this has to be one of the most pretentious band names ever but this isn't bad. Jochim will hate it though

Fuck. This album is impossibly good and this song is possibly the album's apex.

Two excellent choices. Throw Close to the Edge, Thick as a Brick and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway on there and I feel you'd have a pretty solid prog top 5. I feel like there should be something by Zappa in there as well though, and I'm not sure which album (maybe Läther or Hot Rats or the one you're listening to) or what to remove :/

actually that's a good topic for a thread, prog top 5/top 10.

Van der Graaf Generator - [Godbluff #01] The Undercover Man [7:32]

Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
King Crimson - Red
Magma - Theusz Hamtaahk Trilogie au Trianon
Pink Floyd - Animals
Rush - Hemispheres
Univers Zéro - Hérésie
Van der Graaf Generator - Godbluff
Yes - Close to the Edge
Frank Zappa - Läther

seems like a decent top 10, though there's some stuff I feel deserves honourable mentions like Änglagård and Marillion

could probably easily make another top 10 for progressive metal

Well if I would include Zappa - that wouldn't be fair. Ofcourse Zappa is as prog as it gets - but also undefinable in a genre - in fact plenty of his music isn't even rock.
Exellent list, I would add some Caravan, Camel, Gentle Giant, PFM, Soft machine.... aaargh it would take me some hours to make up a list and it would be quite a big list, I'm afraid. I already have problems making up my top 2013 albums list.

King Diamond - Omens

Kayo Dot is my album of the year but I have a really difficult time sorting anything out beyond that. This has been a pretty strong year. I've also not been very good about keeping up with new releases for the last few months. I haven't even listened to Carcass yet :/

Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - [Io sono nato libero #01] Canto nomade per un prigionero politico [15:47]

I need to listen to a shitload of 2013 releases too, and I haven't heard the new Carcass yet either, but it's on my way now. My top 10 ist right now would probably look something like this:

1. Gorguts - Colored Sands
2. Atlantean Kodex - The White Goddess
3. Procession - To Reap heavens Apart
4. Cultes Des Ghoules - Henbane
5. Tribulation - The Formulas of Death
6. Defeated Sanity - Passages Into Deformity
7. Grave Miasma - Odori Sepulcrorum
8. Jex Thoth - Blood Moon Rise
9. Aosoth - IV - An Arrow In Heart
10. In Solitude - Sister

In Solitude - Pallid Hands

Znowhite - War Machine

Production is shitty but the riffing is deadly and the female vocals are nasty. Only for die hard Thrash Metal fans though.

Gorguts is a great choice; it'd probably be in my top three.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

It's not enough that this song has feels on its own, but my dad taught me this song when I was a kid so it's got a bit of added sentimental value.
