beh, late on replies. bug internet.
I'm not one to really think Cloud is totally hawt or anything, but I must say he's looking alot more badass in the new trailer. It must be all the dirt and blood upping all the manliness factor or something
Why I like Cloud: simply put, I like Cloud because he is not good with people. He's awkward, and somewhat socially retarded. In the same light, he's not a complete angsty broody cliched badass that purposefully outcasts himself (a stereotype I find way too exhausting - ironically, the stereotype Cloud tries to build himself into). I like him because his separation from people is a result of his own insecurity, but at the same time he's still drawn to those around him. He's not smooth or cold; he's weird, he trips over his own two feet.
The SpiderMan comparison actually works very well.
As for the Cloud/Sephiroth parallel: I always got the feeling that Square tried to foil them in some ways. Namely, when thinking of Sephiroth's feelings toward others (especially the line about his childhood) it sort of mirrored Cloud's feelings of superiority to the Nibelheim kids. Of course, it was entirely different situations, but I always thought it was a bit of a parallel.
and of course, there are the obvious opposites to them: Sephiroth being the most successful in his field, Cloud never having success; Sephiroth constantly falling from grand heights, Cloud always rising from low depths etc.
