Oh Bhryn, art is fab and fanfiction is good. Too much purple prose though. Probably one of the driving forces for the Tifa/Aeris fandom, but I'd like to think I'm a close second.

Love Not Often is Bhryn's gem on the pairing rivled only by her sequels popularity. It's good, just a bit muddled at times.

But I think we should try conversation in the thread -- why Tifa/Aeris? What about them as characters (in any sense of pairing or not) make them appeal to readers outside the obvious boobs.

Personally, I believe the girls foil each other perfectly, which is just too easy a literally devise to pray upon. There's also the fact that besides Yuffie, they're really the main female power, so it would just be natural that they'd get spun more than the ninja (without her red cloaked counter-part that is).

I definitely agree with the points you brought up, but another reason I like them together, in any sense, is because of the amount of individual character hate the girls get. And this goes without mentioning the amount of people convinced that Tifa and Aerith hate each other or the whole deal with the love triangle.

Fandom is overly sympathetic to the men and far too critical with women, so yuri/shoujo-ai/femslash pairings seem to be the only place without any kind of female character bashing.

I'm still looking for a haven safe of any kind of bashing, but I won't hold my breath.

Yes, that's surely a strong fight against the pairing. You need an author that first of all, doesn't favor either girl, can be open to yuri, and actually knows the inner workings of lesbian sex ('cause let's face it, who reads for the story? lulz).

Those authors are few and far between, and 90% of what's written for the two still don't meet those requirements. Sad days.

I like Aerith with Tifa because she seems like someone who would beat up people who were harassing Teef with a sharp tongue-lashing.

That, and they have a very tender friendship, even if the game pushed their rivalry.

It's not a Clerith smack; I was just referencing a pre-established essay as reason to write a new one. Everything mentioned in the essay could just as easily applied to Tifa and Aerith, after all.
