I missed this party
Anywho... I only played RW once, but I don't remember anything explicit for either couple. Even the few random comments didn't necessarily make either pair canon. Although I guess it's canon that Balthier tried at some point
FFXII had more "romance" in it than RW (at least for these couples). And the only things in FFXII that really hint towards either of these being a potential couple is when Penelo is narrating the end and she says something like "I think Ashe really misses Basch". And that Ashe wrote to him. As for Balthier/Fran, I suppose that exchange in the Bahamut at the end could be considered a bit romantic. But tbh, I don't really see them as a couple.
Ashe/Basch doesn't bother me, but it also doesn't really intrigue me much either (or "meh" in internet-speak). Although I do like both characters (even though certain times I don't like Ashe's attitude.
) Fran/Balthier is a bromance to me, and I really like them this way. Ashe/Balthier is more appealing to me, although I don't think this was intended to happen. Does anyone know where I can find an English version of the manga?
I think arguments could probably be made for all of these pairings though. Although I do still believe that Ashe/Basch is canon. Not as much to speak of however as Vaanelo which is canon, and I love it. Which is odd because they're two bland characters made more interesting by their pairing. They had a ton more in RW than FFXII, although I think FFXII was enough to realize the canonicity of the couple. But out of all the XII characters, they're really the only ones I actively "ship". The others are just sort of... there.
