...kind of. Also, this was announced in November. How the fuck did I miss it.

Here's the story.

It's called "Valkyria: Azure Revolution" and it appears to be a spin-off with slightly different combat. Now all they have to do is port and remaster 2 and 3 (and actually finally bring 3 to the west XD).

Yeah, their "strategic" decision to make the 2 and 3 for PSP, and then not bring the 3 to the West because "the PSP market is too small to cover the cost of localization" ...

Better than nothing I suppose. I really enjoyed the franchise and I was kind of sad to see it go.

idek, I'm such a slut for the original I could never bring myself to play the follow ups. Maybe if I was extremely bored and only interested in okay game play. But the story of the original game is so ingraved in my guts I'm rather sure this won't be to my interest.

The second game was good, but the difficulty curve was outright bipolar. Really liked the most of the changes to gameplay. The story, not as much. Too much angst ridden teen bullshit. I can ignore a lot if gameplay is good.

I completely agree. I personally even went to buy the 3 in import and try to play it in Japanese (which I don't understand at all), relying on whatever translation I could find to follow the story. In the end, I enjoyed it a lot, better than 2. However, the original was still better in my eyes.
Something I really appreciated of the original Valkyria Chronicles, beyond the gameplay and story, was how well-polished and well-finished it all was.

IMO you know when the art direction has done an awesome job when a game is able to age well, like that. On a completely different art style, I had a similar feeling the last time I replayed Mirror's Edge.

I'm with Fangu on never even having bothered to play the other two. I was too miffed that they wouldn't be continuing the series on a system that could handle the gorgeous graphics to bother.

It wasn't ever really the story that appealed to me. It was very anime and the symbolism heavy-handed, I found. But the presentation and gameplay were out of this world.

A "remastering" on the first game is coming to the PS4. Somewhat interesting, but given the stylized nature of the graphics I doubt it will really look any better.

I bought it at the time for PS3, and then re-bought it for Steam... but I'm a console guy at heart, so having for PS4 (trophies included) is just good news for me. I'm buying it thrice... Yep.

Jokes aside, if I had the PS3 version, that'd be an upgrade to think about.
Since I have Valkyria on steam though, I don't think having a bit more grass definition is gonna make me spring for the game again.

I've officially triple dipped on this game.

I got Valkyria Chronicles: Europa Edition for PS4 because it was only £12 on Amazon. The packaging is beautiful, there's a small and gorgeous artbook, a cardboard sleeve and a small poster and all the DLC AND IT'S ALL SO BEAUTIFUL.

Omg. I'm so excited to play this again (for a third time because I played through on PC too lol)

Same! Finally! I've been listening to the soundtrack at work to calm me down on shitty days, and this weekend has been crap, so I decided to get the thing on PS4 as well and go for the Plat. And:

all the DLC

This. THIS! SO MUCH CONTENT for what, twenty dollars. I discovered the "Professioanl Military Operations", had no idea what it was; apparently it's part of the DLC and I just never saw it before. (Apparently you need to not save this on your main save file because raisins, I'll do them on a different save later.) Also I never did the Hard skirmishes so definitely doing these nao. I'm just going to try for the "A on everything" for my first playthrough, that'll definitely be a challenge without some of the better weapons, but between Demolition Boost and Alex/ Vyse I think I'll be fine.

Also I'm grinding. GRINDING! Never did that before with this game. Grinding to beautiful music. Alicia and Defense Boost, gogogo. Randgrizer. Mmm. All the DCT. All the EXP. Nom.

I used to grind on that Skirmish (I think it's Bruhl? The one with the Windmill) using solo Alicia + Defence boost lol. It's one of those games it's really fun to max out on because the hard missions are still hard.

I never actually finished my PS4 playthrough, I think something else got released and I got distracted. Need to go back and plat it for sure, the one thing the PS3 version was missing was the trophies!

EDIT: I just looked at the date I posted having bought it and it was mid-September last year, which means FFXV released before I could finish it haha

Yeah and the DLC offers Expert skirmish too. I never did Hard because I never really played far on my New Game+.

So I just did the Barious Desert skirmish with Alicia + Defense Boost, it took me 3 or 4 CP, which is what, 2 minutes, and it was 30k+ EXP o_O

I'm going to try unlocking everyones personal abilities for this pt, I never did that before. I'm also trying to use different people, buuuut if there is Jann and Marina, Jann and Marina goes in my party. Nuf said. <3

Unlocking their potentials is brilliant, but it can become a little jarring when they all trigger at once XD. Try using the command power "awaken potential" after getting them all, it's nuts.

Haha yeah I have fond memories of potentials triggering like batshit xD

Hmm, Awaken Order is the Aged Gentleman, right? Apparently it's kind of random if he wants to teach you anything or not. That's a bit annoying, but, hey, JRPG's.

I'm currently experiencing with using Rosie and Demolition Boost to fuck up tanks. Let's see how this goes...
Edit: Okay that was just way too much fun. Takes her 2 shots to kill a light tank xD
Edit 2: hahaha Alicia can do the same, 2 shots in the butt and it's dead. lol.
Edit 3: The fuck, did you know Lancers can equip mortars? It's a separate branch in R&D, unlocked past chapter 10 somewhere. I had no idea. But people are saying they're pretty useless.
