TLS' burfday

So I just tested out streaming for the first time (without first installing any Open Broadcaster Software). There is a 30-40 second delay between my gameplay and the footage on the stream. Is this normal?

EDIT: Now I just need to purchase a proper microphone. Any suggestions? I can't use my headset because then I'll be covering my ears when I'm supposed to listen to the TV. The string has to be 2-3 meters long, to reach from my computer to my couch.

EDIT#2: Oh wait, maybe I can use the microphone that's in my webcam! ...Actually that might be a bad idea. Sound from my TV risks coming in.

Yeah that's probably normal; streams often work with multiple servers re-broadcasting your stream. I can imagine that stuff first goes to the US, gets transcoded / recompressed, then sent to twitch.tv or whoever's global content delivery network. And shit.

I'm going to bake delicious caek that only I'll be able to eat. Lol.
So what are we doing? Are we launching a competition or not?

Well fuck me, this is another load of fuck wank (no offence to you there Shad, I mean the general lack of interest).

Do people actually want to bother commemorating the event or not?

I have no ideas, relevant talents or streaming capabilities. =(

Once again, I'd love to contribute, but London/EGX the same week. I'll watch from afar, but guys, you should do something if you can. :)

I was first going to write about what a lazy year it has been for the frontpage since our 5th anniversary, but looking back now it wasn't actually so bad.

- Weekly Roundups continued up until April 2014. I thought it had been dead for longer.

2013:
- September: Unused Text Part 9 + Omega- & G Reports added. Holy crap it's been a year already. Only translations remain for Part 10. Will probably request somebody on TLS instead to do that part soon.
- October: Unused Fields of FFVII.
- November: Tres published what I like to call the "LTD Book". In my opinion, this erudite work is the most EPIC one we have on this site.

2014:
- January Round 1: TLS podcast + DC:Lost Episode. Good times. The Lost Episode upload wasn't discovered immediately when it was fresh, but still great news.
- January Round 2: Tres writes an apology to Clerith fans. I finally publish my FFVII Version Guide.
- April Round 1: News about petition to get Ultimanias translated into English. The result was negative, as we all know. TLS podcast.
- April Round 2: Tres gets exclusive interview with French OtWtaS translator.
- May: Carlie published the FF essay "To Be a Hero". TRAP field finally restored; updated entered into Unused Fields of FFVII article.
- June: TLS member working at Square Enix E3 booth. Report of said event. FFVII G-Bike announced.
- August & September: Tres's Memorial Ultimania translations are published. Dengeki Magazine articles.

While the drive for a podcast doesn't seem to exist currently, one theme for the podcast could be to simply go over the big news (both general Square news and site events) from September 2013 to September 2014 and react to them.

You don't have Lazarus installed? If you're using Chrome or Firefox, install that. :monster:

I don't really have anything helpful to add, unfortunately, though I'd definitely like to see something special done for the anniversary.

Schweet, when did I become part of staff? :awesome:

I believe you have me mistaken for the birthday gurlalurl.

Forgot to post the schedule plan here. Copy-pasted from my facebook page:

... on the 27th and 28th, I will be streaming a playthrough of Dirge of Cerberus in celebration of the 6th birthday of theLifestream.Net. The stream will happen on this Twitch channel: http://www.twitch.tv/shademp88
The current plan (will alert if changes are made) is to stream from 12:00 - 19:00 GMT on both days, give or take some time on the second day depending on when the playthrough is completed. Apologies to American audiences for the early starting hour.

Being my first ever livestream, my performance will be reflected by that fact. Don't expect entertainment even close to Game Grumps levels.

I can't predict if fatigue will strike me and if I'll have to cancel the stream early. This is all very new and big for me but I'll do my best to get through the full game while also talking about both the good and the bad of this FFVII title. :)

I am in GMT+2 so on my end the playthrough goes on from 14:00-21:00. Obviously with lots of potty breaks and me consuming food-replacement bars :monster:

Love the timing. I might have something on, on the 27th, but I will definitely be there on the 28th.

Also, Extra Hard mode is the one true way, to play the game. I hope you're gonna be doing that.

Will indeed be playing Ex Hard. But it's not going to be a skill-based playthrough because I start out with all the best equipment (New Game+ FTW). Essentially only the Kalm stage will be dangerous, but after that I will always level up Vincent and the game will become easy.

IDK about Saturday, but I can probably watch the Sunday session. Looking forward to it, since I CBA to play the game originally. I got so far in before getting bored fuckless. :monster:

Oh look. I managed to find a birthday(ish) thread before it happened (for once).

I could totally be down for some hanging around on Skype over the weekend from time to time for great justice and things, since I'm never one of those people who does that on the regular.

Facebook page entry about the birthday

Today, TheLifestream.Net (TLS) has existed for six years.

It is a site I think of as my "FFVII home". I may do my own race by having this facebook page and my own YouTube channels, but all the research and uploads are done in the names of both me and this great Final Fantasy VII hub.

Shademp and TLS are linked in a relationship that will go on for many more years. Happy birthday old companion.
