I was wondering why there wasn't a thread for this already.

Anyways, FF7:R is up for players voice and I thought it might be nice to show it some support :) Its currently tied for 3rd, but I believe the winner last year was Fire Emblem: 3 Houses, so I think it definitely has a shot.

Any other predictions for what the big winners might be?

I think FF7's got Best RPG in the bag, at the very least. I'm skeptical of other categories, though I would also be let down if it doesn't win soundtrack.

GOTY: The Last of Us 2 is my guess, though I've seen Hades get a lot of buzz

Game Direction: I could see this going any way tbh

Narrative: no fucking clue. Hades?

Art Direction: my hope is Ghosts for this one

Score/Music: Hoping for FF7R. TLOU2 might win, but I will probably be annoyed if it does lol.

Audio Design: TLOU2

Best Performance: Ashley Johnson as Ellie

Games for impact: idk

Best Ongoing: dont care

Indie: Probably Hades though I'm rooting for my lil stumbly beans

Best Mobile: rooting for Among Us

Community Support: Fall Guys twitter is the GOAT

Best AR/VR: Probably Half Life Alyx

Innovation in Accessibility: TLOU2

Best Action: Doom Eternal?

Best Action Adventure: ...That Star Wars game was this year wtf?

Best RPG: I'd be shocked if it wasn't FF7R, especially given the nominees

Fighting: anyone reading this could probably beat me at all of these games :)

Family: tough! I have a soft spot for Animal Crossing but I'm gonna root for Fall Guys

Sim/Strat: dont know/care

Sports/Racing: Tony Hawk. lol at this being 1 category.

Multiplayer: Among Us!

Content Creator: I like Alanah?

Debut game: I played Phasmophobia and had an alright time so I guess that

Esport+Coach: idk give it to someone nice I guess

Esport Event: all of these attract gamers en masse so they're probably all awful

Esport Game: my friends been liking COD lately so that one I guess

Best Host: idk give it to someone nice I guess

Best Team: Team Secret has a cool name

I feel like Remake will have... several more games in it's series that have the chance to also win GOTY. Particularly whatever game ends its series. Not to mention that later games will hopefully be more overall polished than Remake is, particularly the final dungeon and bosses. And the other contenders this year... they're all finished games with finished stories. While Remake is... Part 1 of an extended gaming experience.

And part of this is probably coming from the fact that Hades is freaking good and finished and has a level of polish to it that few games can boast of. You can tell Hades sat in Early Access on both Epic and Steam for a good year (or more) before it finally released and didn't waste the feedback it got as a result. It's so satisfying to play in a way few games are. Doesn't hurt either that it's a Rouge-like with a nice suite of randomizers that mean it can endlessly be replayed...

Like TLOU2 had good music and all... it just did that 500 Days of Summer thing where it was just like "hey do u like the smiths." idk I just think this is the area FF7R truly stands out in this category and deserves recognition ya know?

And Hades has very good music too. I just don't know how anything could stand up to VIIR's sheer quantity of good music, haha

The problem with "quantity" for how good a soundtrack is... is that line of reasoning will always favor games with larger soundtracks over games with smaller soundtracks. And... there's plenty of "really good cinematic orchestral soundtracks" out there. The Remake is one of many games with that kind of soundtrack if a stellar example of it.

I don't want to say I've gotten... tired... of "really good cinematic orchestral soundtracks", but I kinda have because they're now done so often all over the place. They just... don't do a lot for me anymore. I'd rather have more quirky music compositions nowadays because that often shows the composer had something more creative in mind than just "i need it to sound epic so I'll use a a cinematic orchestral soundscape".

It's a good thing the remake ost is much more than just "cinematic orchestral" then :P

There is an insane amount of variety and styles in there that exemplifies what can make game soundtracks so great. It's eclectic as heck :monster:

Hades deserves GOTY honestly. It hurts me to say that considering FFVII Remake came out this year and I actually enjoyed it.

Yeah, FF7R is my favorite game of the year, but it's not the best game of the year.

I'm just glad Cyberpunk 2077's last delay put it past the deadline to qualify this year, widening the path for FF7R. It's possible Cyberpunk would've been nominated for Best RPG, among other things, and taken it home.

I know I shouldn't care about these award shows, that they don't matter, but uhhh... When my favorite wins, I'm definitely happy about it haha.

I've never cared about award shows personally, and I've never watched the VGA's. My personal game of the year almost never lines up with the wider experience, which is fine with me.

But I will get attached to a particular category sometimes. It was music two years ago as well when I thought nothing deserved it over Automata, and ditto this year for VIIR. (and yes, as Tets said, the soundtrack is SO much more than "cinematic orchestral")

As a creator I'd feel offended if my work was labelled a bait just because I tried put a bit of effort into it.
