Damn, dialing the nostalgia to 11 with this one.

More Sega being supportive of fan projects - and ripping on Nintendo while doing so, for good measure. (Regarding the fan-made level Green Hill Paradise Act 2):

I agree 100%. I'm sick of playing Green Hill Zone. The new Sonic Generations style game is nothing more than a desperation move to gain back old fans who were pissed off about Sonic Boom. I'm sure they'll be fun, but it'd be nice to see something new that worked rather than just doing the old stuff over and over.

They are especially stuck on Green Hill Zone for some reason. Why not rehash some other great levels? Lava Reef Zone, Hill Top Zone, Marble Garden Zone, Ice Cap, etc.

The new Sonic Generations style game is nothing more than a desperation move to gain back old fans who were pissed off about Sonic Boom.

I could not disagree more with this, however. The new Sonic Generations style game is EXACTLY what they should have done in the first freakin place. Generations was the best Sonic game of the last 15 years, they should build on that instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater AGAIN with the Sonic Boom nonsense which utterly killed the upswing momentum that had been on up until that point.

I don't think we need another Generations style game personally. I mean it was great and fun but... it was supposed to be a one time thing to celebrate Sonic's anniversary... doing it again just seems desperate.

Having said that, I'm SURE it will be fun though. But yeah I agree they should have done something similar, with 3D style Sonic though... no need to bring back younger pudgy Sonic

I don't mean necessarily using more old levels, which, by the way, they have not said they'll be doing, but that gameplay - both the classic and modern - were absolutely things to continue with. "Doing it again," does not seem desperate, it seems smart. If it was "fun and all," why would you abandon it?
This constant need to "reinvent" is what ruined everything in the first place.

Oh I'm not saying reinvent at all... I just mean... we did the old and new Sonic in one game for a special and it was great. But they had a good thing going with colors IMO... I don't feel like we need Sonic and classic Sonic but... what I'd really like to see is a Sonic, Tails and Knuckles game with the hedgehog engine. I'd much rather than than another Sonic and classic Sonic. I guess that's what I mean by something new, not that they should start over again. No, for the love of god, don't do that again :monster:

^Tony Hawk's Sonic Adventure. Just kidding (although, what if... :awesome:). Anyways, looks good. It is very... spacious, but I don't think they'd be able to get things as compact as the original 2D games without camera issues.

I wonder how that Utopia game would work. Like if progression was objective-based, for example. I think the video gives a feel of momentum, which is good / essential. Just feels very sparse and spatially flat. Needs more -- oh, I dunno -- platforms. Speed up a ramp and there should be something to land on higher in the sky. This game has potential.

Sonic and Tails footage from the same level:

Someone noted that Knuckles started in a different position in the level as in S3&K, which is hype. Attention to detail. The animations rock. Also that CRT filter is optional incase anyone was wondering :monster:

Interesting how with all the S3&K-isms (which I am loving) like the power-up shields and the extra life jingle, that Sonic's sprite is much more Sonic 1/2/CD. I'm still definitely partial to his S3&K sprite, but I do love that third "stage" from CD when his feet look like a ribbon and his hands are behind him.
