I shall have to give the other things a listen. Cos when you mentioned you were gonna come up with 10 fave tracks I was struggling to think of what the hell that could be, and then I remembered Bowie and Radiohead and thought 'they better be on Ghosts list' and then they is and therefore I trust your judgement. :monster:

OT:

This has been in my head, I kind of dip in and out of the Manics stuff these days, this is from 2014. This track is full on Bruce Springsteen and I love it. It's on my driving/workout playlist.

Did kind of annoy me that Nicky Wire said it wasn't about Richey, or rather it was about his own feelings of leaving the band, and that the 'bridge' wasn't the Severn Bridge

Nicky Wire said:
People might have the idea that this song contains a lot of Richey references but it really isn’t about that, it’s about the Øresund Bridge that joins Sweden and Denmark. A long time ago when we were crossing that bridge I was flagging and thinking about leaving the band (the “fatal friend”). It’s about the idea of bridges allowing you an out of body experience as you leave and arrive in different places.

I mean, c'mon dude. Really now. Sure, there might be elements of you wanting to leave the band in there but it's fucking obvious it's about Richey. And that's ok y'know? But yeah, I dunno....death of the author and all that. I guess he doesn't want to be seen to be cashing in or making light or whatever. Maybe. *shrug*

I think it was a shit year for music. I struggled to find ten songs I really liked... just in case you listen to one of the songs and go "well, that was mediocre" :monster:

I don't, from my side of the fence there were some pretty awesome releases :monster:. new Moonsorrow is finally decent again, new Meshuggah too, er. yes.

Like every year, 2016 was another great year for discovering old music. :monster:

I added albums by Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Michael Jackson, Prince and The Smiths, amongst others, to my collection. My newest purchase was from 2013 (Awayland by Villagers). Sometimes I worry that I don't listen to enough new music, but there's still so much amazing old stuff to discover so I'm not going to run out any time soon. :)

^I find it hard to be enthusiastic about new music/artists. I don't seek shit out actively. If I hear a song on the tv or a film or I dunno, at a friends house - if it resonates with me then I'll look up the artist and check out some of their other stuff.

Or sometimes, I might read an article on an artist I like and they might mention another artist - but 99% of the time thats usually an older artist/band.

But I don't go out of my way to discover new music. Or even 'new to me' music.

I really should. Like I don't think I've even listened to Bowies 'Low' in full. Which is fucking stupid of me because thats meant to be one of his best albums.

I'm a mush head really. I don't like stuff having to grow on me. Like I usually know by the end of a song whether or not I want to listen to that again. And sometimes I'll listen to something I like 9000 times and then be 'right sucked all the juice out of that now. Do not want again'

Really liking this song from Lindsey's new album. Unfortunately over half the songs have vocalists which kind of drowns her violin out, but ah well, at least there's a few. <3

Songs I've been hooked on for a long while now. :closedmonster: First one is catchy and dancey.

Second one has me hooked for other reasons. Dammit :wacky:

Shall be updating this post throughout the evening, depending how much of the 50 albums I mentioned in the other thread I can get through.

46. I liked a few songs on Savages' Adore Life album, especially the kind of atmosphere in the music. Bit too heavy / noisy for me otherwise.
45. Junior Boy's Big Black Coat album has some nice songs on it too, but I think I like C'Mon Baby the best. I could imagine listening to this album traveling home in my car at night or in the early morning.
41. Mark Pritchard's Beautiful People album. I'm not sure if I ended up picking one of the songs as my top 10 songs for this year, but it surely came number in my top 11, if not :P.
40. Cass McCombs' Mangy Love. Nothing outstanding, but listenable.
36. Jim James - Eternally Even. Found myself listening to most songs on this album, so must be tolerable. Good background music.
33. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's EARS album. Nice meditative music.
31. Iggy Pop's Post Pop Depression. Listenable, nice background music. The sound is so familiar, but I can't quite place it. He has such a haunting deep voice, combined with a rock n' roll backing.

To be continued :P.

I only discovered Rush properly today. I knew Tom Sawyer and that though. I likes it. I likes it a lot.

Looks like I'm going back in time, going to unearth buried (to me) treasures. Cos going forward, there is hardly anything.

Simple Minds before they got all 'stadium rock' (which I love too)

If 8.00 onwards doesn't make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up you may need to check your pulse.

Also, TIL that 'Geinoh Yamashirogumi' isn't an individual composer, it's a collective of hundreds:

Which is a fairly awesome idea. It should happen more often.

I don't listen to country nearly as much as pop, rock, and dance/electronic music, but this is one catchy tune, I just love it. :D
