And Mako, if I showed Halo's opening movie to my mom, she wouldn't think that's the character's name (which it essentially is), she'd just think its his rank. And he looks the same as everyone else, so if some showed a picture to her she'd know it was from Halo but not what his name is.

The "Master Chief" is his rank, but it can also double as a name, much the same way someone might call a sergeant "sarge". Plus he can't look very much like everyone else - no one else in the campaign wears that armor or that helmet...

This is supposed to be a discussion about who's more recognizable. Croft or the Chief.

Halo is a worldwide phenomenon and has millions of fans all over the goddamn world. Croft really doesn't have that. Even her movies didn't make her anymore popular, or widely known.

Halo has been in the news several times, been given dozens of awards by journalists all over the world, I just can't see how Croft could be more famous when people who've never played the games, or been involved in the fiction of Halo at all know about it and know it's a shooting game.

I just gotta say this.
The Mortal Kombat movie was awesome. It had Lambert as the God of Thunder and Lightning, the dude who played Chris Farley's brother in Beverly Hills Ninja as Liu and really, considering how simple MK's plot was at this point, the movie actually improved upon it.

And it has one of the greatest themes ever.

Really the only thing missing was a lot of blood and guts but I did't really care about that.

Even my 'rents know who Lara Croft is and the closest they get to a computer is Ebay. Lara Croft is an established gaming icon, love her or hate her it's true, she's been around so long that nowadays they should be designing her with grey hair and a zimmer frame.

The Master Cheif often referd to as stated above (that Halo guy) is still a new face in comparison. After another Decade if Halo is still running strong then this may differ, I guess the film could sway things aswell, on that note when is the bloody thing out anyway?

Chief is an established gaming Icon known all over the world, by news organizations and journalists as well. MUCH more popular at that. I still have yet to see anyone refer to him as "that Halo guy" like people keep saying though *shrugs*.
