Old school Disney films.

Fucking Lion King > you.

Sleeping Beauty, Aristocats, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast...the list goes on. Whatever happened to all the really awesome animated movies of olde? Nowadays we have retarded CG stuff that's no good (the only CG movie I've wanted to see of late is Wall-E, srsly). Companies sink millions of dollars into stuff like that and turn out substandard product, even with all the bells and whistles.

I miss the days of basic movie: simple pro-vs.-antagonist plot, decent/predictable romance B plot, and singing. Other than getting killed due to shitty sequelization, these were some of the best movies of their time in a lot of ways. Golden Age of Disney ftw.

Totally agree with everything, except for "simple pro-vs.-antagonist plot".

Have you ever seen Studio Ghibli films?

I do agree that Disney films as a whole aren't up to the same calibur they were back when animation was 2D animation, but I think several of the 3D pixar films they made are pretty damn epic and will become classics as well.

It's just funny...I'm sure children of this era...when they're our age, will say the same thing about films like Wall-E, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. Those films will become their epic classics, and will be talked about with the same nostalgic love, we're talking about the past Disney films now.

It really does boil down to subjectivity and nostalgia sometimes.

As mush as I love Ice Age...

I'd never want Ghibli to do 3D movies. There's a certain magic in a hand-drawn anime.

Though Good 3D > Bad HD. Always.

Obviously Omega is reminicing about a pretty much dead type of film.

The old Disney films were musical operas with expertly crafted set pieces revolving around song, with masterfully hand drawn artwork that set it apart from most everything else, and you just don't get that anymore.

It's not about nostalgia at all, and passing it off as such is pretty damn disingenuous.

Never did he say that Disney films were better than everything else or did he say all current animated films blew, you guys missed the point entirely. It's pretty obvious that the only good 3d films these days are Pixar ones, which he already pointed out by mentioning Wall-E.

Old school disney films were just an entirely different type of animated film.

^ that, really.

It's like the old saying - 'they just don't make 'em like they used to'.

It's just nice to look back and see that everything didn't have the be the most complicated shit ever with ZOMG WHAT A TWIST endings. The old Disney movies were fairly predictable and usually followed the same general plotlines, and yet you can't deny that they're absolutely magical in their ability to captivate people.

The Lion King is the 27th highest grossing film of all time, and the highest grossing animated film of all time. Think about it.

Well, hopefully the Princess and the Frog will end up being cool like the old school stuff.

To be quite honest the Princess and the Frog kind of disappointed me when they changed Tiana's (I think that's her name?) unique green dress to a very... generic princess-y one. It kind of... made me less excited to see it (shallow I know BUT THE DRESS IS IMPORTANT mmmkay :( ). Either way I'm going to see it opening day, just to give my money's vote of making 2d animation a norm once again :monster:

Also, this weekend I bought Snow White and Sleeping Beauty on Blu-Ray, and the remastered animation looks amazing without looking tacky. Hoping Princess and the Frog will capture the same essence.

Speaking of Disney 3D - I really wish they didn't make the upcoming Rapunzel movie 3D. From what I've seen, the 2D concept art looks absolutely beautiful (on par with the classics, I'd say) but the CG renders just doesn't do it justice. I dunno, it seems like such a waste D:

I miss the old animated movies too. I don't like watching new animated movies where they use CGI or 3D graphics. Its really annoying and so far, none of these movies have been good. Like Thumbelina, Lion King, Hercules, Aladdin...I wish Disney would go back to the old stuff already.

Disney angers me :@

Yeah, I definitely agree. Lion King is awesome. Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin are other favorites of mine from that time period.

I think media across the board - tv, movies, and video games - are all suffering from the same thing. It's all sparkle and showy, but little substance. Maybe time will change opinions, but that remains to be seen.

A lot of people think the poor economy has a lot to do with it, that companies aren't willing to take risks, and therefore the market is saturated with sequels, remakes, and re-releases.

Thumbelina is actually a Don Bluth film I believe produced by 20th century films. The rest are Disney. /donbluthfan

Also, Hercules had CGI graphics, that's what the whole Hydra fight was.

But I do like oldskoo graphics that were hand-drawn and you could tell when something was going to happen with an item in the screen because its color was slightly different. Ah, those were the days...

Can't they just keep the movie just... closer to this ;_;

On a similar note, the new Astro Boy movie looks terrible.

Actually the entire fight wasn't CG, just had bits of 3d intersected when the creature was being overly active.

I remember in the extra for Roger Rabbit, how it was hard to find a animator to draw all the toon bits because it would be "impossible" to draw them "realisticly", and eventually they found someone willing to do it. They asked them why the others said that, and they said it was because they were lazy. They didnt want to take the time to fully flesh out each frame and animated more frames than usualy to look "real-life" smooth rather than cartoon smooth.

I dunno why I brought that up. This topic just reminded me of it.

That Rapunzel looks attractive, and not repulsive like some of the other 'princesses'. Good show
What's wrong with Belle and the other princesses? >=[ Rapunzel looks like she's ten in the only pic we have of her.

But she did marry a prince. And is typically included in Disney's lineup of princesses.

Hell, Cinderella was her family's buttbitch but she's a princess cause she married a prince. I think the only 'official' princesses would be Snow White (dad was king), Jasmine (same thing), and Sleeping Beauty(again, father was royalty).
