Tifa's Design: Has It Gotten Better?

Naw. :) I know that, I just don't see the similarities between her and Ito. I don't know how they picked the English VAs, so Cook looking like her must be just a coincidence. Or maybe they did choose her because of that..?

When they picked Tifa's Japanese VA, they wanted someone with a "huskier voice" compared to Aerith's. I guess that was the same criteria they were asked to look for in the english VA.

In fairness to Cook, her normal speaking voice sounds fine as Tifa. What I don't get is why she has to modulate it to sound like a mouse in AC. Mena Suvari on the other hand sounds high, maybe she was trying to sound ethereal but idk she's just terrible :@

In fact, the only VA I was 100% fine with is Burton, although in his later works as Cloud he sounds a bit bored and uninspired to me.

It's funny, I saw some TV show I hadn't heard of last night starring Rachael Leigh Cook and I thought she was sporting a rather (AC) Tifa look. Her hair was dyed dark and off to side like Tifa's. Just a coincidence I'm sure, but it was interesting and kept me watching.

And Tifa's Japanese VA is husky my ass. Screechy Tifa no thanks. And I would say Burton started out sounding more bored and improved with each subsequent performance except Dissidia. But the directing for Dissidia seems to have sucked all around.

I like to think he's just in character, and Cloud has had so many wacky/horrifying/awesome adventures and killed Sephiroth so many times now that he is perpetually bored by the whole mess. Kinda like "Well, *sigh* here we go again. Let's mosey." :monster:

No seriously the english speaking VAs suck ass.

I always thought the way he says "Sephiroth, what do you want?!" in Advent Children sounded exasperated with the whole thing...and I rather like it.

The first time I appreciated Cook's voice was when I watched a movie of her. After that I noticed how she often makes Tifa sound too girly and unnatural when in some of her lines she sounds just normal. Something to do with the directing, perhaps? Or maybe she just sucks in voice acting

Y u no like Burton? I think he has the perfect voice for Cloud. :monster: But yeah he does sound like what you described in Dissidia. Do not want.

That would be directing.

And it's called Perception or something I think.

I definitely heard that there were serious problems with the voice directing in Dissidia. Specifically a few of the voice actors straight up said there was almost none.

It ended up with the worst Kuja ever. Dissidia 012 felt like an improvement, but just slightly. And it's hard to tell if it was directing or if some of the VA's just knew better. Lightning, Vaan, and Yuna already know their characters (although I hate Yuna's VA), and the VA that played Kuja apparently talked to their fans about the characters and why it was so bad (I think Drake is the one that talked with him or something). He was much better the second time around.

Burton is talented but it sounds more like he's trying to voice Squall rather than Cloud. Then again I don't blame him, because no one can seem to agree with Cloud's real personality. I guess that what happens with a character that has a psychotic break and personality shifts.

Sephiroth has become FFVII's Frieza.

On an unrelated note, I love knowing that a Dragonball analogy will always find a home with 100% of those who will read it.

I'm probably alone in this but I don't think Tifa looks Asian in ACC. She looks Caucasian, just with dark hair and eye color.

Agree.

I would also add that I absolutely love her in that design, besides the pouches or whatever you call them and without the dolphin tail, I still really feel her so familiar. The point is that, her first outfit, yeah of course is beatiful to watch, 66% of her body exposed, but for me doesn' t fit tifa like a pair of gloves if we think how lovely she is beyond her being so splendid physically.

For the eyes, dunno, I loved the red ones but in a movie portrait i don' t think you wanna make appear a so ontheearth girl with shining red eyes, even though, if they did I would' t have anything to complain about. :)

They could have still given her a brighter hue of brown, at least. Don't you think? :)

And I like my Tifa with long hair. Longer than ACC, of course. Shame that Japanese people tend to go with the idea that "mother figure = shorter hair" :( .

If there's ever a sequel to Dirge of Cerberus and Tifa continues with "short" hair, I'll weep.

I thought they cut her hair because animating really long hair was a pain. Same reason why they consistently forget Red exists.

Don' t know, the actual eye color still fits her perfectly, since it gives an idea of discretion, a sweethearted girl which has no interest in boasting anything to anyone, except the one she loves.

:)

Yeah, that's probably what should be the real reason... But I'm aware that the Japanese seem to have this conception of long hair being something related to being young and pure and whatnot.

And I agree with you on the eye color, FLo, except for one thing. Since wheen having one eye color or another can mean one wants to boast? I mean, you don't exactly choose your eye color :) .

A brighter brown would still have been discreet enough. I'm not talking about orange or red here. Either way, I agree that not everything from the original "cartoony" characters can be used with their recent realistic depictions. Starting with Cloud's hair

Physically I like Tifa's design in AC. I've heard complains about her looking too plain but for me that's what worked-- we have a character who doesn't look too fantastical/ is simple for a touch of reality and yet is kick-ass in more ways than one. I'm not a fan of the new outfit though, I think she looks better in a skirt (or shorts just to keep her panties from being exposed like in Dissidia).

As for the eyes I'm happy they didn't go with red. That worked for the OG graphics but in AC I think that'd just come off as too extraordinary if not creepy for a character like her. A lighter shade of brown would be better though.

I think you' re right, you do not choose your eye color but my point was I thought of Nomura or whatever made up Tifa AC model thought of "Im Tifa, a 23old girl in love with Cloud, I spent the last 4 5 years of my life unable to express my feelings to him" Ok, I would definetly cut the red eyes out. Even though, im beginning to think that you' re right, in no way a shiny red eyes could have meant boosting or anything else related, my mistake. :3

It always did bug me that Tifa's eyes were an odd lighter brown in AC/C over her original wine-color in the OG. But, I suppose there were reasons.

As for Dissidia, even I have to admit, as much as I loved Burton voicing Cloud, he did sound a bit.. off- in Dissidia. Honestly I think it was a lot of voice directing problems really. Especially since he sounded great to me in his other appearances.

Tifa in Dissidia, tho I haven't played the game, looks very pretty in it and as some have said, I prefer her original design, clothing-wise, over her AC one. Still, her loss of hair-length didn't really bother me, because to me, she was still Tifa, even without her dolphin-tail.

What? That doesn't make sense on a several levels.

Tifa was 22 in AC BTW.

Indeed. She had already expressed her feelings towards Cloud two years prior, as did he regarding his feelings for her. And the main reason it took her so long to express her feelings towards Cloud is that it wasn't until 5-6 years after developing feelings for him until she saw him again and actually knew that it was him. After that she just had to work up some courage.

Also, regarding Tifa's hair, I like it down to her mid back like it is in Crisis Core, rather than down to her butt like in FFVII, or down to her shoulders like it is in AC/C, that way it's not too long, and not too short.
