Then, I assume they’re from a rating board, perhaps? That’s how Super Smash Bros. 4’s last few unlockable characters got leaked.

Given that the game content has to be sent out to numerous countries’ boards to be rated, there’s a chance one of them leaked it.

I played some of Last of Us just to get a feel for the world, and if it really was as hopeless and dark as I remembered.

And holy shit, how did I fucking forget the goddamn Hunters?

Pittsburgh was fucking hell.

Like, every single person in this game is out to get you.

Nevermind that it's already hell with the Infected and all.

You can literally not trust anyone.

And now it's going to be even MORE dark...

LOL wow.

Please don't read if you really don't want to know anything about this new game! I mainly talk about fan reactions, but it might allude to things people don't wanna know.

What I have been seeing on the web is that people reacting on the web is to what I would call "gratuitously woke stuff"?

Idk, I don't *personally* see that from what I read, but I understand how performative wokeness is really off-putting. I also don't really trust gamers as a community to have appropriate reactions to that kind of stuff.

Right now, the angry reacts come across as kind of cringey, but I might be reacting similarly in a month so who knows.

Given what I know, I can completely understand why some queer fans may be upset, but it remains to be seen how they handle that character.

If they do it well, I dunno maybe the choice would be worth it?

I dunno, it just seems like a real tone deaf choice given the world we live in now. But, we should see what happens, at the very least.

I think I'm just gonna wait til it releases and watch a playthrough. For starters, I really think tlou is one of those games that absolutely did not need a sequel and benefited more from having the audience sit with the uncomfortable ending, but eh.

story spoilers for tlou2 leaks:

and the idea that ellie lived at the end of first game only to have her story end on a note of revenge and violence instead of what she built out of a life that was nearly stolen from her feels...so hollow. i don't know any way the game could make this plot sit right w me but. i don't wanna judge fully until i have context.

I think the reactions I have seen more of has been of the "MRRRRR I HATE SJW SHIT" variety. Which I think can make sense sometimes, but I am not really seeing how it does quite yet. Granted, this is just from me watching some reaction videos on youtube while working from home. I haven't seen any of the actual leaks.

I mean, I'm queer and in my experience, if you're gonna have a lesbian lead, it's realistic to expect that the people around her are going to be largely queer as well. The gays tend to stick together, it just how it be :monster: So it seems reasonable to me that there would be more LGBT+ characters in a game where you're in Ellie's POV. Especially in that kind of world.

I feel bad speaking about specifics, but it seems like there might be a character who takes a significant role, who may also be trans? Depending on how this character is written, I can see queer fans either being really protective of this character from the backlash, or really hating the depiction. I expect multiple camps for when we inevitably get to that discourse.

Again, it really does come down to execution. On paper, the first last game is a pretty basic zombie-survival plot. Its brilliance comes more from its subtle storytelling. It made me really feel the complicated emotions that come of being a parent, even though I don't have any children of my own. The spoilers, on paper, make the new game seem less subtle on the surface. For me, that brings some concern that the writers might be out of their element with all the queer stuff. It always sticks out like a sore thumb when a story doesn't know how to approach those kinds of topics.

The trans character is the actual protagonist of the game who wants to murder Ellie, because Joel killed her dad.

Her dad was the surgeon you were forced to kill in TLOU, in whatever creative way you wanted, at the Fireflies hideout in Salt Lake.

She's on a campaign of revenge to kill Ellie and every person close to her.

There's an ending where she seemingly succeeds, apparently.

But yeah, the trans villain protagonist kills the beloved main character everyone thought they'd be playing as again in the sequel.

I have no fucking idea how this is supposed to not provoke backlash or work out abysmally for all but.... I dunno. It just really seems like a fucked up role to put a trans character in for absolutely zero reason.

But what do I know.

All I do know is, the trans people I know who found out about this spoiler, fucking hate it. :monster:

Reading the reaction confirms my believe that fans are such pussies:

as long as it's there for the story to make a point (theme), let the characters be fucked, messed with and be hurt.

I mean, that is the world of TLOU, it's a violent, fucked up world.

Dunno if that was the direction I'd necessarily take it if I were writing/designing the characters, but maybe there's... An overarching, meaningful message or something that goes beyond it's surface read.

I certainly hope so.

Are you talking about Abby? I haven't really looked into the leaks at all, but I thought that Lev(?) was trans and was actually a pretty cool character. The problem is that they are Abby's buddy so they get looped into all the hate for her.

*gets the popcorn ready* I've been following a bit of the leaked discussions and understand many people's frustrations. We'll see how this new trailer does with giving fans a little more "context. So far it isn't looking too good.

This was a few days ago, so maybe the spoilers were clarified or something.

Yeah,
Abby is the one who does the big spoiler thing, and she's not trans.

Just to clarify :monster:

I'm normally spoiler-phobic but I've dipped a toe in the waters and I, too, am worried about a million different things. I'll reserve judgement until I actually play it but I think there are a load of ways this could go wrong. They're treading on some mighty thin ice, to use Joel's terminology.

A sequel killing off the main character of the previous game is always a bad look, but that we're playing as the person that does it strikes me as an incredibly bad idea.
