Tifa's Design: Has It Gotten Better?

What we see of Edge in ACC/DoC doesn't exactly scream of poverty
Really? I mean, we see people dying on the streets and orphans running around all over the place. There's also a lot of rubble still laying around. I dunno, it might be a step up from sector seven, but not by much.

Not sure if you're addressing me, or if that was just a typo, but that was Tea-chan.

Yes, oops. Edited.

No, no. You misunderstand. My point was more to Nomura's logic. She already was a barmaid, so to say "well now she's a barmaid so we need to change her outfit" is sort of silly.

Fair enough. :monster:

@Splintered. Still though, the new 7th Heaven definitely looks like a "nicer" place. After all, they're serving refugees from the plate as well as the slums, so there is still a different clientele.

They have a sky now, that's better. I mean, come on. Edge's Seventh Heaven is a building on a street, not a wooden house in the middle of what might as well be a junkyard.

Are people really not getting that the dolphin tail= the length of her hair and the parted end, not her hair being curved to the bloody side by the wind?

No, I think they're just saying they didn't realize originally that the dolphin tail split was an intentional persistent feature, rather than pseudomotion in the drawing.

:/ It's not like Edge is a high-class neighborhood, lol. I think as you said, it has more to do with the idea of her being in a mother role.

It's actually rather middle class, if a bit industrial.

Right or wrong, SE (and particularly Nomura's designs) have never been "practical". Sometimes, yes, or certain elements of an outfit, have practicality. But they are typically grandiose with extra bells and whistles.

Are you saying the Panties, long half skirts, and high heels AREN'T proper battlefield attire?

I don't see how the vest is anymore modest. It's another layer, but it doesn't cover any more than the tank top does.

In the same way wearing underwear is more modest than going commando, maybe?

This is going back to that conversation regarding FF and "normal" clothes. FF7 has arguably the most normal clothes out of them.

Yeah, Nomura's designs aren't very practical, but they might be some of the most practical in FF. Notable exceptions include the obvious hamming up of Job classes in 10-2.

No, no. You misunderstand. My point was more to Nomura's logic. She already was a barmaid, so to say "well now she's a barmaid so we need to change her outfit" is sort of silly.

I think it's more Nomura going 'Okay, so she should have had something like this to begin with, really, oops.'
Though she probably ought to have doffed it at some point.
Did she have it on during DoC?

Well, there's the rubble in the mako-radiation zones, but nobody lives there except orphans anyways. In Edge you see new buildings going up and lots of healthy people running around at least giving off a vibe of being busy and working.

And people are dying in the streets from an at-the-time incurable and contagious disease. Which is why I assume they're on the streets and not in dying in homes like good civilized folk.

As for the orphans, the shitty way their treated makes Edge seem all the less poverty stricken. They're either ignored or scorned, both typical reactions by people with money towards people without.

tl;dr Apparently Edge is full of assholes.

And at least the houses don't try to eat you anymore.

Man, don't even talk about the Hell Houses. They just totally broke fiction. :awesome:
NOW FF7 IS BAD FICTION

NO ONE IN FF HAS DONE ANYTHING AS RIDICULOUS AS PILEDRIVE A HOUSE, EVER.

EVER

It's a wonder then how they managed to make Edge look so much nicer than Midgar (the slums at least) in much shorter amount of time. I mean... they used pretty much the same resources - junk, debris, scrap.

Reeve's amazing urban development skills?

I always took the AC look as a sign of maturity, not trying to dress more modestly because she has a boy in the house (she also changed her clothes before she met Denzel. You see this clearly in the Episode Denzel anime).

The first outfit matched her personality as far as a rebellious fighter goes. Her personality at the end of FFVII is noticeably different than it was in the beginning, and it signifies moving forward despite the tragedy (like Garnet chopping off her hair in FFIX).

But I think the real reason for the change was that guys like Nomura were tired of fanboys going on about the boobs and skirt, which is why it's a positive in my book.

That's what I really wanted to gauge out of the topic: why are people so obsessed with her looks? Is she really that stacked compared to other RPG characters, including FF ones? FMV notwithstanding, the way people go on about it is like she has this DOA-level of sexualization.

By AC graphics (including -and especially- modern renders of her original outfit), I think she's one of the prettiest video game characters around. And I liked her before in lego graphics based on personality alone. So, were she real, I'd be more than happy to take her off Cloud's indecisive hands.
But as for the perception, yeah I dunno. Lulu's got some massive boobs that are ready to pop out of her dress at any moment, and people don't seem to treat her the same way, so go figure. She doesn't show as much skin I guess, and it would take an inordinately long to time to get between her legs.

@Tifabelle:Reeve probably had sometime to do with it. Also, as I said, Edge houses people from the Plate too, so there were people with money around.

Square Enix? Tired of thousands of people willing to shell out money? MADNESS!

well, her outfit is simple and to the point: sexy and showing it. Considering this was also the beginning of 3d models, it makes her well remembered.
Sabin can piledrive a train.
CLEARLY FF6 IS NOT AN FF GAME AT ALL

BECAUSE THIS SORT OF THING BREAKS GOOD FICTION YOU SEE

Guys guys. Sabin didn't PILEDRIVE a train. He SUPLEXED it.

That's why FF7 is bad fiction and FF6 is good fiction.

Well no, Reeve was behind the amazing urban development that kept Midgar in the state it was in during FFVII, Edge seemed to be more Rufus and the Turk's doing judging by Case of Shinra.

Nevertheless it's ridiculous what they got done in two years.

Much of that is scaffolding, actually. Which is actually why they DID get so much done in two years- Prefab housing units, using the scaffolding to lift and move it.

Didn't we decide in some DoC thread that thanks to Reeve's Inspire he could make all the construction machines come to life and build things for him?

SOUNDS PERFECTLY LOGICAL TO ME.

Considering the amount of people/buildings in DoC Kalm vs OG Kalm, that would make the most sense.

Too bad Edge is completely wiped out another year later. (Save Cloud, Tifa and Denzel)

It was evacuated, not wiped out. All but 500 or so people left, and nearly all of THEM were wiped out.

As for Kalm, we only see one small section of it in OG. We see the same section again at the end of the Kalm level in DoC.
