Wutai Reactor?

So apparently, (among other things and factors I'm sure), the Wutai War was started over disputes to build a reactor there. Of course we all know who won, but there never was a Wutai Reactor built.

Normally I'd just chalk it up to "Oh it's probably one of those unseen things. I mean for example do you really think Wutai has only one city!?", but Square has been really concise about naming and accounting for every reactor in the FF7 world, and all of the reactors we see in the game are all there is, nope, no Wutai Reactor.

So why did Shinra scrap their plans even after they won the war?

Probably expenditure of resources in a prolonged conflict.

Or at least that would be a smart reason for it.

I figured that as well, before the war started, they probably didn't think it would be that big of a deal. Eight years, lots of fighting and money spent, and probably lots of casualties later, they figured it would be more trouble than it's worth; why build a reactor in a former Empire where they'd just blow it up every five seconds?

The reactor might have still been in its planning stages.
After the war was won, they had their hands full with Avalanche AND Genesis and his fellow band of cosplayers clones.

One place they could've used it was the old Fort Tamblin. But it could very well have been destroyed by either Wutai soldiers, AVALANCE or a joint effort of the two groups.

I mean ShinRa had it's hands full dealing with everything at once, so perhaps they just couldn't afford to defend a reactor in enemy territory.

Hasn't Shinra done that before, though? Abandoned plans after a while? Anyone remember why mako extraction was cancelled at Modeoheim and Banora?

... Even though I agree - that's nothing compared to all the lives probably lost in the Wutai war...

Perhaps Shinra changed plans regarding Wutai when it came to discussing the terms of victory? Perhaps Shinra wished to humiliate Wutai by making it 'simply' a 'tourist attraction'? That's my thinking, anyhow...

That could be. Course Shinra may have also wanted to "insist" on having a mako reactor in (or near) Wutai, and despite the losses on both sides during the war, Shinra went ahead and built the reactor as a way of saying to Godo "not only did you FAIL to defend Wutai, but you also FAILED to succeed in preventing us from building a reactor."

Just my two cents really.

I figured it would be more trouble than its worth. I mean, after all, even if they DID built a reactor and somehow prevented it from being sabotaged/shot at/etc by Wutai, they can't FORCE them to use it.

Or, like, the space program :P They really are a pretty lousy company, how they got so rich I have no idea.

But I imagine you're right MOG, if they built a reactor in Wutai, and somehow kept it guarded enough so that it wasn't bombed, Wutai...ns would never pay the energy bills anyway.

Obviously the Wutai War kicked off because Shinra wanted to build a Reactor there. However, Special Episode of Legend in Before Crisis reveals that there was a ceasefire for part of that time while negotiations were held. It doesn't really go into any depth, but I think the resistance that Shinra found was so strong that they hit a stalemate in their quest for total world domination. remember that at this point, Wutai was still a strong Empire - one of the last to fall against Shinra. The Legend episode reveals some secret/undercover missions continued while negotiations went on.

Anyway, point is that with the resistance shown, it may not have been wise to build a Reactor there. President Shinra wanted total power, so much so that he may have been willing to sacrifice having a Reactor in Wutai to have Godo lay down his arms. I reckon that the Wusheng were so determined to keep their land and traditions that Godo negotiated the surrender of all Wutai's weapons and Materia in return for Shinra to stay out of their land (thus having Yuffie hate him). Shinra don't strike me as the type to keep to their word, but it may explain how the War came to an end (something that is never fully explained) and why things were as they were by the time of FF7

As I said before, I don't have much time for that just now. The transcript I have is from a Japanese that has been put through an online translator. It takes a great deal of interpretation trying to work out what's actually going on. Since you asked nicely, you have a crack at reading it yourself.View attachment 27. Script trans.doc Enjoy. For anyone else who reads it and wants to feedback, please leave your thoughts here http://thelifestream.net/forums/showthread.php?t=194

I seriously have to wonder why the Wutai War is never touched on. It's one of 2 time periods that are important to the Compilation, but have almost no in-depth information, the other one being Jenova's arrival.

Agreed, I would love to see what Sephiroth actually done in that war.

And Genesis. Any 1st Class SOLDIER, really.

I imagine it as being something like the Ishbal Rebellion in FMA. Someone snaps, & an entire city block explodes.

Does anyone remember Square-Enix's April Fools joke a couple of years back when they announced they would be releasing another mobile game called Era Clash where you played as a SOLDIER during the Wutai War and got to fight alongside Sephiroth and others? That sounded absolutely brilliant, but alas it was all just a dirty big hoax. The story of Sephiroth and his rise to legend status would be incredible to hear and I reckon SE must have that one being tossed about somewhere as an idea for a new game. I'd love to have Sephiroth as a main character and just let all hell loose. On top of the SOLDIERs, there is a chance to bring in Lost Force and Deepground who had the task of rescuing injured SOLDIERs for a more in-depth look at their world, the Wusheng and their military ways and traditions, and even a history for Cid who was a pilot during the War. What about SOLDIER before Sephiroth came to prominence and the 13 Units that existed? Who ran SOLDIER before Lazard? What was the Shinra hierarchy like while HQ was being built? What about the Kisaragi family or the origins of the Crescent Unit and Five Saints? They have a 1000 different avenues they could take with this. Unfortunately, I doubt they ever will. But there are some pretty good ideas for fanfics that could be used.

Sephiroth, Genesis, Angeal, Legend(from the Turks), the Ragnarok Unit... They all participated in the war.

God, I would love to play a game that happens during the Wutai War.

Nah. The Ishbal Rebellion wasn't a war, it was a massacre. However, it is stated along the Compilation that Wutai was a very powerful nation at the time, able to fight on equal grounds with Shinra.

Yeah it would be pretty amazing. Especially since we know that the War was not simply fought on Wutai's soil (as can be seen in Special Episode of Tseng). As I mentioned earlier, there were some top secret missions going on during a ceasefire as well as what you can only imagine would have been some epic battles involving S, G and A. And given that Cloud finds the Murasame in Wutai, perhaps there could be a story about the origin of the Masamune. The possibilities are limitless

Not to mention based on complete bullshit.

At least there was benefit to be had from the Wutai war.

Wow. I knew the Wutai War would be a good idea, but I didn't think it'd be that good of an idea.

Heh. I'm also Neo Bahamut on an RPG forum (that has like 3 members right now), & I saw the possibility, so I made one called "The Great Wutai War."

It kinda got bastardized when people weren't really going the direction I wanted to, & I had to pull a plot out of my ass. Now it's got a whole group of TL;DR topics & a fucking sequal, where I'm desperately trying to close off my aforementioned asspull plot.

Why do I make this connection?

Dego, the owner of the forum, was quoted as saying, "My forum just seems like a place for us to collectively write odd fan fics."
