exist but I think it's only ever aired on like literally one channel in California or something (interestingly, there was some live-action TV movie being produced a few years ago but it's unclear if it ever aired lol). The US didn't seem to get as much classic anime in the past as Europe or other regions.
Yeah, working from photos isn't the same - the big drawback, IMO, is lighting/values. Still, there are some benefits like being able to study poses that a model wouldn't be able to hold for a long pose and being able to take as much time with it as you need (as you can see, I rarely make it to the actual shading stage ).
