Once again, here are our final list of nominations. You may vote for as many options above as you wish, but only vote for games you would be willing to play.

- two ideas were proposed. This is an MMO which is, naturally a massive time sink. So for the sake of the community playthrough we have two options:

1. A 2.0 Story Run (Pros: New characters, more open to newcomers. Cons: Longer)
2. A Community Dungeon / Raid Run (Pros: Ready to roll, faster, more fun. Cons: Not so open to new players.)

I will present both options on the list above.

Final Fantasy Main Series
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX +4
Final Fantasy X +1
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy XII +3
Final Fantasy XIV +6
Final Fantasy XV +2

Final Fantasy Side Games
Final Fantasy Tactics +3
Dirge of Cerberus +1

Non FF Titles
Chrono Cross
The Last Of Us +1
Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille Zur Macht
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Mass Effect
KOTOR
Witcher 2
Dragon Age: Origins

My votes:

X-2: As I said when nominating it, I think I'd enjoy it but I need help getting over my initial repulsion with the game - I've tried three times and never played past the first mission.

Tactics: I've been wanting to play it for a long time but never have, for some reason. I've completed Tactics Advance and got pretty far in Tactics A2, so I already know I'll like it.

Chrono Cross: I think it would be a nice follow-up to our playthrough of Chrono Trigger a couple of years ago, which has since become one of my all-time favourite games.

Dragon Age: Origins: Lex bought this for me and I feel bad I haven't played it yet. :P

If I could cast negative votes, they'd be for VII, VIII and IX, because we've chosen them all for community playthroughs fairly recently (in VII's case, multiple times), XIV because not everyone will be able to play it at the same time and not everyone's internet connection is good enough for it, XV because it's still a full-price, console-exclusive game which not everyone here has (I wouldn't take part in the playthrough if it were chosen), and Dirge because it is an awful, awful game (sorry not sorry :awesome:).

Basically I want as many people as possible to have the possibility of joining in, which means nothing too new, expensive or difficult to get. Everyone here has a PC but not necessarily a great one; everyone can emulate games up to and including the PS1 and most people can emulate PS2 games, but anything after that is trickier. I'm not saying we can't play them but it's worth considering.

For those that don't have XIV yet, it's €10 on Steam (and 20 on PSN), I'm pretty sure that comes with a month or so of play time. I'm pretty sure going through the whole storyline (at least the OG) will take... more than a regular FF game at least.

We could always do silly sub-50 shit for video / screenshot purposes and general lulz. Would be neat if we could get a ton of members into the FC, although I'm not sure what benefits we could give to members.

besides lame puns off course.

I voted for II, XII, Tactics and DA: Origins.

I would like to vote for Dirge and The Last of Us, but I'm having a thumb problem atm that means I have to be careful playing games that rely a lot on the left analogue stick, which action games often do. (I can't finish XV because of shitty thumb.) XII I can work around by using my index finger. Then again I could probably play that game with my toes :monster:

I left XIV out because I vowed ~twenty years ago to stay away from MMORPG's because I get addicted to shit :monster:

I voted FFX, FFXV, Dirge, and Last of Us.

And left off XIV because I'm not sure my shitty little laptop would run it very well, and I don't much feel like spending $30 for the console version of game I'm probably not going to continue to play (because subscriptions... bleh).

If the community playthrough is a good incentive for FF fans here to play XIV, then that gets all of my support. I understand it's not as accessible as some of the others, but it's a fantastic FF experience that I know many here are missing out on.

^This. FFXIV's story is really good and the character designers have really done a great job with with the main cast.

Doing FFXIV story mode is probably the most feasible as we can do it like other playthoughs in the past (you have X amount of time to get to X quest). Most of the MQ is done single player anyway and the parts that aren't still have people doing them for various reasons. Also, if those of us who already play FFXIV do it, then we'll probably have classes that can really reduce the wait times (tanks/healers) for everyone else.

As far as who's on goes... I'm in the US and other people are in Europe so someone will probably be on when other people are on.

I can heal :monster:

I have THE ITCH to do XIV. I'm probably going to start playing again regardless of there being a community playthrough, but that would make me love it even more.

I voted for VI, X, XIV, Tactics, and Xenosaga. I reeeeeeeeally don't want to play XII until the remastered version comes out, because I don't want to deal with the bullshit the first time I play it when there is a BETTER version on the way.

I gave my votes to X, X-2, and Last of Us. I have waited for a FFX playthrough since I came here and we still haven't done it. I wouldn't mind playing X-2 either because I quite like the game even though it can be a bit tacky at times. I also picked Last of Us because I got tired of the gameplay when I tried it the first time but I know I should get back to it.

I think the idea of a FFXIV playthrough sounds fun but at the moment I couldn't take part because my laptop is dying. That's why I picked only games that I can play on my PS3.

Okay you need to stop saying that, whoever(s) convinced you vanilla XII is bad obviously hated it but that doesn't mean it's a guarantee you won't like it :monster: It's a different setup but both have their strengths.

THIS NEEDED TO BE SAID

But the remastered version will be BETTER and less tedious in ways that I generally despise tedium. I never said XII is a bad game, just that I would rather play it when it plays better.

But it doesn't play better, just differently. Vanilla lets pretty much everyone do everything, while IZJS has limitations based on the jobs you pick. Vanilla lets you do crazy magic Reflect strats. IZJS forces you to not have everyone constantly use Attack. But they're both still the same battle system, based on Gambits.

As for tedious, most people find IZJS to be harder.

I like them both, but I think I PREFER IZJS just because there's more strategy involved with party comps and the like. Plus you don't have to teach everyone EVERY license :P

I voted for...

FFX: This is my favorite Final Fantasy, so this shouldn't be a surprise. I even started a FFX Let's Play a loooooong time ago, so I'd be more WILLING to actually put some effort into doing content for my youtubes with this one :P

Final Fantasy Tactics: This is the game that flip-flops with X as to which is my favorite FF title. For a very, very long time it was Tactics. This game is so fucking amazing and so, so, sooooo underrated because it's not a "mainstream" FF title. HNNNNNGH (ps cloud is recruitable in it js)

Chrono Cross: Well, Chrono Trigger's been done :P I forget when, but iirc Flint (?) made a remark about the community playthrough being a non-FF title every other year, so I feel like this would be a smashing choice. I'm not just biased because I've played this game about a dozen times and still find new shit in it, or because it has TONS of replayability (there's 45 playable party members ffs) and has probably the BEST battle system in an RPG (FFX is a close second). Or because if needed I could run the playthrough :P

XENOSAGA: Because everyone needs to play this. God this game is amazing I HOPE THIS GETS A REMASTER. If nothing else, if this game is not chosen you need to take your ass to youtube and watch the cutscene movie of this - or alternately, since I have the disc, I can STREAM IT for people to watch. This would easily go on my "10 RPGs you have to play before I break your hands" list. However, like Mass Effect, I kind of view this one as a "whole" instead of "one game", though I'm capable of being objective and saying that Episode 2, while GOOD, isn't as good of a game as Episodes 1 or 3. It's still a strong game on its own...just weak as a Xenosaga. Sort of like DMC2 being shit-tier compared to 1, 3, or 4 :oscar:

Mass Effect: This is my favorite game of all time. So. Y'know. I've got ~1/3 of a playthrough of ME2 on youtube as is, and need to go back and do the first one anyway. Soooo yeah I'm down for this. Even the first game, which (LET'S BE HONEST) isn't as good as the second, is still EXCELLENT. If you haven't played this, you need to.

The Witcher 2: Another great game, although some people might find this one too difficult. It's pretty punishing in the early stages, to be sure. But this has a fantastic storyline, AMAZING voice acting, and more choices than you can shake a stick at.

Dargon Age: See Mass Effect.

Negative votes: Other numbered FF titles, most especially 14. Final Fantasy 14 is a GREAT game, don't get me wrong - I've put months (years?) of real world time into playing this game and it's fun, nuanced, and just plain great. HOWEVER. The story takes aaaaaaaaaages to get off the ground to the point that you're going to be INTERESTED in it - no bullshit, I wasn't that interested in the story until I hit roughly patch 2.3 or 2.4 (and the game itself starts at 2.0 - you've been level 50 for a WHILE by 2.3). The story content then picks up considerably, and is MUCH MUCH MUCH better in the expansion, but I don't think it's fair to ask people to buy all that shit for a community playthrough, as opposed to things that are either free, cheap, already owned, or free-via-emulation like most of the other games listed. (for reference the witcher 2 is like $5 at this point)

I forget when, but iirc Flint (?) made a remark about the community playthrough being a non-FF title every other year, so I feel like this would be a smashing choice.

I think it was actually that we were aiming to have two community playthroughs a year. One starting in January and another in August or so, and then one would be FF, and one would be another game.

I was expecting VI, or even II to be doing better, honestly. And I'm really surprised how well Tactics is doing, haha.

I hope it wins. Gives me an excuse to dust off my ps1 emulator :P

or better yet TOTALLY LEGALLY download war of the lions for psp

although I'm mad about the changes to beowulf's storyline in that one and the inability to get the awesome gear outside of coop/pvp :/

Back when I was Community Manager and running two playthroughs a year (that only lasted for a year and a half – three playthroughs – before I stepped down), I said that at least one of them would be a Final Fantasy game, while the other one could be something else, but didn't have to be. That's probably what you're thinking of. :)

Edit: wow, double ninja'd.

I am so in the mood for FFXII. I've been holding off until the Zodiac Age, but I think it's reasonable to play it now, and then Zodiac Age---regardless of how soon it is to come out---just to appreciate the differences :D

I'm up for any FF game bar FFVI ('cause I've played that twice within 2016) and FFXV (as I've only started it last week). Might even be brave enough to step into a MMO like FFXIV.

Anything I haven't voted for I'd likely still play anyway if they win :)

If I am reading this right Tactics, X, X-2 and a XIV 2.0 story run are tied right now. and a 14 dungeon / raid run and Dragon Age are one vote away from being in that batch. Everybody vote yet folks? Only a few days left!
