The Cult of Kefka

Agreed, Kefka was very nearly perfect in Dissidia. Dissidia's habit of singling out a character trait and dialing it to 11 hurt most characters, but that's what Kefka already was. (Not to say that he wasn't an interesting character in VI, on the contrary, it was what made him so sociopathic.) His unpredictable changes in tone, flitting around the screen without actually traveling, and his reactions to all the other FF characters with him are amusing and allow for some much needed self-deprecation on Square's part. (Calling Vaan a prepubescent girly man or whatever it was, repeatedly calling out Kuja for his ridiculous appearance, etc.)

He's also a case of the English voice being superior to his Japanese, in my opinion. The far-too-frequent shrill shrieking of Japanese Kefka really got on my nerves, 'exoticism' be damned. As I said before, I know you could make the argument that Kefka's supposed to be annoying, but I prefer Wittenberg's annoying without being grating. But, yes, both of them do manage to pull off my favorite aspect of insane villains - when their voices slide into a suddenly deep and intimidating one.

And yeah, I never understood the pointy ears either.

Yes, but I prefer also the more deeper voice of Shigeru Chiba when he plays the more scary Kefka, but i must admit that Wittenberg did a wonderful job too.

I think that they were thrying to give Kefka a more impish look, but i think that was unecessary and exagerated.
